Östhammar, Sweden Forsmark is one of the most modern nuclear power plants in Sweden and situated near the east coast town of Östhammar. By producing an average of 23.5 terrawatt hours per year the plant covers about one sixth of Sweden’s total energy consumption. Operator: Forsmarks Kraftgrupp AB Consultant: Westinghouse Application: 1,230 MW Commissioned: Unit 1: 1980 Unit 2: 1981 Unit 3: 1985 Clean Energy for Sweden Forsmark comprises three boiling water reactor units. The first two units were con- nected to the grid in 1980 and 1981 with a net output of 961 MW and 954 MW respectively. Another 1195 MW of power were added in 1985 by single-turbine reactor unit 3. Right from the start, all major processes have involved numerous KSB pumps of a variety of type series such as reactor coolant pumps, boiler feed pumps, recirculation pumps and condensate pumps. The plant is also equipped with some 600 valves made by KSB. All safety-relevant valves have been retrofitted and updated continuously since 1995. For example by installing newly designed, state-of-the-art valves with cobalt-free hard facing. Actuating force reserves have been increased by retrofitting stronger spring return actuators, and new gate valves are now supplied. Installation and commissioning were supervised by KSB service specialists from Germany. Since the 90s, our service team in Sweden has been in charge of annual maintenance inspections. Clean Energy for Sweden

Forsmark comprises three boiling water reactor units. The first two units were con-

nected to the grid in 1980 and 1981 with a net output of 961 MW and 954 MW

respectively. Another 1195 MW of power were added in 1985 by single-turbine

reactor unit 3. Right from the start, all major processes have involved numerous

KSB pumps of a variety of type series such as reactor coolant pumps, boiler feed

pumps, recirculation pumps and condensate pumps. The plant is also equipped

been increased by retrofitting stronger spring return actuators, and new gate valves

are now supplied. Installation and commissioning were supervised by KSB service
