"I contacted the Los Angeles board of education several weeks ago and was toM that It has no funds available to keep the play grounds open here this summer," Mayor Tolson said. "I also got
same excuse as in past years our schedule has al ready been made up. Some times I wonder when you have to put in your bid for such a project. The school board claims there is not enough demand for summer playgrounds here."
No action was taken by the council on the matter, other than to report the Mayor's find ings back to the Legion post.

To Remove Sign Renewal of the contract with
the South Bay Humane Society to furnish the city with pound and dog license collection service was authorized. The Society's fee is what it collects from the dog license sale which will begin July 1 for the current year. Last year the Society Impounded 759 animals found roaming Torrance streets 388 dogs, 365 cats, three goats, two horses and a lone turtle, according to Bernice Davidson, secretary.
