Student Adventurefounded in 2000, off ers international students from Moldova, Poland and Ukraine the opportunity to get a temporary job in the US. At the same time we help US companies fi ll their entry level jobs. Over 3000 students and almost 800 US businesess have benefi ted from the 11 year experience of the company.

The international spirit, great work eth-ics and superior English language skills of our European staff have already ben-efi ted hundreds of US employers from small family run motels to Fortune 500 casino resorts.

Student Adventure currently employs around 20 people in our offi ces in Warsaw, Chisinau and Kiev. We are also registered in the United States as Student Adventure, Inc. Our company collaborates with several US sponsor-ing organization, notably with Cultural Homestay International who act as the legal sponsor for our J-1 visa program Work and Travel.

The J-1 visa summer Work &Travel program Participants are available for work between May and September for a period not exceeding 4 months.

All participants are university students.

Visa sponsorship is provided by an US partner organization, therefore, the only paper work needed is a employee registration form (the same one you would issue for any US employee).

Participants receive full health insurance and round trip air-travel from Student Adventure.

The J-1 visa summer Work & Travel FAQWhy do students want to come to the US?

The J-1 visa program creates a unique opportunity for international students to come and visit the United States during their summer holydais. Not only is the J-1 visa relatively easy to obtain for such participants (provided they meet all the criteria stipulated by the Department of State) but it also permits legal employment in the United States for a period of up to 4 months. This makes it possible for the students to recouperate the cost of their visa, insurance and fl ight into the US and also save some cash to take back home. After they have completed their work assignment, they are free to travel the United States for another month.

What jobs would the participants be willing to work? What rate should I pay them?

The students perform a wide range of entry level jobs with various hotel/casino resorts and theme parks, but also with grocery stores, restaurants and even moving compa-nies. Popular positions include: theme park ride attendants, guest room attendants, cleaners, stewards, food and beverages servers, bussers, card dealers, front desk as-sociates, valet attendants, offi ce/HR/computer clerks and more. In relation to pay rate, we recommend you to pay the students the same rate as you would pay any employee for that specifi c position. The main benefi t for employers is increased productivity that stems from the level of motivation the students have.

What about their English? What qualifi -cations do they have?

All our participants are university stu-dents who study English as a part of their course. Student Adventure screens all participants for their language skills and makes sure they correspond with the jobs for which they apply. You will fi nd that the majority of the students speak very good and fl uent English. Moreover, the US embassy will only grant visas to candidates whose English is at a conver-sational level at minimum.

Can I interview the participants before I hire them?

Many of our employers trust Student Adventure to select the participants for them. However, we will be more than happy to arrange interviews sessions with our candidates. Often, a recruit-ment trip to Europe is the best way to do that. In such a case Student Adventure will arrange both the venue and take care of all travel arrangements. Based on the number of people needed and other

criteria we may cover part or all of the cost of such a trip. Web-cam interviews conducted from your offi ce with appli-cants gathered at one of our European sites represent an alternative solution.

Who is responsible for the Work & Travel participants while they are here?

Since they are sponsored for their visas by the US sponsoring organization there is no real responsibility on your behalf. The sponsor will deal with any emer-gency situations such as hospitalization, need for legal assistance, etc.

What if it doesn’t work out and we are having issues with one of the students?

If you having any issues with any of the participants, we would ask you to con-tact either our on-site representative or, if he/she is not available, contact our offi ce. We will then discuss the situation with you to fi nd a solution. We might try to fi nd another employment for the individual in question. As last resort, we would contact the sponsoring organiza-tion to determine if such students should have their visa canceled and return home. If that is the case, there will be no

further obligations to you.

We can’t privide housing here. Where will the students live?

Often our employers have housing units for their staff . However, some companies don’t have such facilities. They often op-erate in tourist areas where housing is scarce and/or expensive. In such a case we would typically work out an arrange-ment with a local motel to give our stu-dent preferential rates based on several people sharing the room. Typically, the participants would stay in such housing for a week or two before they fi nd some-thing more permanent themselves, hav-ing settled down and made links with local people. Some participants would opt to stay in such housing through out the duration of their stay.

The J-1 visa summer Work & Travel FAQ Is there a cost to me?

No, under this program we do not charge anything to participating employers.

When and for how long can I employ international staff ?

Exchange students arrive starting with May 21st and can legally work up to the end of September. The maximum duration of their work is 4 months.

Will they have a Social Security Number?

Most of our participants will be traveling to the United States for the fi rst time and will need to visit the Social Security Offi ce prior to engaging in employment with your company. Most of our employers allow the students to start working as soon as they have shown proof of applying for the Social Security Number.

Will they be paying taxes, social security, workers comp?

The students should have their taxes withdrawn like all other US citizens. However, due to the temporary nature of their stay, they do not have to pay social security nor are they entitled to workers comp. However, we encourage you to check with your legal department before putting any of our participants on you pay-roll.

OK, so how does your organization support this program fi nancially?

Student Adventure provides our participants with the job placement, the visa paper work, round-trip air-ticket to the US, health insurance and pre-departure orientation. We charge the students a fee for all these services to cover our costs.

How will the people I employ get to my location?

When hiring people through Student Adventure, please communicate with them di-rectly and fi nd out about their transportation to the job site.

Are the participants English-speaking?

Of course! All the participants can speak English with their command ranging from basic level to fl uency. Before you hire someone, you will receive an assess-ment of his or her English language level.

Can an exchange student have more than one job?

Legally, the J1 visa allows the partici-pants to be employed at more than one job. Still, we emphasize that a partici-pant’s primary commitment should be to their initial employer as arranged by Student Adventure.

Am I required to provide housing?

Though we ask the employers to at least help the participants in arranging aff ord-able accommodation with easy reach to the job location, it is not an obligation for an employer to provide housing. .

Will my international employees be cov-ered by health insurance?

Under the Work and Travel USA program, all applicants must have health insur-ance covered at their own expense.
