Four Friends HelpedMark 2:1-12

MAIN POINT: JESUS HEALED A PARALYZED MAN AND FORGAVE HIS SINS.

Jesus had been traveling, and He went to Capernaum. When the people in the town heard that Jesus was home, they gathered at the house to hear Him teach. So many people came that they stood in the doorway, and there was no more room for anyone else.

Just then, four men came to the house. They were carrying their friend on a mat because he could not walk. They wanted Jesus to heal him, but they could not get through the crowd. So the men carried their friend up to the roof. Then they lowered their friend through the crowd so that he was right in front of Jesus.

Jesus saw that the friends had faith, and He told the man lying on the mat, “Young man, your sins are forgiven!”

Jesus knew what the religious leaders were thinking. He said to them, “Why are you thinking like that? Is it easier for Me to say to this man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Get up and walk’?”

Jesus showed His power on earth to forgive sins by turning back to the man on the mat. “Get up, pick up your mat, and go home,” Jesus said.

The man who had been unable to walk immediately got up. He picked up his mat, and he went home, just like Jesus commanded.

Everyone in the crowd could hardly believe what they had seen! They praised God.

Christ Connection: The man who was paralyzed needed to be healed. Jesus knew this and did something even greater; Jesus forgave his sins, and then He healed the man. Because Jesus is God, He has the power and authority to heal and forgive. Jesus forgives those who trust in Him.

Write the name of a friend and list a few things you can pray for that friend this week.

Jesus Has Power Over EvilMark 5:1-20

MAIN POINT: JESUS HEALED A MAN WITH MANY EVIL SPIRITS.

One day, Jesus and His disciples sailed across the sea from Galilee to the region of the Gerasenes. As soon as Jesus stepped out of the boat, a man came out to meet Him. He had an evil spirit in him that caused him to hurt and suffer.

He knelt down in front of Jesus, and Jesus commanded the evil spirit. “Come out of this man!”

The evil spirit spoke through him. “What do You have to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?”

The spirits inside the man begged Jesus not to send them away.Nearby, a large herd of pigs was eating on a hillside. The evil spirits said, “If

you send us anywhere, send us into those pigs.” So Jesus allowed the evil spirits to leave the man and go into the pigs. All of the pigs ran down the hill and into the sea.

The men who took care of the pigs saw what happened, and they ran off and told everyone what Jesus had done. The people came out to see Jesus, and they saw the man who had been living in the caves. The man did not have an evil spirit inside him anymore. The people were afraid, and they asked Jesus to leave.

As Jesus was getting back into the boat, the man who had been living in the caves asked Jesus if he could go with Him. But Jesus said, “Go home to your friends and family members. Tell them what happened and how the Lord helped you.” The man obeyed Jesus. He told all the people about what Jesus had done for him.

Christ Connection: Only Jesus had the strength to control the man with the evil spirits. Jesus has power over evil, and He used His power to free the man. He has power over everything. Jesus came to earth to destroy the Devil by dying on the cross. One day, Jesus will end evil forever.

Write a few sentences about what you were like before you met Jesus and how He has changed you. If you are not a believer, list questions you have about Jesus, the Bible, or church.

Jesus Healed a Woman and Raised a GirlMark 5:21-43

MAIN POINT: JESUS HEALED A BLEEDING WOMAN AND RAISED A GIRL FROM THE DEAD.

Jairus fell at Jesus’ feet and begged for His help. “My daughter is about to die! Please come touch her so she will be healed and live,” he said.

Jesus went with Jairus, and many people followed, crowding around Him.In the crowd was a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years. She had seen

many doctors and spent all her money, but no one could help her. The woman had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His clothes. She said to herself, “If I touch even His clothes, I will be healed.”

As soon as she touched Jesus’ clothes, her bleeding stopped and she knew she was healed.

Jesus turned around and said, “Who touched My clothes?”The woman, knowing she was healed, came forward and fell before Jesus. She

told Him what had happened.Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. You

are healed.”While Jesus was speaking, some men came from Jairus’s house and said, “Your

daughter is dead.”Jesus told Jairus, “Do not be afraid. Just believe.”Jesus and three of His disciples went to Jairus’ house. Jesus took Jairus and his

wife into the room where the child was. He took the girl by the hand and said, “Little girl, get up.”

Immediately, the girl got up and began walking around. Jairus and his wife were amazed. Jesus told them to give the girl some food and to not tell anyone what had happened.

Christ Connection: By healing the woman and raising the little girl from the dead, Jesus showed His power as the Messiah. Jesus died on the cross and rose again to save people from sin and death. When we trust in Jesus, God forgives our sin and changes us to be more like His Son.

List anything you need that you cannot do yourself. Consider things you are nervous or worried about.

FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS• What did Jesus say made the woman well? (See Mark 5:34.)

• How do you think Jairus felt when he heard his daughter had died? What did Jesus say to him?

Jesus Raised LazarusJohn 11:1-7,17-44

MAIN POINT: JESUS RAISED LAZARUS FROM THE DEAD.

Jesus and Lazarus were friends. One day, Lazarus got sick. Mary and Martha sent a message to Jesus. “Lord, Your friend Lazarus is sick,” they said.

Jesus told His disciples, “This sickness will bring glory to God and to the Son of God.”

By the time Jesus arrived in Bethany, Lazarus had been in a tomb for four days. Martha said, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”

Jesus replied, “Your brother will rise again.”Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me,

even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die—ever. Do you believe this?”

“Yes, Lord,” Martha said. “I believe You are the Messiah, the Son of God.”Mary fell at Jesus’ feet and said, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would

not have died!” Mary was crying, and Jesus wept too.Mary led Jesus to the tomb where Lazarus was buried. Remove the stone,”

Jesus said.So the stone was moved aside. Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank You

that You heard Me.” Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”Lazarus came out of the tomb, wrapped in linen and cloth. Jesus said, “Unwrap

him and let him go.”

Christ Connection: When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He showed that He has power over death. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.” Jesus died on the cross for our sin and rose from the dead. He gives eternal life to those who trust in Him.

List questions or thoughts you have about today’s Bible story. Do you have any questions about death or eternal life? Talk with a parent or teacher this week about your questions.

FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS• Why do you think Jesus waited two

days to visit Lazarus?

• Can you think of other times God might not act right away when we ask Him to?

• What does it mean that Jesus is “the resurrection and the life”?
