2019 HighlightARTS LAB LAUNCHES: We’re measuring teaching artists’ impact on student learning and chronic absenteeism by using the arts intentionally to improve student engagement. The Lab combines 4 teaching artist-led programs each year for 5 years:

• Monthly performance• 12-day Dance to Learn or Theater to Learn

residency• Creativity Consultant Professional Learning• Family Arts and Creativity

We partner with two schools: Wilson Elementary School in Hamilton, funded with a $300,000 grant from Princeton Area Community Foundation’s All Kids Thrive Initiative; and Silver Bay Elementary School in Toms River, funded with a $300,000 grant from the Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation.

45th Anniversary Campaign

Having YA teaching artists at our school is my favorite week of the year. I love seeing some students, for whom academics are really hard, completely shine with a new skill, helping change the teacher perspective on that student’s strengths.Dyan Branstetter, Teacher, Brecht Elementary School, Lancaster, PA

December 2018 marked the successful completion of our 45th

A first grader spoke in front of her

classmates for the first time during a

storytelling residency.

Non-binary students experienced gender-inclusive dance. Rather than pairing girls and boys, the teaching artist encouraged student to choose to be leaders or followers.

A student who is non-verbal was encouraged

to contribute to a performing arts residency

by creating visual art that became an integral

part of the final performance.
