STREAM ENCROACHMENT

FOR DEPARTMENT USE ONLY

GENERAL

1 . Note how the construction work along and in the stream willbe conducted to avoid excessive turbidityin the stream. Such features as control of runoff, trapping sediment, pump discharges, disposal of materialremoved, sequence of construction, and construction techniques should be addressed. (Reference maybe made to applicable sections of plans, specifications, and erosion control plan).

2. Note those measures which have been taken to minimize disturbing or uprooting trees and vegetationalong and in the vicinityof the stream to preserve streambank stability. Also, note those measures whichwill be taken to restore and stabilize the streambank areas which must be disturbed during construc-tion. (Reference may be made to applicable sections of plans, specifications and erosion control plan).

STREAM CROSSINGS

1 . Please justify the need for each stream crossing including evaluation of alternatives to minimize the numberof crossings.

2. What measures will be taken to insure the sewer crossing under a stream will be rendered throughlywater tight and remain in alignment?

3. For any sewer without the required cover (1 foot in rock and 3 feet in other material), please explainwhy such cover is not provided and what measures are to be taken to minimize the erosion threat atthe crossing location and the aesthetics of the permanent sewer crossing.

4. Note how manholes along the stream willbe made watertight if the top elevation is below the 100 yearflood.

5. List crossings by stream name and sheet numbers in plans. Provide extra set of plan sheets only withstream crossing.

HEADWALLS/OUTFALLS

1 . Explain how the headwall/outfall structure willbe constructed to minimize downstream and/or bank erosionand achieve complete mixing of the treated effluent with the streamf low within a short distance.

r

2. Identify stream by name, show design of outfall/headwall on plan sheet and provide an extra copy.

Describe below all of the applicable items from the above.

The flow from the increased treatment plant capacity will be addedto the existing sewage effluent and discharged into the Susquehanna Riverat the existing outfall No. 079.
