Strength in Numbers, Or Not . . .

About 12 years ago the numbers of stray dogs in Peru started to grow. Now, there are thousands in every city. Many of them come from people who can’t afford them. Others come from

Shown above. These orphan dogs were found and rescued. people who try to sell them, but when they don’t they abandon them and the dogs become strays. After that, the dogs can have babies! That’s why strays should get spayed or neutered. “Animal abandonment is a huge problem in Peru, as well as many other lower-income countries,” says Molly Mednikow, the U.S. citizen who founded Amazon Community, Animal Rescue, Education,& Safety.(Amazon C.A.R.E.S.) Also, there are many more strays than people dedicated to rescuing them. This means less can be rescued quicker. YOU can help make a difference by donating

Poor Pooch Stray dogs can get hurt anywhere , anytime. They can also

starve or die from serious weight loss. Since homeless dogs can’t go to the vet, they usually die if they get seriously hurt. So at the same time, the population is rapidly increasing and slowly decreasing. If this situation doesn’t stop at least 1,000 may have to be put to sleep. Many people don’t know about this which is another problem. The more people that know, the more donations go to the cause.

Poor Human!

At least 15% of these stray dogs have rabies, a disease from a mammals saliva. If people get bitten by a dog with rabies they will have to pay for expensive rabies shots. This is a problem too. Plus, even if a dog doesn’t have rabies, people can get

seriously hurt from dog bites. Many people have almost been bit and want to kill the dogs. It is a very sad situation.

Not stray, but regular dog on plane. Shown below

Page 4: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

Ship Them Off to America! You might be wondering, why not send them to America or somewhere else? I’ll tell you why. It costs money to take planes. It would take millions of dollars to send them out around the globe. Unlike Texas, you can’t put the dogs on a truck and send them up north. It would be animal cruelty, and we are trying to help the dogs. Sadly, Peru doesn’t want to spend that much money on the dogs. That’s why we should help them! Make your mark in Peru’s history.

Yaaar Pirates Pirates really didn't make people walk the blank the penalty was much worse.

Pirates actually had some laws on their ship of there’s except those laws were called

commissions the penalty for breaking a commission was whipping drowning or marooning. Some other facts you probably didn’t know where that on the ship there are 9 cannons on each side of the ship let’s count that makes 18 cannons on a ship! Next, did you know that pirates who lost legs became cooks. Also, did you know that pirate ships were short and fast not long and bulky. The penalty for getting caught was usually you got hanged and sometimes the captains body was put in tar as a warning to other pirates. What Did Pirates do with all their money?

Usually pirates didn’t bury their treasure the spent it on fancy clothes gambling and drinking. But they didn’t have banks so thats when the buried their treasure. Most pirates when they died were buried with all their loot. Besides stealing treasure they kidnapped people for a high ransom and got money for that.

Page 6: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

Jake and the neverland pirates is a TV show about pirates Questions and Answers

Some of the most asked questions are one what did pirates won’t? Pirates wanted money and they would kidnap to get money if they were ransomed back. Second are their still pirates? Yes their are only some but on the west coast of Africa.

This is me snowboarding

Gear Wow! I can’t wait to go snowboarding today! I think it is a fun and great way to exercise. You get to play in the snow and you move your body in fresh air. What you’ll need to snowboard is snow gear so you keep warm, a helmet to be safe, and a board, bindings, and boots to ride. Bindings are the two foot shaped pieces on your snowboard. They are what you clip ts into.

Page 9: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

Just the Facts About 20 years ago snowboarding was not allowed at some ski resorts. They thought it was dangerous. Even some ski resorts now

a days have special sections for snowboarders. Also, the first snowboard was called the “Winterstick”. Jake Burton is one of the most recognizable people in the history of snowboarding that is where the popular snow company “Burton” was made from. Burton also makes boots, bindings, and boards.

