Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 1, 2015 Mass Intentions - 2015 The Mass Intention Book for 2015 is open. You might like to remember the birthday or anniversary of your living loved ones, as well as the deceased. Mass stipends are $10 each. Please stop by the Rectory office, or call the office at 226-5116 Monday thru Friday. The people were astonished at His teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and said, “Quiet! Come out of him!” Mark 1: 21-28 Today’s Gospel portrays Jesus as a teacher who possesses an “authority” readily perceived by His hearers. Such an authority comes not from the power to enforce, but from the ability to inspire. The authority of Jesus is centered in compassion and empathy for those He has been called to serve. May we seek to possess the authority of the Gospel Jesus: to become men and women of empathy, compassion and selflessness for those we are called to teach, to guide and serve. As Jesus casts out the “unclean spirit” from the poor man through a word of compassion, we are reminded that there are “unclean spirits” and “demons” all around us - and within ourselves - that can be cast out by an act of kindness or generosity, that can be silenced by a word of justice, that can be transformed by what is right and good. In our own acts of compassion and generosity, may we speak with the voice of Christ to “drive out” the unclean spirits that “possess” our minds and hearts that “dispossess” us of the things of God. To cast out such “demons” is not easy - it means refocusing our attention from what is missing in our lives to what we have, from lamenting our regrets and disappointments to finding meaning in what we can do for others. “Unclean spirits” of anger, fear and hurt can “possess” all of us - but by His grace, God enables us to cast out the “demons” that isolate us, that mire us in fear and selfishness; that blind us to the love of God in our midst, and discover, instead, purpose in doing for others and meaning in being the means for God’s healing and hope. Mass Intentions - 2015

The Mass Intention Book for 2015 is open.

Come out of him!” Mark 1: 21-28

Today’s Gospel portrays Jesus as a teacher who possesses an “authority” readily perceived by His hearers.

To cast out such “demons” is not easy - it

means refocusing our attention from what is missing in

our lives to what we have, from lamenting our regrets

and disappointments to finding meaning in what we

can do for others. “Unclean spirits” of anger, fear and

hurt can “possess” all of us - but by His grace, God

enables us to cast out the “demons” that isolate us, that

mire us in fear and selfishness; that blind us to the love

of God in our midst, and discover, instead, purpose in

doing for others and meaning in being the means for

God’s healing and hope.

Praesidium - Called to Protect

We will implement the Called to Protect program to enhance the ongoing efforts of the Diocese of Cleveland to provide training for adults and children in matters of protection from abuse and creation of safe environments. Called to Protect is a multi-media training program created by Praesidium, a national leader in risk management. The Called to Protect series presents current abuse prevention information to parents, children, youth and young adults. Called to Protect Youth - teaches 6th grade through high school students about boundaries, how to respond if someone violates their boundaries, and how to tell their parents if they or a friend have been abused. This program will be offered in two parts. Part I on Monday, February

2nd, 7pm-8:30pm and Part II on Monday, February 9th, 7pm-8:30pm, both taking place at the Saint Clement Church Hall. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend with their child, but not required. If a student has participated in this program in the past, it is not necessary to attend again. Called to Protect for Young Children - teaches age appropriate information to children in kindergarten through 5th grade. They learn rules about protecting their bodies and what to do if someone tries to break the rules. This program will be offered on Monday, February 23rd, at 7pm at the Saint Clement Church Hall. Parents are required to attend with their children. Called to Protect does not replace the Virtus training program. For more information, please call Colleen at 216-226-5116.
