Fractures
What is fracture? Fracture is a
broken bone as a result of excess pressure
Types of fractures
compound fracture Oblique fracture Impacted fracture Greenstick fracture Transverse fracture Comminuted
fracture Simple fracture Spiral fracture
Oblique fracture
This is a fracture in the line of break runs obliquely to the axis of the bone
Causes of oblique fracture An oblique fracture is caused by a
twisting force to the long axis of the bone and causes fracture along shear line
Compound fracture
This is a type of fracture in which the bone is sticking through the skin.
A compound fracture is also known as open fracture.
Compound fracture
Risk of compound fractureTreatment of compound fracture
Because compound fractures are open injuries to the outside world, there is significant risk of developing an infection around the fracture
Compound fracture are generally treated with surgery to clean the site of injury and stabilized the fracture
Impacted fracture
This is a type of fracture in which the opposite sides of the broken bone are compressed together.
Impacted fractures are commonly associated with hip fractures and fractures that occur when a person attempts to break a fall with outstretched arms
Symptom of impacted fracture Pain is the most obvious symptom of
impacted fracture. The pain can be excruciating depending upon the extent of the impacted fracture.
Diagnosis
X-ray is the most common tool for diagnosing fractured bones.
In case of impacted fracture, an MRI or CT scan may provide more detailed images of the several broken fragments
Treatment
Once the location and the extent of the fracture is detected, appropriate bone bruise treatment can be initiated.