In the Air Snowboarding can be tricky, so I am going to tell some basic things you need to know about snowboarding. First you need to clip one foot into your board. Then you hop in line for the chairlift.TickTock TickTock.Time is passing by waiting in line. Finally! We are in front! To get on the chairlift you stand in front of the lift and when it comes around, you sit down. To get off the chairlift you do they same thing as when you get on, but you're going down a tiny hill. Once you're off, you clip in your other foot and start to ride.

Page 10: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

Going For a Ride To get down the mountain you either put your right or left foot in front. You need to turn once in a while to have a good speed…and not to fall! When you fall you feel like your whole body is bruised. Take it from me, I have fallen many of times. It is not a good feeling. But don’t worry, It won’t hurt for long. A Proud Feeling When you finally get down the mountain, you will feel so proud. “If I die snowboarding, you could tell everyone in the world that Jeremy London died happy.” said the famous snowboarder Jeremy London. You will say that to once you snowboard.

UP ON THE STAGE

These are hard shoes. This is an Irish dancer jumping.

Irish dance is a group of traditional dances from Ireland which can be divided into

social dance and performance dances. Irish dance is competitive and very difficult. But it is still very fun! Irish dancing also takes a lot of practice and hard work.

Irish dance was invented in Europe. The Europeans didn’t like the dancing, so Irish dancers kept their arms straight because people used their arms when they danced. When they kept their arms so people did not know that they were Irish dancing. There are many different dances in Irish dance such as light jig, slip jig, treble jig (which you can dance to fast or slow music), hornpipe (which can also be danced to fast or slow music), reel, and group dances. There are also traditional set dances. Some of those dances are called Jockey to the Fair, St. Patrick’s Day, and Blackbird. Traditional set dance are danced in shoes called hard shoes. You would dance these at a competition called a Fies.

When you are dancing, you need to point your toes and have great posture. You also usually to wear wigs and dresses.

Page 12: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

LEVEL UP There are many different levels in Irish dance

such as beginner, advanced beginner, novice, prize winner, open champion, and worlds (which is the highest level). The higher the level is, the harder it will be to win a medal or trophy. To move up a level, you need to win at least one first

place medal or trophy in your dance. An Irish dancer named Lucia says “Irish dancing is very fun and I love the wigs and dresses!”. I hope to be a worlds champion some day soon!

by Jared Video games can be good and bad depending on how long you play and the kind of game it is. Video games can be good for you because they can help you learn new things.Video games can also be bad if you play for more than 2 hours or if it is violent.

Why Video Games Are Good Video games can make your brain grow because you can learn new things from them. Minecraft is an example of a game you can learn things from.It helps you learn things because in Mincraft, you do a lot of thing people did to survive in the old days. Strategy games make people use their brains a lot too. An example of a strategy video game is Pacman. There is a story of a scientist that was studying video games. His name was Dr. Robert. He took a picture of someone’s brain and he told that person to play Super Mario 64 for 30 minutes every day for a month. A month later, the person came back to the lab and Dr. Robert took another picture of the person’s brain. “Wow!” Dr.Robert said to the person. “You’re brain cells tripled!”

Why Video Games Are Bad

If you just sit around all day playing video games, you won’t get vitamin C from the sun. Another reason you should not play video games for too long is that you’re not exercising. You need to exercise at least 1 hour a day to keep healthy. It’s ok to play video games, just don’t play them more than 2 hours. Also it is bad to play violent games. If you play too many violent video games you may be violent when you grow up.I think you shouldn’t play violent games at all.

Devastating Tornadoes Tornadoes are a fascinating and dangerous storm. I like

reading about tornadoes, but I would not want to be in one.

Different Types of Tornadoes

F0 tornadoes are the weakest tornadoes. The maximum winds are 4072 miles per hour. They normally cause light damage such as breaking off branches and pushing over small trees.

The second

weakest tornado is the F1.

The winds for it are 73112. Normally, it causes

moderate damage, breaking off roofs and pushing cars and trailers.

Page 16: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

The F2 tornado is the third weakest the winds are 113 157 it normally causes considerable damage. Roofs get torn off, big trees get toppled, mobile homes are destroyed and

heavy cars are lifted and thrown. The F3 tornadoes are the third fastest. Maximum winds are 158205 m.p.h. They normally cause severe damage and roofs get torn off of the most well constructed structures. Even trains are overturned.

