The French Independence Day‘Bastille Day’ 14th July

Why 14th July is celebrated as ‘Bastille Day’ ?

On that day in 1789, the Paris mob, angered by food shortages and the soaring price of bread, stormed the city’s royal fortress

called the Bastille and set the prisoners free. The prison cells in the dungeons of the Bastille prison were the symbol of the

injustices of royal rule. From this day Bastille day is celebrated on 14th July .

The motto “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité” that is “ Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” was originated from the French Revolution and became the symbol of

the French Republic.

How is la Fête Nationale celebrated?

The national holiday is important to all French people, and each town has its own special

celebrations throughout the day, ending late at night with public balls in the street and

traditional fireworks displays.
