From story to educator movement for social change
July, 2010
One Hen
2
It all started with a book about microfinance and a vision to inspire kids to global citizenship
Teach Microfinance to Harness Kids
as a Force of Hope in the World
The Vision
How
By meeting children online and creating
an interactive digital learning environment
to introduce them to microfinance and
entrepreneurship
3
To address the challenge, numerous volunteers came together…
Art, a
story…
…microfinance
experience…
…interactive game
& web
development…
…educational
needs &
access…

…and www.onehen.org was born!
Through interactive games, kids are able to discover, first-hand how
they can be agents of change with no more than their lemonade-stand
earnings
A teacher and volunteer movement grew quickly around these resources

…and realized the impact we could have

Build Youth Philanthropy
Build Entrepreneurship
• If even .5% of that market redirected
to microfinance, that would generate
$250 million in small loans and help
~ 1.25M of an estimated 600 million
unfunded entrepreneurs worldwide
• We aim to inspire more kids to entrepreneurship: If just .5% of at-risk
kids in the US developed an entrepreneurial vision for their lives that
kept them in school and out of jail we could save U.S. society $2-4
billion

you can make a difference by doing one thing,
like you could give your Christmas money to
charity. Like if someone has special needs or to
a research fund…”