The second strongest tornado is the F4 tornado. It’s winds are 207260 m.p.h. Normally, it causes catastrophic damage and well constructed buildings are leveled structures with weak foundation are

blown away. The strongest tornado is the F5 its winds are 261318 it normally causes total damage and few if Massachusett Tornadoes June 1 2010

Page 17: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

On June 1, 2010 19 F3 tornadoes were in Hampden and Worcester counties. Right after a thunderstorm An unexpect tornado appeared in West Springfield. It surprised LOTS of people because normally you would expected a tornado in Tornado Alley. Sadly four people died. The damage cost Massachusetts 106 million dollars.

Safe Places in a Tornados When a tornado hits you need to go to a safe place. Normally safe places are rooms without windows. In the western part of North America They have rooms under there basements.

I am here to tell you the most important things in Minecraft. The Game The game of Minecraft has no levels, but does have challenges. For example, Getting Wood and Opening Inventory are different challenges. Definitely the hardest challenge to complete is Death To The Dragon because you have to kill the Ender Dragon and that is the hardest mob to beat(I will get into mobs later). Many people watch minecraft videos I watch PopularMMOs on his youtube channel. He is a moded survivalist, which is a player in survival with mods. Creative Did you know that you can do almost anything in Minecraft? I did, but you can not do most things in Survival (which is a different mode from Creative) because you need to gather the material to build anything. In creative you can fly, spawn creatures and summon them. You can summon using the command /summon and then type in the name of the creature. My favorite creature to summon is the Giant. Survival

Page 19: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

Survival is a game mode unlike Creative, in Survival you must survive. One of the most important things to do is to collect some wood and make a bed plus shelter. The way to “beat” the game is to beat the Ender Dragon.(we will get into that later) the only way to beat the Dragon without taking a long time is by using a Enchanted bow,the best enchant to use is Infinity. Mobs Mobs are creators that are either Passive, Neutral, Tamable, Hostile, Passive, Utility, Boss, Unused and Removed mobs. The smallest group of mobs is the boss mobs. There are only two bosses The Ender Dragon and The Wither. The unused mobs are unused you probably gested that the are unused. The unused mobs are Giant, Undead Horse and Skeleton Horse. The tamable mobs are Ocelot(cat), Wolf(dog) and Horse. The Neutral mobs are Enderman, Cave Spider, the normal Spider, Zombie Pigmen and the Wolf. The hostile mobs are the biggest goup they are-Endermite, Silverfish, Zombie (Normal+Villager), Chicken Jockey, The skeleton (Wither skeleton to), the Spider Jockey, Witch, Guardian, Elder Guardian, Creeper, Blaze, Ghast, Slime and Magma Cube. The removed mobs are- Beast Boy, Rana, Black Steve, Steve, Human and Geneic Villager. The utility mobs are- Iron Golem, and Snow Golem. The passive mobs are- Villager, Squid, Bat, Cow, Chicken, Pig, Sheep, Cat, Mooshroom, Bat, Rabbit and Horse. Dimensions The dimensions of Minecraft are the Overworld, the Nether, The End and the Skyworld. The dimension you always spawn in is the Overworld. The Overworld is not the most peaceful dimension, but almost is. The Skyworld is the hardest dimension to get to if you are not lucky, but if you are lucky then you may get to the dimension on your first night. It is also the most peaceful dimension because their are no mobs. The only way to get to the Skyworld is by sleeping and there's a chance that you teleport to the Skyworld. The Nether is the second most dangerous dimension because instead of water there is lava

