THIS year sadly four local names will be added to the Memorial Wall, Brian Buck-ley, Jim Threlfall, Merv Shaw (Mansfield) and Phil Shaw (Gobur).
All very well-known men in our region.
The memorial recognises those men who have worked and died in the industry, con-tributing so much to our lives.
It is often said that if our trucks stop, our shelves would
quickly empty and our live-stock would not get to market!
The memorial wall has been in place since 2014.
Our initial memorial service was held in 2013.
Instigated by Uniting’s GriefWork Program and in partnership with the Alexan-dra Truck Ute and Rod Show Committee, the service has become an annual event.
The Memorial Wall is lo-cated in the Rotary Park, Grant Street in Alexandra.
This year for the fi rst time a convoy will be a prelude to
the service, with families plac-ing banners dedicated to their loved ones on trucks taking part in a convoy.
The convoy will leave Yark at around 1pm and proceed to Alexandra where they will park near the memorial at about 1.30pm.
Following the memorial service, afternoon tea will be served which is sponsored by Burls Transport.

REMEMBERING OUR TRUCKIES: The Victorian Truck Drivers Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 9 at the Rotary Park in Alexandra.
Four local truckie names added to wall
IN the spirit of National Volunteer Week held from May 21-27, Strathbogie Shire Council would like to acknowledge all of the local volunteers who dedicate their time to benefit community.
As part of the Wear Orange Wednesday campaign, council staff wore orange to honour the SES volunteers across Australia who give up their time to serve their communities in floods, storms and other emergencies
and to acknowledge all volunteers in the shire who give back to their community.
The National Volunteer Week campaign slogan ‘Give a little, change a lot’ epitomises the selflessness and generosity of local volunteers who contribute their time to making the Strathbogie Shire a great place to live, work and play.
Strathbogie Shire mayor Amanda McClaren said she is constantly
blown away by the generosity of local individuals and community groups.
“Our shire may be small in stature but boy we are an active bunch,” mayor McClaren said.
“It is the ongoing commitment of volunteers that make our communities tick; from the local CFA, Euroa SES and the Euroa Community Cinema, to the Visitor Information Centres and the multitude of community groups and
passionate individuals.”“Volunteers and are absolutely
crucial in times of emergency and provide valuable services for residents and visitors alike, generating tourism and economic growth for the region,” Cr McClaren explained.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one you who volunteer in our shire; we wouldn’t be anywhere without volunteers.”
Council also encourages community members interested in volunteering in some capacity to reach out to local community groups or contact Council Offices to find out where and how you can be involved.
“Volunteering provides people with the opportunity to learn skills, build social networks and be a part of the local community,” Mayor McClaren said.
