Tree Mortality : Assessment and Mitigation J.D.S. Negi | P.S. Chauhan

The present book deals with the forest heath in general and tree mortality in particular. It is a well–known fact that death of the trees is inevitable but when tree mortality interferes with poor health and productivity of the forest, then it certainly becomes a serious concern. Since the year 1990 each and every forest of the country was observed thoroughly and examined very closely for its health in general and productive capacity to cope with the climate change and carbon mitigation in particular. The book on “Forestry Technologies – A Complete Value Chain Approach” has been desig-ned to cater to the needs of the stakeholders by judiciously incorporating the recent techno-logies and research outputs available in various sectors of institutions. The book has four major themes viz., basic and strategic technology, production technology, processing and value addition technology and consumption technology. The production technology incorp-orated 16 chapters that includes all the recent developments such as: mini clonal techno-logy, high yielding short rotation variety, land development and precision silvicultural technology, and multifunctional agroforestry. Processing and value addition technology incorporated 11 chapters and the consumption technology incorporated five chapters which include the recent developments in processing, value addition and the associated supply chain process. In a holistic perspective, the current book will serve as a readymade refe-rence material to the practicing foresters, scientific professionals, wood based industries, policy makers, forestry students, financial and other academic and research institutions.

Forestry Technologies A Complete Value Chain Approach

Compensatory AfforestationG. Singh | D.K. Mishra

This work encompasses an evaluation of randomly selected 156 assets and 86 plantation sites throughout Rajasthan conducted during November 2016 to June 2017. It is based on the works carried by the State Forest Department (SFD), Rajasthan at 1079 sites under Compensatory Afforestation and Management Authority (CAMPA) and includes afforestation and refforestation under non-forest lands, degraded forest lands and Assisted Natural Regeneration Models, and asset developments. These data have been compiled into 6 chapters and provides valuable informations like adaptation among different species towards climatic and edaphic factors prevailing in the region based on survival, and height and collar diameter/girth growth of 57 plus tree species planted and 26 plus tree and shrub species were sown by seeds in different agroclimatic conditions of Rajasthan. It also discusses about the soil and water conservation devices used, protection measures and people participations adopted and their impacts on overall improvements in green cover and diversity of the treated areas. By emphasising on the concept of plus trees and shrubs for seed collection and their use

Nursery and Plantation Practices in ForestryVinod Kumar

It is a valuable addition to the stock of books on Forestry. The author has tried to highlight the subject matter related to forestry plantation. Detailed description of forest nursery, nat-ural regeneration, propagation, artificial regeneration and choice of species for plantation has improved the quality of the book. Chapters on protection of plantations, afforestation of wastelands, maintenance and improvement of plantation site are included to give up-to-date information on forestry. Additional information on forest soil characteristics, bio-fertilizers, land capability classification, wind and water erosion in relation to forestry is praise-worthy. A separate chapter on tree improvement - Where seed production areas, selection of forest trees, productive areas and buffer areas, seed orchards, and breeding strategy are the main subjects - seems to be quite interesting. Students of graduate and post-graduate level can consult the book for better knowledge.

This book is designed to present introductory information on tribes especially on characteristics, family, distribution, dialect, demography, economy, kinship, marriage, dormitory, religion, culture, magic, role in forest development, symbiotic relationship, anthropological aspects of tribe and the tribal development through various plans, schemes and programmes. Presently, there is no text book available that comprehensively covers the syllabus prescribed for Forest Tribology and Anthropology course in the Forestry degree programme. Authors have attempted to fill this gap by collecting and compiling all the necessary information on tribals of India at one place in the form of textbook. The entire material is presented in simple language for easy understanding and supported with latest data and research findings. This book is expected to serve as an excellent text book for undergraduates and post graduates in forestry colleges and related disciplines. It will serves as a reference book for students, teachers, foresters, policy makers, anthropologists, research workers, aspirants of competitive exams and general readers as well.

The Basic and Strategic theme incor-porated the status of pulp and paper industries in the country with recent developments which will help not only the paper industries but also the stakeholders associated with plantation and agroforestry development programme. The recent advancements and deve-lopments made in pulpwood species through breeding and improvement along with alter-nate genetic resources amenable for paper production are furnished in tree improvement theme which will benefit researchers both in the industry and the institutions in order to update the knowledge and to share and exploit the biological resources for quality paper production.

ISBN : 978-93-86347-98-5 | 2017 | 490 Pages. | Lib. Ed.

Objective Forestry– For All Competitive Examination

2nd Ed.K.T. Parthiban, S. Vennila | S.U. Kanna | P. Durairasu

The growing competition both globally and regionally in Forestry employment has created strong attraction towards competitive books. The State and Central Service Examinations are predominantly conducted in objective type questions which demanded preparation of a Compendium on Question Bank incorporating all subjects. Similarly several wood based industries are recruiting forestry professionals from field officers to managers wherein the recruitment process included screening through competitive examinations. Hence, this text book will find profound utility by the students towards preparation of civil and state service examinations, ICAR Net and Scientists examinations, JRF and SRF examinations and University PG and Ph.D entrance examinations besides meeting other competitive demands of Professional graduates.
