Bill Cole My Cursillo weekend, LC 94 in 2004, was a seminal moment in my life. Suddenly I was see-ing my life from a different perspective, no longer inward, but outward. It was not all about me, but all about God and how He was going to use me for his purpose and glory. Seeing life from this prospective has given it new meaning and new purpose. It has not been all rainbows and unicorns since then, but we were never promised that it would be easy. “In the world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33. But that is also one of the great things about Cursillo. We get to meet other Christian men, whom we get to share our fears, failures and triumphs without judgment. Instead we get encouragement, we are inspired and we build real friendships. We may only see each other a couple of times per year, but those en-

counters are often deep and meaningful. We get to experience Christ through a brother and we get to be Christ to another when needed. God’s grace is such a simple and amazing gift: He knows us and knows our faults, sins and darkness, but loves us so much and wants us to be with Him. He sees us as He created us, pure and holy. He loves us so much that he sent us Jesus, our Lord and Savior, to pay our debt. It’s simple and given freely – all we have to do is take it. That is what led me to choose the verse for LC150: “…For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” Jeremiah 31:34. God has already made His presence felt on this weekend. Like many weekends, we have had several setbacks, but He has provided every step of the way. We just need to get out of his way! I know God has an individual plan for each pilgrim and each team member on this weekend. I can’t wait for it to unfold. God is good… all the time! Bill Cole

Marilyn Anderson

De Colores, my name is Marilyn Anderson and I have been called to be Rectora for LC 151. My pilgrim weekend was a long time ago, LC61 in February 1999, exactly 15 years ago. God’s chosen verse for the weekend is Psalms 42:1 “As the deer panteth for the water so my soul longeth after thee”. Shortly after my pilgrim weekend I fell in love with the song “As the Deer.” It really spoke to me. It seemed to talk about the longing I felt for a sense of belonging to a family. Cursillo filled the longing. It has given me sisters and brothers that I can call on, laugh with, cry with and pray with; something I really needed growing up. My logo contains the cross, in my favorite colors, pink and purple, a deer (of course), a frog and butterflies (the bunnies came with the artwork and I kept them). The frog has had special meaning to me since high school. When I was 16 my older brother, and confident, moved to Chile for 6 months to teach in a mission school. He ended up being gone for both my junior and senior year. I was as devastated as a 16 year old girl could be. He was not only my confident but protector in a somewhat dys-functional family. When he left he gave me a stuffed frog to talk to and get advice from; sometimes just talking about your problems will give you a solution and he knew this. It wasn’t until years later that I learned the true meaning of Fully Rely On God. I don’t know if he meant that when he left it, but I believe that God was with me those 2 years. I am honored and humbled to be called as Rectora but with God’s help and your prayers I know it will be a great weekend. Blessings, Marilyn Anderson

Don’t Miss Our NEW WebsiteLutheran Cursillo of Southern California introduced a new website in December 2013, which can still be found at the same web address, www.lcsocal.org. The new website was designed with ease of use in mind, and offers several new features and benefits. Among the new features are online applications for pilgrims, sponsors and team, online prayer requests, online sign-ups for current 72-hour prayer vigils, a ‘Contact Us’ feature that allows you reach any member of the Secretariat, a built in donation option, and more. Returning from the previous

page is information about upcoming weekends, download-able hard-copy versions of all applications, news and information, and more.

The new website is a work in progress and will continue to be refined and improved in the coming months. To that end, we very much welcome your feedback, comments and suggestions - as well as reports of any bugs or errors you might have encountered. Please click the ‘Contact Us’ tab on the website and select ‘Contact our Webmaster’ - or send an email to [email protected] if you have anything you wish to share.

A useful new feature on the website is the ability to opt-in to Cursillo Communications, which will help keep you informed of what’s going on in the community. Signing up is very quick, and may be found on the front/home page of the website. Please be assured that your contact information will only be used for Cursillo communications.

In conjunction with the new website, Lutheran Cursillo a new online donation system. The backbone of the new system is provided by Vanco Services, the same company that supports the Thrivent Simply Giving program used by many Lutheran Congregations. Online donations via the website are very safe, and are a quick and efficient means for making a one-time or recurring donation. When/where possible, members are asked to use the electronic check / ACH feature instead of using a credit or debit card. Lutheran Cursillo saves a substantial amount in processing fees when the electronic check / ACH feature is utilized. Plus, funds are deposited into our account much faster with this option. We appreciate your spirit of idealism, self-surrender and charity.

UltreyasDo you enjoy gathering with your fellow Cursillistas and spending time in fellowship and worship? Think back to your Pilgrim weekend and the Rollo you heard just before lunch on Sunday about Grouping and Ultreyas. Do you remember what your Table Leader told you about how important it was that each of you find other Cursillistas and join together to keep the fellowship of Cursillo alive?

Please take a moment to look at the grid below and notice the number of months that do not have a location for an Ultreya. It is a challenge to keep the fellowship alive with no place to meet. An Ultreya is a way to keep the spirit of your Pilgrim weekend alive and growing. They are a way to “recharge your batteries”, help keep you connected to the community, and to help keep the excitement of sharing our faith with each other alive.

The Secretariat encourages all of the congregations to prayerfully consider hosting an Ultreya during one of the open months listed. For more information or help, contact Kedma Wenz, our Ultreya Coordinator via the ‘Contact Us’ tab on our website (lcsocal.org) or via email at [email protected]. Kedma is more than happy to assist you in the planning and promotion of an Ultreya at your home church. It is a great time for meeting old friends, making new friends and allowing the Spirit to work in us.

One last thought. An isolated Christian is a paralyzed Christian. Don’t allow yourself to become paralyzed.

Ultreyas Are An Important Part of the Cursillo Movement.
