Prayer & Fasting Introduction •We need to continually dwell in God’s presence for constant communion with Him•The major ways to dwell in God’s presence is through Prayer and Fasting.

•Prayer is a form of communing with God –A time we speak to Him and He back –A time we make our request and supplications known–A time we thank Him–A time we intercede–A time we worship

•What it means to dwell in God’s presence – Ps. 27:4 –Firstly, acknowledge His Greatness and Power –Do not be in a hurry to depart His presence –Lay aside all cares and burdens and focus wholeheartedly on God

•Much is received through dwelling in God’s presence•Be still in God’s presence, so you may hear Him

Prayer & Fasting What is Fasting? •Fasting and Prayer go hand in hand•Fasting is denying ourselves of food to spend time with God in prayer •Referred to as Waiting on the Lord •When we fast, we put our fleshly bodies under the control of our spirit man•Fasting is a time to receive renewal of strength from God – Is 40:29-31, Matt 6:16-18 •Fasting does not compel God to answer prayers – Matt 6:18•God commands us to call upon Him – Is 55:6, Matt 7:7

The breakdown of the Lord’s Prayer: Matt 6:9-151.Worship2.Ask God to establish His Kingdom on earth even as it is in heaven3.Make petitions known; ask for blessings and grace4.Ask for forgiveness of sins5.Ask for protection and guidance 6.End with praise, worship and thanksgiving

Prayer & FastingForms of Prayer•Other forms of prayer that will increase our time in God’s presence:

–Prayer of Supplication – Acts 1:14, Eph 6:18–Prayer of Intercession – Acts 12:5, Eph 6:18–Prayer of Thanksgiving – Eph 5:20–Praying in the Holy Ghost – Rom 8:26

•As we progress in our walk with God we will learn more forms of prayer •Dwelling in God’s presence is not a physical act but having constant communication with God throughout the day•We must allocate a period of each day to spending time with Him
