Someone reported a burst water pipe on a residential street in Long Island, New York. Some police came to the area and knocked on the door of house near the burst pipe. There was no an‐swer. They heard the television blaring inside, so they kept knocking. Still no answer. The police decided to enter the house. They made their way to the living room, and there they found the mummified remains of the resident, a 70-year-old man who had been dead for more than a year, sitting right in front of the blaring TV. The man, Vincenzo, appeared to have died of natural causes. No one had visited that man's house for an entire year, even though he lived in a crowded neighborhood.
This is why Jesus sends out his disciples, this is why he sends us out - to make sure that the men and women he died for aren't abandoned. Jesus wants us to be his missionar‐ies right here: in our families, in our neighborhoods, in our work places. And he has appointed us to be his hands and his feet: if we don't bring his message to those around us, the message may never arrive. This summer, let’s resolve to manifest Christ’s love to someone who feels abandoned.

Alguien reportó una tubería de agua rota en una calle residencial en Long Island, New York. Algu-nos policías fueron al área y tocaron a la puerta de la casa cercana donde se rompió la tubería. No hubo respuesta. Ellos escucharon dentro el ruido de la televisión, así que ellos insistieron y siguieron tocando. No tuvieron respuesta. La policía decidió entrar en la casa. Llegaron hasta la sala, donde encontraron los restos momificados del residente, un hombre de 70 años que había estado muerto por más de un año, sentado enfrente de la televisión. El hombre, Vincenzo, apa-rentemente murió de causas naturales. Nadie visitó la casa de ese hombre por un todo un año, aún cuando el vivía en un vecindario muy poblado.
Por eso Jesús manda a sus discípulos, por eso El nos envía a nosotros - para estar seguro de que los hombres y mujeres, por los que El murió no sean abandonados. Jesús quiere que seamos misioneros aquí mismo: con nuestras familias, en nuestros vecindarios y en nuestros lugares de trabajo. Y El nos ha elegido para ser sus manos y sus pies: si no llevamos su mensaje a los que están a nuestro derredor, el mensaje nunca llegará. En este verano, decidamos manifestar el amor de Cristo a alguien que se siente abandonado.
