    KEY FINDINGSThis booklet is designed to provide a statistical overview ofFP6 Co-operative and Collective Research projects. As you

    fi"}}D"\}}"\y"z}}"y"}\y{"}}""z\"initiatives. There were over 40 000 total participants fromK"QLO"y"z}|"~"y"y{"]}F"g~"\}D"approximately 4 000 participants from 397 projects in Co-operative Research and 2 000 participants from 80 projectsin Collective Research were selected.

    SMEs are more indirect and the participants involved in aCollective research project are different. The R&D performers|}y}"{}{"y|"}{\{y"}}y{\"y{}""behalf of Industrial Associations or Groupings in order toexpand the knowledge base of large communities of SMEsand thus improve their general standard of competitiveness.These projects are larger and run longer than Co-operativeresearch projects. They run from two to three years. TheIndustrial Associations/Groupings retain the ownership of theresults. Collective Research Projects may address any subjecty{"\}"fi\}"}|"~"{}{}F"Y"]}Efi|}"y}D"

    these projects aim for example to:Reinforce the technological basis of sectors;Develop technological tools such as diagnostic methodsand safety equipment;^|"""{"{\y}}"{\"y"~"}}}D"y{\}"fiy{}"y~}"y|y|"and;Carry out pre-normative research to help set]}y!"y|"y|y|F

    FP6 allocated a total ofIMH"""[}{}"}{D"with individual project budgets ranging between 2 and M"million each.