Page 20: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

which is everywhere so you may need to bring a potion of fire resistance or armor with fire protection, but both stop fire damage. The End is the most dangerous dimension of them all because the Ender Dragon spawns their, so do Enderman and if they knock you off of the stone then you get killed and on your screen it will say “(your players name) fell out of the world”. Enchants Enchants are abilities that you give your weapons, weirdly, you can enchant books, armor and tools before anthin you must have experience points. One enchant that all items can use is Unbreaking, it helps you keep your weapons tools and armor for a longer time before it breaks. Do you think it is a pain to keep having to craft arrows I do, then I found the enchant infinity, now I only have to keep one arrow in my inventory and infinity allows you to use the same arrow every time. Other enchants are Flame, Fire Aspect and Silk touch.(If you would like to see all of the enchants go to Minecraft.Gamepedia.com and search enchant, you can also search everything in minecraft) Those are the most important things in minecraft. Wait, what are you doing? If you have parents permission start playing at Minecraft.net where you buy minecraft.

P.S this game is a lot of fun!

Have you ever learned about the

Solar System? If you haven’t I will tell you about it right now.

PLANETS

There are some really cool things about planets. Let me tell you about some. Uranus is a gas planet that has a ring. Jupiter has a storm that has not ended. The storm on Jupiter is getting smaller. Some planets have moons.

GAS PLANETS Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune are gas planets. That means that those planets are made out of gas. If you try to step on one of these 4 planets you will sink through the planet. Saturn and Uranus both have rings.

IF YOU SPENT A DAY ON A PLANET If I were to spend a day on planet I would spend a day on Mars. I would want to spend a day on Mars because it would not be too hot or too cold because it is halfway between the sun and Neptune.

QUOTES “This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.’’ Neil Armstrong was the first person to go to the moon. Neil Armstrong also said,” I was elated, ecstatic and extremely surprised that we were successful.”

Page 22: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

FAVORITE PLANET What’s your favorite planet? My favorite planet is Uranus. I like Uranus because I like it’s color. I also like Uranus because I learned a lot about it over the years.Uranus is the only planet laying on it’s side. It was the first planet discovered by a telescope.

ASTEROIDS,METEOROIDS, AND COMETS Asteroids, meteoroids, and comets can destroy things but they are very interesting to learn about. Every 76 years a comet comes not a plain old comet Hally’s comet!!! Asteroids like to be in an asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Ancient people thought comets were warnings of something terrible. On a clear night, you should be able to see about 5 meteors an hour. If you have not learned about the Solar System, I hope you learned something new. By: Kate

By Kyle This is a image of a coral reef. The Things You Need to Explore Coral When scuba divers go looking for coral, they need to always have an air tank, diving mask, fins and wetsuits. But you don’t need all that really all you need is a bathing suit and a snorkle. That’s how I did it. Fascinating Facts Part of a coral reef broke off and has been lost for 27

years. You can also regrow coral!!!! Only 1% of the ocean floor has coral on it. Thousands of species live in coral reefs. Most likely if you touch coral it will die. Coral is endangered. Did you know that 60% of the globes reefs have been destroyed? ‘’It’s kind of like if you pull the

Page 24: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

plug on a bathtub and the water is rushing out thats the state of corals,’’ said Steve Palumbi a Marine Biologist from the University of California. DANGER ZONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Listen here! Some coral is really dangerous to humans like fire coral! If you touch it you will get a nasty burn! Also, the sting can last for weeks! Some corals have sharp edges and some have poison or toxic liquid in them. If it scratches you, you could get sick or injured really badly! These are the burns of fire coral.

Page 25: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

Voracious Vocab Here are some tips. Coral is a living thing in the ocean that looks like a plain old rock. Coral reef means a ridge of a rock in the sea formed by growth and deposit of coral.

The Best Part When I went snorkeling I felt so happy that I might burst.

Don’t forget coral looks like a rock but it is really a living thing. In my opinion coral is one of the most fascinating things.

You Would Love It!

Do you know what Longmeadow Days is? Well, now you know it is the most wonderful place on Earth. You can do a lot of shopping and socializing there. It takes place in the summer. You can play games like horseshoes and other activities. There are many activities I love. One is the crafts. Also, you can sign up for upcoming events and do raffles. It is a fundraiser for Longmeadow Historical Society the whole town comes on the green and celebrates.

