Overview The Foundations of Screen Storytelling introduces students to the fundamentals of screen storytelling. This unit may be taken as part of the Bachelor of Screen Production or as an audit unit for those looking to upskill their screen storytelling and analysis. Over the last century the screen has transformed the way we tell stories. Since its inception in 1800s the screen medium has adapted to consumer needs and formats. The unit provides students with an important overview of storytelling through image, sound, design, direction, editing and performance. Students will learn to analyse and evaluate screen ‘works’ in regard to the various creative contributions (direction, scripting, cinematography, design, performance, sound, and editing). This foundational unit provides a common, shared language for analysis and evaluation of screen excerpts that students will encounter in the various discipline-specific units they would study ongoing in the Bachelor of Screen Production course. Who is this for? This is for students who have an interest in screen storytelling or for those looking at undertaking some professional development in the area. This could include: Industry workers in film/television including performers Professionals in marketing, sales, entrepreneurs or even HR. This unit is also for students looking at commencing the Bachelor of Screen Production in 2021 and wanting to get a head start. About the Bachelor of Screen ProductionDelivery: By Excelsia College and Sydney Film School, at the two campuses (Macquarie Park and Waterloo)

Dr Mark Seton currently teaches into the Film Project and Video Production units in the School of Creative and Performing Arts at Excelsia College. He has previously lectured in performing arts and media arts theory and practice at the Australian Film TV and Radio School (AFTRS) and was also its Dean of Education from 2010 to 2011. Prior to this, Dr Seton has worked variously as an editor, production manager, director, writer and producer in film and video production for over 20 years.

Cancellation PolicyExcelsia College reserves the right to cancel the PD unit in the event of insufficient numbers, presenter illness and/or due to unforeseen events outside the control of the College. In the event this occurs, attendees will be notified and will receive a full refund.

Attendees are required to finalise their payment by the due date. Attendees may withdraw from the PD no later than one week before the commencement of the PD. While it is acknowledged that life circumstances can unexpectedly prevent people attending, there is no provision for a refund after 31 August, 2020. Attendees wishing to withdraw from the PD must put this request in writing, and submit by email to [email protected]
