EQUIPMENT UTILIZATION FACTOR The priority is to focus on quantifiable factor that is clearly linked to the optimum lift truck utilization. The engine hour meters is not able to indicate whether or not the equipment is being utilized versus sitting at rest with engine idling. The only way that material handling vehicle can be put to productive use is through an operator. Many operations use the engine hour meter to monitor their operators’s use of the equipment. The limitation of this method of monitoring vehicle productive activity is that some operator can take a numerous short and longer breaks not being productive.The engine hour meter can not monitor the operator’s productive interaction with the material handling vehicle.The UT SkidWeigh Plus series installed on material handling vehicle will monitor that the operator is in fact utilizing the equipment. As soon vehicle ignition switch is turned on and vehicle is utilized within the utilization factor there is no need to record anything else, except optional events such as impacts, overloads, etc. The true vehicle idling times will be recorded automatically. Once a company understands and focus on the each vehicle idle times as a key performance indicator your performance measurements will be the most effective management tool that determines your overall material handling fleet utilization success. * Note: Event Code 0 represents automatic idling time within utilization factor Tracking Operators With High Idle Times Snapshots of two vehicle automatic idling times operating for 10 minutes in same material handling activity The importance to track equipment idling times by each operators demonstrates the value of assigning excessive idling times to the individual operators. The real time reporting with visual feedback to the operator of the current operational status will add an extra layer of accountability for ineffective operators while rewarding the ones with low idling times.
