•Nicknamed, “The Swamp Fox”

•Considered to be one of the inventors of guerrilla warfare
•A patriot during the Revolutionary War
•Defended Fort Moultrie and Fort Sullivan in SC

•Uses hit-and-run tactics
•Involves the use of ambushes and raids
•Guerrilla stands for “little war”
•Troops are often made up of armed civilians
“The Swamp Fox” •Marion and his troops would
hide in the swamps of SC and fight the British using guerrilla warfare tactics
•They would lead the British soldiers into the swamps where many of them would get lost
•He earned his nickname because Banastre Tarleton once said that it was almost impossible to catch “the swamp fox”
