DESCRIPTION This short course centers on forest regeneration and is designed to instruct the attendees in site preparation, artificial regeneration, natural regeneration, and wildlife responses to regeneration efforts.

WHERE Madison County Extension Office 152 Watford Parkway Canton, MS 39046

WHEN Thursday June 29 and Friday June 30, 2017 COST Registration is $35 per person, $50 per couple. The fee covers reference materials and a meal. Make your check payable to the Madison County Forestry Association. The registration deadline is June 15, 2017. Space is limited so register early!

Thursday (June 29) 8:15 – 8:40 am: Registration 8:40 – 8:45 am: SFI (Brady Self – MSU-E) 8:45 – 9:30 am: Mechanical and chemical site preparation for bottomland hardwood establishment (Brady Self – MSU-E) 9:30-10:15 am: Natural regeneration of hardwoods (Randy Rousseau – MSU-E) 10:15 -10:30 am: Break 10:30 -11:15 am: Artificial regeneration of hardwoods (Brady Self – MSU-E) 11:15 am -noon: Lunch Noon-12:30 pm: Travel to field sites 12:30-5:00 pm: Field tour

Friday (June 30) 8:30-9:15 am: Mixed species considerations for hardwood plantings (Randy Rousseau – MSU-E) 9:15-10:00 am: Wildlife considerations in hardwood plantings (Adam Rohnke – MSU-E) 10:00-10:15 am: Break 10:15-11:30 am: CRP stand manipulation for regeneration exercise (Randy Rousseau + Brady Self – MSU-E) 11:30 am-noon: Wrap up and evaluation noon: Adjourn