You would like this

Page 27: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

The best part of Longmeadow Days is the parade. It is full of Girl Scouts, and bands. Before I forget, the cannon is the best part because the people who work the cannon tell you about the history of Longmeadow. The thing I love about Longmeadow Days is shopping because you can buy homemade goods and crafts and some people even let you try stuff out. If you have a brother or a sister under the age of 10, there is a train for them and they get candy after the ride.

It All Started

It all started in 1990. The town was looking for a way for the people to come together and show off the amazing talents so they created Longmeadow Days.

Come and Celebrate

I hope you come and have fun. If you are lucky you might see me!Everyone agrees with me that it is cool and fun. Longmeadow Days is a great day to spend with friends and family.

Friends and family are the best!! Parade Time!

Hero Helpers By: Mia

These awesome police dogs are always on the case. They are agile and mobile trying to find people in collapsing buildings or to sniff out bombs. Dogs can sniff out people buried up to 4 yards of snow and an area of a soccer field in just 15 minutes! It would take a human 2 days to scout out the same area! They are impressive and loyal.

Training When police dogs are starting out the have to go through 68 weeks of training. Trainers use body bite suits so the dog can practice catching

criminals and their bite will not hurt the trainers. Some training sessions a water rescue dog has to jump from a hovering helicopter to help a drowning swimmer. Dogs practice climbing up a ladder into burning buildings. This is called agility training.

Catch Him

Page 29: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

Most mantrailing dogs work with the police because dogs have a very strong sense of smell. Human sweat contains millions of particles of chemicals that pass into the air, and it is carried in the breeze and that makes up a scent. Those amazing dogs can pick up that scent and it is hard to get a dog off the trail. “I’m just still, after all these years, impressed with what they can do. And I still don’t know how they do it.” says Marlene Zähner of Congohounds. I want to be a policewoman when I grow up so I can work

with these heros.

CHRISTMAS BY MICHAEL

Christmas is an annual Christian holiday held on December 25, celebrating the birth of

Jesus. It is the most important holiday for Christians.

Christmas Traditions For Catholics, giving presents was

once banned. Today, presents are given to each other.

There are a lot of fun things about Christmas. You get a Christmas tree and decorate it with

ornaments with your family. The tallest Christmas tree was displayed in Seattle in 1902. It

was 221 feet tall. You also decorate the outside of your house with lights.

Young children believe in Santa Claus. They believe that Santa Claus brings presents to all

the children in the world. On Christmas Eve, you bake cookies for Santa and leave them with

milk near the fireplace. Some people leave carrots for Santa’s reindeer.

Page 32: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

CHRISTMAS CAROLS On Christmas Eve, people knock on your door and sing carols like,

“We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and “Twelve Days of Christmas.” Did you know that if you

received all the gifts from that song you would have 364 gifts?

Christmas is a magical holiday. Most important, it is celebrating Jesus’s birthday. We should

remember to keep Christ in Christmas!

All About the

Wonderful World of Chess

What game has lots of pieces, takes a long time, and you

yell, “Checkmate!”

when you trap the king? Chess of course! You might not like to play chess because it takes so long or you don’t have a chess board. If you don’t play chess because of

the first reason this might change your mind.

Page 34: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

Chess a Game of Strategy Chess is a great and helpful game. It can help you focus

better in school. Also, chess can help you get into college! Additionally, most chess boards have one to eight and a to h on the sides which helps children with coordinate graphs. “I have made many friends through playing chess and enjoy the friendly rivalry the game

encourages,” says international master Michael Basman. Surprisingly, chess can help protect people

from Alzheimers disease.

Chess Around the World

Chess started in India 1,500 years ago and is now played all around the world. Did you know that about 600 million people know how to play chess but only about 280 million people play it?

China plays a game similar to chess but the pieces look like large black

Page 35: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

and tan checkers. Did you know that checkmate means “the king is dead” in Latin? That means the title of this feature article is The King is Dead!!! Also, the first chess tournament was

in northern Italy.

