Description:
"Forgotten Men" is a 102,000-word "non-commercial" monograph (ISBN 978-0-9805623-2-3) focusing on the service of Portuguese subjects with the Australian Services Reconnaissance Department (SRD)/Z Special Unit during World War II. The monograph was written to support submissions (2007-2009) seeking recognition for their service by the Australian Government - see Preface and pp.86-87. The story of the more than 600 civilians evacuated from Timor to Australia during the War is also related - including those interned. The work is extensively footnoted, and readers are encouraged to read the primary source documents. Hard copies of this book are available in the National Library of Australia, the State Library of Victoria - and with several other libraries and academics in Australia and overseas. Copies are also with the Australian Department of Defence, Department of Veterans' Affairs, the Australian War Memorial, the Australian Commando Association, the Mary Mackillop East Timor Centre etc.
