“We need a spirit of holiness capable of filling both our solitude and our service, our personal life and our evangelizing efforts, so that every moment can be an

expression of self-sacrificing love in the Lord’s eyes. In this way, every minute of our lives can be a step along the path to growth in holiness.” Guadate et Exsultate (“On the Call to Holiness in Today’s World”), 31 Last Saturday, Febraury 22nd, the Parish Pastoral Council and the Finance Committee of our Family gathered together to meet with some of the Leadership of our Diocese, namely Father John Comiskey, Joe Bezzina and Dave Savel. They came to the Family to discuss how we are doing as a Family and to discuss future growth and how best to deal with ongoing needs. We found the discussion on the ways that we are evangelizing and serving the needs of our parishioners exciting but at the same time we were confronted with our own limitations. As in any newly formed family there is always room for growth and new awareness. I would like to thank the members of these two Family Committees for their dedicated service. It was edifying to see so many come to the celebration of Ash Wednesday and begin the journey to the celebration of Easter. In spite of the weather we came together to formally initiate this Penitential Time. Make this time a renewing time of reconciliation and prayer. I read on Facebook a practice called the “40 Day Challenge”. It said that each day of Lent to take an item from your home that you no longer need and put it in a bag and at the end of Lent take the forty items that you have put aside and donate these to a Homeless Shelter or to St. Vincent de Paul. The things that you no longer need will be used by those who will appreciate them. Just an idea. I have been asked to recruit some individuals in our Family to volunteer as Auditors for the Marriage Tribunal. The task that would be given to selected volunteers would be to take testimony of people who will serve as witnesses for a person having made an application for Annulment. The people who volunteer will be interviewed by me and then trained to do the work well. If you have some time on your hands or would like to assist in this work please call me or email me. During the Season of God’s people do not sing the Alleluia or the Gloria until the believing community has undergone conversion and is ready to sing this chant with renewed meaning during the Easter Vigil.

FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT Overcoming temptation

Reading I Genesis 2: 7-9; 3: 1-7 (the fall of humankind) Reading II Romans 5: 12-19 (humanity’s sin through Adam) Gospel Matthew 4: 1-11 (the temptation of Jesus) Key Passage: Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (Matthew 4: 1)

Adult: What helpful advice could you offer someone faced with a temptation?

Child: What helps you do the right thing when you want to do something wrong?

CHATHAM CATHOLIC FAMILY OF PARISH MASS INTENTIONS

Mass intentions are very important to us and we would like to be able to enter all of them for everyone but unfortunately we can't. When we receive Mass intention requests from a funeral home we only enter six for each deceased person and then the rest are sent on to the Diocese of London so that they can send them on to priests who don't have any. That way they can be said as soon as possible. If you come in to either parish office and have Mass intentions you would like said, we will only be accepting six Mass Intentions from you. Whether that be six Mass Intentions for one person or for six individual people. Anything above this we can certainly take but they will be sent on to the Diocese of London. We appreciate your cooperation with this. By using this method, the Mass Intentions you request will be said in a more expedient way.

CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS Daylight savings time begins on March 8. Don’t forget to spring ahead one hour on your clocks.

OFFICE CLOSED Wednesday, March 4 the offices will be closed from 9:00 - 11:00 am for the staff and team meeting. Then also from 11:30 am - 1 pm for staff lunch.

CHURCH CHUCKLE Visiting his parents’ retirement village in Florida, my middle-aged friend, Joe, went for a swim in the community pool while his elderly father took a walk. Tim struck up a conversation with the only other

person in the pool, a five-year-old boy. After a while, Tim’s father returned from his walk and called out, “I’m ready to leave.”

Tim then turned to his new friend and announced that he had to leave because his father was calling. Astonished, the wide-eyed little boy cried, “You’re a kid?”

Congratulations to

Theodore Genge, Thomas Comiskey, Megan Carroll, Gwen Carroll, Noah Martin and Hadley Chartier

who joined our parish family through the Sacrament of Baptism during the month of February.

May they always live out their call to discipleship.
