Congratulations to your Section Champions – Jeff Coston earned another PGA Professional Championship, Scott Erdmann is your Assistant Professional Champion and Tyler Swift and his members from Sunland will represent us at the McGladrey PGA National Championship. As you read this, the seniors are vying for the Senior PGA Professional Championship at Tumble Creek. I hope you played in at least one of these events – they are your championships.

Chapter meeting season kicks off on September 8 with the Inland Empire Chapter meeting. The new MSR program requires 12 credits in Section or Chapter meetings. If you start now, earning the requirement should be pretty easy. You earn two credits per hour with chapter meetings worth a maximum of 4 credits and section meetings worth a maximum of 6 credits. Three chapter meetings per cycle or two section meetings and you have all you need. Please don’t wait until the last year! I plan to visit all five meetings this fall….please corner me with your questions or concerns.

The Pacific Northwest Section Merchandise Show, Annual Meeting and Education Program are slated for October 19-21. Check out the web site for details. The Education program is outstanding. We open with David Donatucci, the PGA’s Director of Fitness and Performance on Monday and then Callaway Golf will bring in Roger Cleveland to discuss Golf Club Design on Wednesday. Registration and complete details will be on the web very soon. The Annual Meeting is scheduled for 7:30 AM on Wednesday immediately following Yamaha’s hosted breakfast. Finally, Demo Night will be at Redtail Golf Center on

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Monday evening. Please plan to attend.

Our thanks to PGA professional Chris Peterson and the members of Meadow Springs for hosting the Northwest Open. Entries are still open – join us.

We are approaching deadlines for the PING Phoenix Foursome and the Maui Jim Winter Pro-Am at Mauna Lani. Entries and information are on the web site or contact Jeff, Molly or Bruce Cudd – 800- 874-5599 for details. A little sunshine really helps the attitude in December and January….not to mention the golf game.

We will start renewing our sponsorships in the next few months. Your recognition of their efforts through thank you notes, emails and most importantly orders, really helps our efforts. Thank you for assistance!

Between the Section and Chapters we conduct 226 events each year. A big thank you to all our host professionals, we appreciate your efforts during the event and especially your efforts to bring the events to your clubs. We know it takes your support – thank you. PS….I’ll be calling soon!

A draft of the 2010 Section schedule is located on page 20 of this ForeWord Press. You will notice a few changes during August and September. We hope this schedule works better for you.

of Jeff Coston, Louie Runge, Chuck Milne, and amateur Pat O’Donnell. Despite a final round 65 by Pat O’Donnell, it was Jeff Coston who remained steady and won his second Senior Oregon Open title in three years. Coston’s final round 66 gave him a three day total of 198. Amateur Pat O’Donnell finished in second with rounds of 68-67-65-200 and professional Scott Williams finished solo third with scores of 68-69-69-206.

The Pacific Northwest Section PGA would like to thank Wildhorse Resort and Casino for their sponsorship and entertainment provided to the players. We would also like to thank PGA Professional Clint Ables and Mike Hegarty and the entire staff at the club.

The first round of the Senior Oregon Open Invitational at Wildhorse Resort and Casino had veterans Mike Early of Port Townsend GC and Chuck Milne of Vanco Driving Range tied for the lead after an opening round of 65. Don Bies of Seattle Golf Club was two strokes off the lead with a first round 67. Only three strokes off the lead was a host of proven tournament players including professionals Jeff Coston (Semiahmoo G&CC), Scott Williams (Glendale CC), Rob Gibbons (Arrowhead GC), Louie Runge (Willapa Harbor GC), Jerry Johnson (Ocean Shores, WA), and amateurs Pat O’Donnell Broadmoor GC) and Ron Janney (Wandermere GC).

The Senior Oregon Open consists of several different games rolled into one event. Each team consists of one professional three amateurs (all players must be at least 50 years-old). There is a two day 36-hole team game consisting of one gross score and one net score out of the foursome. Another 36-hole game is a competition between the “Super Seniors” which is open to all professionals that are 60 years old or more. And

finally, the competition for the championship, which is a 54-hole gross stroke play event for the title of Senior Oregon Open champion. There is also a 54 hole net competition that is open to anyone in the tournament.

Jeff Coston took the lead after the second round shooting rounds of 68-64-132. He led by two strokes over Louie Runge and Chuck Milne. In solo fourth was amateur

Pat O’Donnell with a two round total of 135. Going into the final round, the championship was still up for grabs with such amazing talent near the top of the leaderboard.

The team of professional Chuck Milne and his amateurs Kelvin Wolther, Jim Thurman and Rich Oberst won the 36-hole one net, one gross competition after firing rounds of 123-126-249 to take the title by one stroke over the team from Crooked River Ranch lead by Past President Pat Huffer. 61-year-old Chuck Milne of Vanco Driving Range won the 36 hole Super Senior division with scores of 65-69-134 over Don Bies.

Coston turned in a winning total of seven-under-par 209 to capture the Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Champion title. Adrian Burnter of Columbia Edgewater CC of Portland, OR was runner-up, finishing at 214. They are joined by Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley CC (Kent, WA), Darren Black of San Juan CC (Friday Harbor, WA), Rob Gibbons of Arrowhead GC (Mollala, WA), and Matt MacConnell of Gozzer Ranch (Coeur d’ Alene, ID). Making its first appearance in Indiana, the PGA Professional National Championship brings together a field of 312 contestants representing The PGA of America’s 41 nationwide Sections.

In 2010, the National Championship field will compete at the Pete Dye Course and the Donald Ross Course, a complex that blends both the tradition and modern architectural designs in championship golf. The National Championship will be contested on the par-70, 7,000-yard Donald Ross Course, which opened in 1917, and the par-72, 7,400-yard Pete Dye Course, which opens this spring. The final two rounds will be conducted on the Pete Dye Course.

The PGA Professional National Championship, carrying a $550,000 total purse this year, is broadcast (all four rounds) by GOLF CHANNEL. Following 36 holes of play, the field will be trimmed to the low 70 scorers and ties.

The low 20 scorers in 2010 will earn berths into the 92nd PGA Championship, Aug. 9-15, 2010, at Whistling Straits (Straits Course) in Kohler, Wis.
