Frame Class

If you are using a tri-fold you'll need to cut the 3 frames apart, just use a brand new blade in your

exacto knife.

Supplies:

*2-3 colors of your choice ie (girl-bubblegum and sunny yellow), (boy-outdoor denim, hollyhock and goldrush)

*Chocolate ink or brown bag to antique

*Exacto knife*Brads, eyelets and other accessories(ie I have some metal hearts, metal letters, book plates,

snaps…)

*Waxy flax

*Coordinating ribbon for the boy or girl frame*Background stamp (ie poetry in motion or the swirl stamp or a phrase set like Kid power, I also

used the word "sweet" from the Celebrating Life set. I just cut it apart from the bee.

*2 coordinating B&T papers-I'd go with something from the scrapbook kits and not our regular

B&T. I used paper from the new Independence Day paper. But Vintage travel, outdoor paper, the

road trip paper, etc… will all work great.

*Waterbrush*Sandpaper

*Modge Podge

*Scissors*Eyelet hammer

*Glue dots

*Straight edge or ruler *Embossing stylus

Things to do ahead of time (bold)

1. Pick out your stamps.

2. Pick out your ink colors

3. Pick out your B& T paper.

4. Cut your paper

a. For the paper you'll be using cut 1" larger than the whole frame on the sides and only ½" larger

for the bottom. For example if the frame (in landscape position) as a whole (this is not actuallywhat it is since I don't have one in front of me) is 4x6, you'll cut your bottom paper 4 ½ x 7.

 b. For the paper you'll be using on the top you'll cut it 1" extra for the sides and measure from the

outside edge of where the picture will go to the top and then add an ½". For example if the space

I want to cover is 1x6 then I'll cut my paper 1 ½ x 7.

c. If you are using the tri-fold frame and not a rectangular frame then measure for the top portion,

from the center to the tip of the triangle for the length. So if that is 3" then you'd cut your paper 3

½ x whatever the width is. Does this make any sense?

5. Get all the accessories that you want bought or organized.

Frame #1-stamping

*Basically you'll be doing direct to paper (in this case frame) distressing.

*A light touch is necessary and so is a reinked pad-wet but not juicy. If you want the frame to

have lines on it like the boy frame just press harder.

*I'll describe for the girl frame and then point out differences for the boy frame if that's what you

are doing.

1. Start with your lightest color and very lightly brush the ink pad across the front of the frame.

2. Go to your darker color and do the same thing.

3. If you want to soften the colors use your waterbrush or sandpaper.

4. Stamp your background stamp randomly in the darker color.

5. Fill in empty spots with your little word stamps.

6. Using the lighter ink take the edge of the pad and rub it on the edge of the frame and on the

inside edge to define.

7. The things holding the ribbon are brads with little loops on them I got it at the local scrapbook

store.

8. To attach brads to the frame

a. Take your scissors or exacto knife and place the tip where you want the brad to go.

 b. Using the eyelet hammer pound until it goes through. The exacto knife works better especially

if it is sharp.

c. Place brads as usual.

9. Then tie your ribbon on and your ready to hang. The length of the ribbon is up to you.

10. To attach bookplate or snaps or accessories like the heart.

a. Just pound them in with a hammer. They will stick.

11. To attach metal letters

a. You can use either glue dot's or metal glue.

The difference with the "boy" frame:

1. I pressed harder to get the lines.

2. I used a lot of brown bag ink. It's what I used on the edges. I also sanded a lot more.

3. I used the "boys will be boys" stamp from Kid Power and stamped that in my darkest color.

Then I used snaps to accent the phrase.

4. To attach the ribbon I just glue dotted it to the inside of the frame. I put the glue dots on theribbon and then just pressed the frame open and applied.

Frame #2 Paper Covered Frame.

Hopefully you have everything cut out. That is the hard part.

1. Choose and cut out your paper.

2. Take your bottom B&T and center it over the middle of the frame. You'll be covering up the

center where the picture is. Place it so that the top of the paper hits the top of the frame. Glue in place. Using Modge Podge you can glue it directly on. I'd brush the glue onto the frame not on

the paper

3. On the bottom cut the corners off so the paper will fold over nicely. If you've done covered

journals you'll know what I'm talking about.

4. Fold the sides and bottom of the paper over the edges of the frame and glue.

5. Using an embossing stylus find the edges of where the picture goes. And press, this will act as

a guide for the next step. If you don't have an embossing stylus then just find the edges with your finger and go to the next step.

6. Using your exacto knife cut into the top corner to mark where they are and then do the same

for the bottom corner.

7. Using a straight edge or ruler line up your marks and using the exacto knife cut your paper.

Once you get that center part cut out you can trim as necessary. If your blade is sharp it will look very nice.

8. Now to do the top portion. Make sure that the bottom edge lines up with the top of where the

 picture is.

9. Fold the top of the paper over the top of the frame. And glue down

10. Using the exacto knife cut open the slit where the picture goes in.

11. To finish add whatever accessories that you like. I added an eyelet heart which I just banged

in with the hammer and waxy flax that I colored red white and blue. You can do anything.

12. I also used brown bag ink and distressed the edges and paper a little.

Variations. Instead of straight cutting you can tear the paper to fit. I did that with the VintageTravel frame I made for my hubby. The only part I measured for that was the black paper on the

top. Everything else I just lined up straight edges on the bottom and sides and tore to fit. I alsoadded fuzzy ribbon and bookplates.
