When it comes to processing meat, knives and tools with plastichandles must be used exclusively. Handles madefrom soft plastic material hold the risk of abrasionand the finest particles can get into food. Thisproblem can be prevented if knives and tools withhard plastic handles are utilised. Nonetheless, food

can be contaminated with metal and plastic particlesdue to damage to the knife.

Unlike metal, parts made from conventional plasticscannot be detected with detectors or x-ray devices. An innovation at Friedr. Shredded meats, sometimes referred to as ‘pulled’ pork, beef, chicken and many other proteins, have become increasinglypopular all over the world. Having to shred/ pull proteinsmanually is a very laborious process, taking hours for less than100kg of product.

The SH-1 Shredder was designed to create shredded/pulledproduct ‘almost instantly’ for large restaurants, small to mediumsized meat processors, and food caterers. The SH-1 wasdesigned in the USA for the BBQ market, the Mexican shreddedproducts, as well as new RTE products. Due to the success of thelarger SH-5 and SH-50 Shredders in the States, the demand grewto create a smaller, more economical machine.

The capacity of the SH-1 machine is over 250kg per hour. TheSH-1 Shredder ‘pulls’ the meat apart, rather than cuts or grindsthe product, so the product maintains all of the moisture. Due tothe separation of the muscle fibres, there is 20 times moresurface area, so the product is able to cool down faster and wellunder chilling regulations for meat plants.