I asked my friends if they liked chess and here is what they said. Never played it: 4

Yes: 12 No:1 I hope you have

learned a lot about chess. It might be a long game but it’s fun to win. If you want to play online go to:

A meg hunting a relative of the gray whale. Dun, dun, dun, dun, duuuuuuun. Remember that music? It was from Jaws, but what you’re

reading about right now is ten thousand times scarier. But what could be scarier than a giant, maneating, great white shark?

Size Matters There were lots of

sharks in ancient times, but none were as awesomely terrifying and immense as megalodon.

Reaching lengths of up to 75 feet and weighing in at 100 tons, megalodon is the largest predator ever to swim the waters of Earth. That means it was big enough to hunt and eat blue whales!

Speaking of whales, Megs’ diet was mostly made up of small 1025 foot long whales and giant sea turtles with shells of 25 feet long and 20 feet wide. I know what you're thinking, how could megalodon bite through the turtle’s shell? Let’s just say it had some pretty powerful jaws, jaws that could bite down with a whopping 110 tons of force! Also it had 5 rows of 47 inch teeth. No biggy.

Page 38: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

During shark week this year there were reports of megs still swimming in the oceans today. Do I believe any of these socalled “discoveries”? I’ll spell it out for you, NO. Most of these

were reported by The Discovery Channel, and were If you tho completely fake. All of the people were actors and the megalodon attack was a fake. The whole documentary was a hoax.

If you thought that T. rex was scary then take a good look at this picture

On The Hunt "The megalodon killing strategy was to bite the tails and flippers off large whales, effectively taking out their propulsion systems," said study leader Stephen Wroe of the University of New South Wales in Australia. This may be a way to disable the creature for an easier meal. Other times when they’re hunting smaller prey like seals and baby whales it might have swam up from beneath the prey item and barreled into it, thus stunning it. Then it went for the killing bite.

End of a Dynasty Megalodon was alive 15.9 to 2.6 million years ago. From the Miocene to the Pleistocene. This was when the Earth was getting a lot warmer. Megs couldn’t cope with the drop in temperature and went extinct. We got lucky we missed the reign of megalodon by 2.6 million years. But what if it the megs were still alive today. Would you ever go in the water again?

Page 39: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

SIX PACK RINGS Don’t kill innocent birds and animals.

Animals at Risk:

fish

birds

skunks

turtles

INNOCENT ANIMALS. Six pack rings can’t do any harm to animals but they can do serious damage or even as bad as death. These animals never do anything bad to humans. If they do anything it’s good. For example; birds eat bugs and worms and spiders.

THE WAY INNOCENT ANIMALS ARE HURT The way these harmless animals are hurt by six pack rings are like for fish, fish can get their throat stuck in

these harmful things. Birds can also, get their throat stuck in six pack rings and not be able to eat and they can die from not eating. Also, these

Page 40: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

are thrown from car windows and animals may see them out in the road and run after them and get hit by a car and die. DON’T LITTER The way these animals die is very sad, and the worst part about it is it starts with you. Littering is something that you can get a big fine from cops and have to pay a lot of money. Also, it is simply not nice to do to this earth/environment. This is your home you should respect it. I am not trying to be a policeman or anything I’m trying to help you because for throwing a piece of trash out the window of your automobile you could have fines starting at $500.

. THAT CAN WAIT. If you have time to buy some kind of soda then you should have time to cut or plop these six pack rings in your trash can and save an animal’s life. One day,my grandma was throwing away six pack rings and she got out her scissors and started to cut them. I then asked,’’Why are you cutting them?’’ She responded and told me,’’Animals can get there necks stuck in them and die.’’ I was shocked that those little things can kill harmless animals. She normally cuts them then puts them in her trash barrel in her garage. So there's not even a chance any animal could get themselves stuck in them. “The trash slices animals up, and by the time they come into us the injuries are so advanced that we can’t do much for them,’’ says Veterinarian Dr. Schneider

Page 41: Fourth Grade Illustrated - Mrs. McColgan Edition

THE MAKERS. Hicone the maker of six pack rings has been very helpful by making them more safe around animals. Now the rings are photodegradable, so they degrade after being exposed to light for 90 days. So next time before you throw the plastic six pack rings out the window think you could kill an animal by doing that little action.

