From the Pastor’s Desk

The final days of Advent are upon us, and the Christmas season is almost here. We are grateful for the graces received over these last few weeks, and we look forward to what the Lord has in store for us during Christmas and the New Year. One of the most obvious ways the Lord blesses us during these holy days is through the liturgies we celebrate: the Solemnity of the Lord’s Birth is Wednesday; the Feast of the Holy Family is next weekend; the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God is January 1; the Feast of the Epiphany is the following weekend; and the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord is the weekend after that. These beautiful celebrations keep our fixed on the true reason for our joy this time of year, and we come to an even deeper appreciation of the gift we have in Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. They were received coldly in Bethlehem, but there is room for them in our heart, home, and church. May the Lord bless you richly at Christmas!

Los últimos días de Adviento ya están encima, y el tiempo de Navidad ya casi ha llegado. Nos sentimos agradecidos por las gracias recibidas en estas últimas semanas, y esperamos con ansia lo que el Señor nos tiene reservado durante la Navidad y el Año Nuevo. Una de las maneras más obvias en que el Señor nos bendice durante estos días santos son las liturgias que celebramos: la Solemnidad del Nacimiento del Señor este miércoles; la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia, el próximo fin de semana; la Solemnidad de María, la Madre de Dios, el 1 de enero; la fiesta de la Epifanía, fin de semana siguiente; y la fiesta del Bautismo del Señor, una semana después de eso. Estas hermosas celebraciones reavivan la auténtica razón de nuestra alegría en esta época dela ano, haciéndonos apreciar aún más profundamente el don que son para nosotros Jesús, María y José. Ellos fueron recibidos con frialdad en Belén, pero en nuestro corazón, en nuestro hogar y en la iglesia hay sitio para ellos.

There will be no Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament this Friday, December 27. We will resume Adoration on Friday, January 3. January 1 is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God – a holy day of obligation! We will have Vigil Masses on Tuesday, December 31,

at 4:00 p.m. (English) and 6:00 p.m. (Spanish). We will have Masses on Wednesday, January 1, at 9:00 a.m. (English) and 7:00 p.m. (Spanish). Please join us as we honor Our Lady and usher in a New Year with prayer. Registration for the The Next Step is now open! Starting in January, Christ the King is launching a new event called The Next Step taking place every other week. Come experience an engaging

presentation and enjoy friendly conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. Whether you'd like to explore the next step in your faith journey or are interested in connecting with others, discover what The Next Step is like by attending the launch event on Wednesday, January 8,

Christ the King Women’s Club is organizing its annual Women’s Retreat. It will take place at St. Therese’s Retreat Center the

Adele Sheffieck will give reflections based on our theme: “Lord, You Are the Center of Our Lives.” This is an opportunity for us to grow in our faith and enjoy fellowship with parish friends. Christ the King raised

more than $2,400 during Respect Life Month. Because of the generosity of our parish, 24 women will receive a life-changing, life-saving ultrasound, giving them a unique look at the miracle of life within them. This is great perfect news, especially during Christmas as we are reflecting upon Mary and Joseph and the birth of their Son. Thank you to all who participated in PDHC’s Baby Bottle Campaign.

A quick note about financial stewardship: If you have not done so,

please turn in your Offertory Commitment Form to the office. This form is a way of discerning very intentionally how you can support the parish financially in 2020. It also helps our pastor and finance committee form next year’s budget. Also, donations for the 2019 tax year must be received before 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 2. We will provide contribution statements to those who request them throughout the month of January. Thank you for ongoing generosity toward Christ the King Church!
