8th Sunday after Pentecost August 4th, 2019 From the Desk of the Pastor…
Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory Forever!
“The love we show to her is a reflection of the love we have for Him.” This couplet
summarizes our theology of the Mother of God, Mary our spiritual mother. Now that
we are in the Dormition Fast we have to prepare ourselves for this great feast, August.
15th. We fast during this time (abstain from meat), we pray and we also ponder God’s
marvelous providence at work in the single life of a little girl.
Think of the respect the Jews of old showed toward the Ark of the Covenant. Uzzah
was killed by the divine hand simply for touching the Ark of the Covenant. Yet, that
Ark of the Covenant was made of mere wood (Acacia wood). As an aside, the Ark of
the Covenant is not the same thing as Noah’s Ark. The Ark of the Covenant was a
wooden box used to hold a) the jar of manna, b) the tablets of the Law and c) the rod
of Aaron. Now, if that wooden box was so precious in God’s eyes that he smote Uzzah
for touching it, how much more important must be the real Ark of the Covenant! The
old wooden Ark of the Covenant was a preliminary sign to point people toward an
understanding of Mary, the Holy Theotokos. God had designed a perfect woman who,
unlike Eve, would follow His will in obedience and adoration, “May it be done unto
me according to thy word.” This perfectly designed new ark would not corrupt as wood
corrupts, in fact this new ark would never see corruption. That is the purpose of this
ancient feast we are preparing to celebrate: God is so incredibly faithful to those who
are faithful to Him that even in the smallest details He vindicates them, restores them
and magnifies them. Thus, Mary never saw the corruption of her flesh, but was taken
up into heaven. Do you think that He will somehow forget you in your need? Never!
To help us all better understand our Bible and the role Mary can play in your life as
your spiritual mother, I wish to share on the following page some of these important
comparisons between the Old and New Testaments. God loves you and me. He is
sparing no “expense” to save our souls. Not only has He given us His Son, but He has
given us the Blessed Virgin Mary as a mother, as an advocate and intercessor, much
like Solomon’s mother was for the people of Israel (1 kings 2:19). Have you taken her
into your home as Mother (Jn 19:26)? Do it and the demons will flee!
In Christ,
Jason, priest and sinner.

Gospel for the 8th Sunday after Pentecost (Matthew 14:14-22)
14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for
them, and healed their sick. 15 When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a
deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the
villages and buy themselves food.”
16 But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17 And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.”
18 He said, “Bring them here to Me.” 19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass.
And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and
gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were
filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21 Now those who had
eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.22 Immediately Jesus [a]made His
disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.