Basketball Brilliance by:RYAN

Do you like basketball? I love it!! It started with a peach basket, no fancy backboard, with a timer, or a shot clock. I’m glad they changed the hoops. Do you know who James Naismith is? I do let me tell you about him. Boss Man Dr.Naismith was born on November 6,1861.He went to the

Have you ever heard of candy canes ? they are crazy and delicious. You don’t just have to suck on them. You can hang them on christmas trees, put them on drinks and many desserts. Candy canes don’t just come in the traditional colors

which are cherry red and snowy white. They also don’t just come in the main flavor which is sweet peppermint. They come in varieties of different colors and flavors. history of the candy cane The candy cane was invented over 350 years ago. A priest from a

catholic church was tired of the children interrupting his christmas church assemblies. So he asked a candy maker to create a candy that represented Jesus and that had the colors red and white to represent christmas so he could pass them out to the younger children to suck on. The original candy cane was plain white and straight but the candy maker changed it to how the priest wanted it.

Woosh! The roller coaster sends a terrifying roar all through the park as all riders are screaming with fear. I think that roller coasters are a good way to get the jitters. What are roller coasters made of? Most roller coasters are made of steel and iron, but some are made of wood. Wood roller coasters often rattle and shake while steel and iron ones are more smooth and a lot of the time are faster and crazier. I prefer steel roller coasters because they have loops and corkscrews.

Safe? There is a debate whether roller coasters are safe or not. Every roller coaster ever made has risks of riding. Most roller coasters have a safety system that stops the cart if something goes wrong with the cart, or if the buckles fail and don’t protect the passenger. There is a question. Are roller coasters getting too extreme?

What is the fastest roller coaster? Kingda Ka at Six Flags New Jersey better lose the king part because there is a new fastest roller coaster with a top speed of 140 mph and riders feeling 4.5gs...Formula Rossa, Formula Rossa is at Ferrari Park in Abu Dhabi. Formula Rossa is sometimes called the F1 coaster

because the cart looks like a formula 1 race car. Formula

What Is Dyslexia? Dyslexia is a disability that means your brain works differently. Dyslexia is not just a

disability; it’s a language based learning disability that affects mostly reading. Students experience difficulty with spelling, writing and pronouncing words. Dyslexia runs in families. Statistics show 1 in every 7 people has dyslexia.

Famous People with Dyslexia Bruce Jenner, Olympic Gold Medalist, was quoted by ESPN, “If I was not dyslexic I

wouldn’t have won the Games. If I had been a better reader, then that would have come easily [and] sports would have come easily. And I never would have realized that they way you get ahead in life is hard work.’’ Dyslexia occurs in people of all backgrounds and intellectual levels. People who are very bright can be dyslexia. They are often capable or even gifted in areas that do not require strong language skills, such as art, computer science, design, drama, electronics, math, mechanics, music, physics, sales, and sports

Other famous people had dyslexia including Thomas Edison, Albert

Einstein.

Albert Einstein

Thomas Edison was creative because he invented the lightbulb. It’s just like Rick Riordan, author or The Percy Jackson series, said, “Dyslexic kids are creative, ‘outsidethebox’ thinkers. They have to be, because they don’t see or solve problems the way other kids do. In school, unfortunately, they are sometimes written off as lazy, unmotivated, rude or even stupid. They aren’t. Making Percy dyslexic was my way of honoring the potential of all the kids I’ve known who have those conditions. It’s not a bad thing to be different. Sometimes, it’s the mark of being very, very, talented.’’

My opinion is you’d rather have dyslexia than some other disabilities. I think that because dyslexia is not always that bad. I know this because I have dyslexia. I’ve learned strategies to make myself a better reader and with other things I do. Some strategies for reading are to: read a lot, read slowly, break apart words into chunks and read out loud. A strategy you can use for writing is to take your time with handwriting, because if I’d written this by hand you wouldn’t be able to read it.
