Formative and Summative Assessments Mouza Alayyan
Assessment
Assessment is the most popular way to get information about
student’s level in the class, and their learning process, in
addition, it gives students feedback about themselves and their
weakness area (Hanna & Dettmer, 2004).
Types of Assessments
Summative Assessment
Formative Assessment
Formative assessment refers to tests are applied during the learning process daily or weekly, where the teacher can monitor student’s learning and give them feedback to improve their learning for the final assessment such as homework tasks, class activities, small quizzes and meeting between the student and the teacher (Kyriacou, 2007).
Summative assessments are an exam that occur at the end of the semester or after the curriculum is accomplished such as example like mid-term exam, final project and final paper (Kyriacou, 2007).
