We will keep you posted as next Sunday might finally be the time when Public Masses may resume according to these new guidelines. I ask your patience as we will figure out a safe sys- tem to implement them. Meanwhile, follow us on YouTube and Flock-note and I will update you on our initiatives. This Sunday is dedicated to Jesus as the Good Shepherd, and this text speaks of the relationship between Jesus, the flock, and the Father who enters into this relationship offering his own life for our eternal happiness. In the first reading there is a turn of events: Paul an- nounces the Good News and many follow him, but others reject and aggressively oppose him, not allowing him to speak, to the point that Paul and Barnabas flee to Pisidia. Paul tells them: Since you do not want us, we will go to the pagans ”. Paul finds out the hard way that there are people who welcome the Word and others who refuse it. This dynamic helps us to understand what Christianity is all about. In the Gospel, Jesus describes the relationship with his own flock in these terms: My own sheep welcome my word, they listen to me and [therefore] they follow me”. Why do we follow Christ? Because two things happen: 1) people feel known”, or, for lack of a better term, understoodby Christ and 2) the spoken Word enters the heart of the one who listens. Jesus does not establish a relationship based on rules or policies and structures, but on the fact that one feels that he/she is known by Christ, understood by Christ, and feels that voice enter his heart, a voice that resounds in the depths of the intimate heart of each man. We do not follow Christ because we must follow him, but because we are drawn by the beauty of his voice. Christ guides the people through a spoken Word which has the power to enter the heart of each man. In todays understanding of the Church, we must be careful not to think that good structures or good policies come before this Word. Christianity was not born from a good plan or a good idea, but from a Word that has entered the heart of man – because we do things according to what we are. We act according to the engine we have. Receiving our identity from the Word gives us true identity, which becomes the power of the Father that makes us follow Christ. I follow Christ not because of a moral duty, but because I cannot but desire to be with the Father. In this sense, the moral life is a consequence of this new identity given to us by the Father. The contrary does not take us anywhere. The problem for all of us is to receive from the Church the true water, the true bread that comes from heaven. If this hap- pens, people will follow.

PASTOR’S PAGE

Dear Brothers and Sisters, as the Governor is relaxing some of the restrictions, also the Archdiocese is working on new guidelines that will help us transition to more public Masses. We will keep you posted as next Sunday might finally be the time when Public Masses may resume according to these new guidelines. I ask your patience as we will figure out a safe sys-tem to implement them. Meanwhile, follow us on YouTube and Flock-note and I will update

you on our initiatives. This Sunday is dedicated to Jesus as the Good Shepherd,

and this text speaks of the relationship between Jesus, the flock, and the Father who enters into this relationship offering his own life for our eternal happiness.

In the first reading there is a turn of events: Paul an-nounces the Good News and many follow him, but others reject and aggressively oppose him, not allowing him to speak, to the point that Paul and Barnabas flee to Pisidia. Paul tells them: “Since you do not want us, we will go to the pagans”. Paul finds out the hard way that there are people who welcome the Word and others who refuse it. This dynamic helps us to understand what Christianity is all about.

In the Gospel, Jesus describes the relationship with his own flock in these terms: “My own sheep welcome my word, they listen to me and [therefore] they follow me”. Why do we follow Christ? Because two things happen: 1) people feel “known”, or, for lack of a better term, “understood” by Christ and 2) the spoken Word enters the heart of the one who listens.

In today’s understanding of the Church, we must be careful not to think that good structures or good policies come before this Word. Christianity was not born from a good plan or a good idea, but from a Word that has entered the heart of man – because we do things according to what we are. We act according to the engine we have. 5:30pm Mother’s Day Novena

Saint Louis, King of France Parish Englewood, Colorado May 3rd, 2020

In this time of pandemic, civil society has told us how to keep our body safe, even leading us to believe that certain “shops” are more essential than others. I am still puzzled by the fact that some “shops” have been considered essential and the Church is still restricted.

My dear brothers and sisters, if there is one thing that this pandemic is revealing it is that life is uncertain and only one thing is eternal and essential, and that is the Word of the Father, the true and essential food offered to us by the Good Shepherd. He is the only one who can give us the true food that can satisfy the hunger that we have in our hearts. If our spirit is fed by the Word, our body too, though out of shape at times, or even threat-ened by a virus, will not suffer fear! Courage! Let us raise our eyes to Heaven, like St. Stephen, the first Martyr, who despising his life out of Love for the Father, offered his body out of love for his enemies, like our Good Shepherd, Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Please mail your Mother’s Day Novena Intentions to St. Louis Church 3310 South Sherman Street Englewood, CO 80113 so we can place them on the altar at each mass during the novena.
