Gospel
Jesus said to his disciples: “To you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic. Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same. If you lend money to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, and get back the same amount. But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
“Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give, and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.”
1. In today’s world, how well would these teachings work in political life? In international affairs? In our own lives?
2. What is the picture of God that Jesus presents here? Is this our image of God? Why/Why not?

3. What motives does Jesus encourage for acting in the manner He recommends? Do these motives seem sufficient to us? Why/Why not?
4. Under what circumstances would you lend to those who might not repay you? Would you only
lend money to anyone who asked you? Would it only be to a family member, a close friend, or a person who you only slightly know, or how about a stranger?
How many times have we heard the stories of someone in need and a stranger helps them?
Then, later in life, that stranger receives much more than what he gave.

“every individual who becomes pregnant has the
fundamental right to choose to carry a pregnancy to term, give birth to a child, or to have an abortion”, but “a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus shall not have independent rights under Vermont law.”
The bill was introduced the same day that New York passed, and Governor Andrew Cuomo signed,
its reprehensible Reproductive Health Act on the anniversary of the 1973 US Supreme Court's
Roe v. Wade decision. The law now guarantees that abortion would remain legal in New York, even if the case were to be overturned by the
Supreme Court. The New York State Catholic Conference commented that “Our beloved state
has become a more dangerous one for women and their unborn babies.”
The proposed Virginia bill was narrowly defeated. It would have vastly widened the narrow rationale of Virginia law allowing third trimester abortions, by no longer requiring that a woman’s physical or mental health be “substantially and irremediably impaired” and only requiring the approval of the doctor performing the abortion. The bill would
have allowed abortion, virtually on demand, up until the point of birth.
In July 2018, Massachusetts passed a law that would ensure abortion remains legal in the state.
New Mexico's legislature is also considering an abortion rights law. The bill would repeal the
state’s laws criminalizing abortion, which date to the 1960s but have not been enforced since 1973.
Each of these bills has the intention of protecting a woman's right to choose a
death sentence for her unborn child should the Supreme Court ever overturn Roe v. Wade.
How about the rights of the 30,000,000+ unborn women and 30,000,000+ unborn men
that have been aborted since Roe v Wade?
The bishops of Florida ask us to pray for an end to abortion.
"Please pray for our elected and appointed leaders. Pray especially for those who support and celebrate
abortion, that their eyes will be opened to the atrocity of killing an innocent human life in a mother's womb.
Pray that those who are pro-life and oppose abortion are reassured and strengthened in their convictions.
Pray that all may recognize that devaluing the most innocent and vulnerable life leads to a coarseness and callousness towards one another and all life. And, pray
that we have the strength to continue to fight until the scourge of abortion is brought to an end."

Whatever happened to: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these
are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”?
The governments of many states seem determined to remove the first and foremost unalienable right, “The Right to Life”! St. Mark’s parishioners are
overwhelmingly supporting our Spiritual Adoption Program. Over 2000 prayer cards have been
accepted and our prayers are needed now, more than ever. The devil is hard at work to continue
the genocide known as abortion.
Several states have moved to enact stronger abortion rights since October's appointment of Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court justice to replace the retiring justice Anthony Kennedy.
A bill was introduced in the Vermont House of Representatives that would prohibit public entities from interfering with or restricting women's access to abortion
The Freedom of Choice Act is meant to “safeguard the right to abortion” by ensuring it is
not “denied, restricted, or infringed.” It asserts that (continued)

If you have not yet picked up a pledge envelope, please do so now. Envelopes are available in the Narthex. We need every registered parishioner to complete an envelope. You can complete and return an envelope in 3 ways: 1) Make a pledge and return your envelope, putting it in one of the boxes provided at all entrances. 2) If all you can do is a small donation, you can do that by enclosing the cash/check in your pledge envelope and returning it in one of the boxes provided at entrances. 3) If you cannot, or do not want to, donate at this time, we still need you to complete a pledge envelope indicating this and placing your pledge envelope into one of the collection boxes provided at entrances. The important thing is that we need you to return an envelope. We are required to contact every registered parishioner who has not responded to the appeal drive. If you want to avoid receiving letters from us, please make it easy for both of us and return your envelope. We have no desire to send out form letters. Thank you for participating in this year’s appeal. You are considered as “participating” as soon as you have returned your pledge envelope.

With your help “2018” was a record-breaking
year. Our Soup Kitchen served 38,159 clients
for their luncheon meal. Our Food Pantry took
applications for 12,982 clients, serving 32,626
family members. Combined together, we
touched the lives of ….70,785 family members.
Never could we have achieved this remarkable
service from our Ministry to the Poor
without your support through donations,
volunteering, and most importantly,
Prayer for continued service.
This past year has been a challenge, with moving
out of our old facility and moving to our new
facility all at the same time. Yet, with the
cooperation of our wonderful volunteers and
donors, we were able to succeed. Your continued
support and Prayers are examples of what our
Parish is known for…. “The Little Church
with the Big Heart.”

Change in Policy on Use of
Social Hall for Funeral Repasts
Registered parishioners have always had the
privilege of using the Social Hall for a repast
after a Funeral Mass.
Effective February 1, 2019, the Social Hall may
now be used for a repast only when there is an
expected group of 50 or more persons.
A caterer must also be arranged.
We regret having to make this change. However,
our hospitality volunteers just cannot continue
to handle the number of requests for
setup, serving and cleanup assistance.
We hope that all of our
parishioners will understand.

is again offering a series of 5 different preventive health screenings here at St. Mark.
If you missed them in January, you have another opportunity to take advantage of this very economical medical service.
Screenings will take place from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 27th, in the Social Hall.
Because Boyle Imaging has seen many people decline screenings due to financial barriers, they now offer an alternative. In addition to their usual fee schedule, they now have an additional option of “Donation only,” meaning you pay only what you can afford.
Individual financial circumstances don’t have to be a barrier to receive screenings that can potentially save your life.
It is recommended you call for an appointment; however, walk-ins are welcome. All screening reports are given to you the same day.

Marriage Encounter Monthly Meeting
If you have been on a Marriage Encounter weekend, you are invited to join other WWME couples at monthly Circle Image meetings.
The next meeting will be Saturday, March 9th.
Meetings are held the second Saturday of each month at 7:30 PM in St. Timothy’s Ministry Building.

St. Mark’s Lending Library
Now open from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM, Monday thru Thursday. We are also
open during Donut Sundays. Rather than a Library helper assisting you,
we are operating on an “honor system” where you can check out and
return items on your own. Entrance to the Library is thru the Social Hall.

A V A I L A B L E M A S S I N T E N T I O N S
In addition to our 2019 Mass Book Intentions, we are offering the opportunity
for you to have Masses said by either Father Rafal Glinkowski or
Father Sebastian Hanks at our Pauline Fathers Monastery in Kittanning, PA. These Masses will be announced in the
bulletin on the first weekend of the month following the month
in which the Masses were offered.
Also, the St. Mark Mass Society offers you the opportunity to offer Masses
for an entire year for yourself or a loved one. Those enrolled in the Mass Society are prayed for at the
8:00 AM Mass on the First Saturday of each month for 12 months.
Offering a Mass for someone is one of the best gifts you can give them, whether to celebrate a birthday or anniversary or
to offer healing to someone sick. Cards are $10, and there are several
different styles from which you can choose.
