Red Horse, Watercolours, 140 x 225 cm
Franco Giomi is an artist born in Maremma,
an enchanting area of Southern Tuscany,
where he currently works and lives
Giomi is a self-taught artist who does enjoy
all different painting techniques but who
has undoubtedly a special inclination for
the watercolors technique.
Giomi’s watercolors paintings offer very
contemporary figurative representations;
he loves painting on huge canvases
while usually this technique prefers small-
medium size formats.
His narratives deal with notions of strength,
freedom, elegance and the indomitable
potency of nature: the wild Maremma
(homeland of the artist), emblematic
women, the rugged force of the sea are
Giomi’s favourite ‘muse’.
Giomi’s scenes are never still, more a
fragment of some longer story he wants
to tell us: the movement and action are
created by the predominance of white
painted over underlying spots of color on
oversized canvas.

watercolor functions as performing

‘Giomi depicts curvy and attractive women without any
mawkishness or sensuous mannerism, each image is
instead a marvelous imaginative representation that the
artist grabs and describes in a very accomplished and
enchanting way.’

“..Giomi’s work is poetry of watercolours
wisely blended that reveal in some languid
backgrounds the curious release of the
figurative in favour of a more introspective
narrative capable of evoking true emotions
rather than depicting the factual reality.”
