General Information :
The Certificate Course in Russian is a course of ONE year duration with the examination conducted at the end of every academic year. Teaching hours: 180
Eligibility:
The candidates who have passed H.S.C. (12thStd.) or an equivalent examination OR who have completed a Three-year Diploma Course after 10th Std. are eligible for admission to the Certificate Course in Russian.
Aims & Objectives :
1. The Course is aimed at developing the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in the learners.
2. Exposing the learners to simple aspects of life and culture of the Russian people.

Examination :
The evaluation of Certificate Course in Russian shall consist of two components:
A) Internal Assesment. B) Final Examination.
The weightage of A & B as above shall be 20:80. A/ Internal Assessment: It shall be based on –
TWO Unit Tests of 10 Marks each.
B/ The final Examination at the Certificate Course in Russian will consist of two components: a) one WRITTEN paper of three hours duration with 80 marks and, one ORAL examination of 50 marks. b) Internal Assessment – 20. Total marks – 150.
The structure of the written examination paper shall have the following components.

General Information:
The Diploma Course in Russian is a Course of one Academic year duration after the completion of the Certificate Course in Russian. Teaching hours: 200.
Eligibility:
The candidates who have passed the Certificate Course in Russian
Language of this or any other university recognised as equivalent thereof, shall be eligible for the admission to the said course. Aims & Objectives:
1. Reinforcing, further strengthening and developing the language skills, already mentioned in the Certificate Course Syllabus.
2. Introduction to some well-known Russian/Soviet writers/poets and their literary works through abridged texts: stories, poems including general information on the life and works of the said writers.

1. General Information:
The Higher Diploma Course in Russian is a Course of one academic year duration after completion of the Diploma Course in Russian.Teaching hours: 200
2. Eligibility:
The candidates who have passed the Diploma Course in Russian
Language of this or any other university recognized as equivalent thereof, shall be eligible for admission to the said course.
3. Aims & Objectives:
1. Consolidating, strengthening and further developing the language skills, already learned in the Certificate and Diploma Courses.
2. Developing the ability to translate simple Russian texts from and into the language and initiating the leaner to use the dictionary in his /her work.
3. Introducing the learner to Russian and Soviet literature. 4. Introducing the learner to specific aspects of the History and
Geography of Russia.

The Certificate Course in German is a course of ONE year duration
with the examination conducted at the end of every academic year.

Eligibility:

Aims and objectives :
This course is conceptualized on the principals of ALTE (Association of
Language Testes in Europe) and of the “Can do System”, to develop
speaking, reading and writing skills in this foreign language to the extent
that the students can understand basic instructions, can complete forms
and write short notes and can take part in conversations on day to day
matters.
At the end of the course the students will have acquired the
knowledge of “ Basic Language Use “ and will possess basic functional
ability to communicate and exchange information in a simple way.

Note : The candidate, who has filled the examination form, but either did not
appear for the said examination OR failed in any paper/ papers, will have to re-
appear for all papers of that course in the next immediately following
examination only. Otherwise, he/ she will have to seek fresh admission.
In case of re-appearing at the papers, the previous year’s Internal Assessment
marks will be valid for the next one year only.

The Diploma Course in German is a course of ONE year duration with the

Eligibility :
The candidates who have passed Certificate Course in German or an
equivalent examination are eligible for admission to the Diploma Course in
German.
Aims and Objectives:
To enhance listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to the extent that
the students can understand instructions, can fill up forms and write a
letter or a mail (informal) and can take part in conversation on day to day
matters.

The evaluation of Diploma Course in German shall consist of
two components :
A) Internal Assessment.

A) Internal Assesment : It shall be based on two classroom assignments ,
which are to be carried out during the course and submission of
completed workbook.
B) The final Examination at the Diploma Course will consist of:
1. Paper – 1 : 80 marks.
2. Paper – 2 : 80 marks.
3. Oral Examination of 50 marks.
4. Internal Assessment 20 + 20 Marks
Written Examination
Paper – 1: comprises of translation (from German into English), writing
dialogue, comprehension and vocabulary.
Paper – 2: comprises of Translation (from English into German), general
questions and questions regarding general knowledge about Germany,
writing a letter or a mail and grammar.
Oral Exam carries 50 marks and is conducted among a pair of candidates.

The Diploma Course in Japanese is a course of ONE year duration with the
examination conducted at the end of the academic year. Teaching hours
200.
Eligibility:
The candidates who have passed Certificate Course in Japanese or an
equivalent examination are eligible for admission to the Diploma Course in
Japanese.
Aims & Objectives: Reinforcing, further strengthening & developing the language skills,
already mentioned in the Cert. course syllabus.
• Basic sentence patterns
• Enlarging of basic vocabularies
• Additional elementary 350 kanji
• Introduction to Japanese society & its culture
• Use of word processor
• Calligraphy
Textbooks prescribed : 1. The teaching shall be based on –
• A prescribed text-book - NIHONJO SHOHO – II
& other reading material.
• Reference and supplementary text-book and drills.
Examination :
The final Examination at the Diploma Course in Japanese will consist
of -
1. Japanese Language Paper – 1 of 3 hours & 100 marks.
2. Japanese Language Paper – 2 of 3 hours & 100 marks.
3. Oral Examination of 50 marks.
Total Marks – 250.
Paper – 1 will consist of Questions on prescribed ‘informative prose’,
kanji scripts (writing & reading), unseen translation from Japanese & vice-
versa.

14. SCHEME OF EXAMINATION :-
• The examination shall be conducted at the end of each Semester.
• The Theory paper shall carry 100 marks.
• The evaluation of the performance of the students in theory papers shall be on the
basis of
A) Internal Assessment based on Assignments/Seminars/Orals/Tutorials done
during the semester, and
B) Semester Examination
The relative weight of (A) and (B) will be 20:80.
The evaluation of the Course Work will be based on a maximum of 400
marks.
• Question Paper will be set in the view of the / in accordance with the entire
Syllabus and preferably covering each unit of syllabi.
15. STANDARD OF PASSING:-
To pass the M.A. Examination in Russian a candidate has to obtain at least 35%
marks in written and oral examinations separately, but 40% in aggregate, and also a
minimum of 40% in the internal assessment.
1st Class with distinction: 75% or more in the aggregate of the written and
oral examinations.
1st Class : 60% or more but less than 75% in the aggregate of
the written and oral examinations.
