    April 2017

    “Lizard with Red Flower”

The image was taken at a reptile zoo in South Africa. Camera Canon 5D Mark 111, lens Canon 100-400mm f 4.5-5.6. Taken at 1600 ISO, 1/640sec, f8 at 330mm.Processed in Lightroom and Photoshop. The image had an acceptance at the 2016 Sydney Harbour International Salon.

I mentioned last month that Bob Date and others in the club were going to arrange a printing service for members. That is well underway now, and the first night that we will trial it is April 26th. Our high end Epson printer will be set up in the foyer at BSL from 6.20 p.m. for this purpose. If you want an A3, A4 or A5 print you should bring your image, colour or mono, on a USB stick and we will have club printing experts on hand to print it out for you.

This will be a user pays service, and costs will be $8, $6 and $3 respec-tively. Credit card facilities will be available, so you can buy mat board and backing paper at the same time and fix up all your print competition entries in one go. Although these prices are less than you will pay else-where, especially for professional level printing, the intent of this ser-vice is to make it super convenient for members to get their printing done professionally. As this is our first time

trialling this service we ask for your patience if we get overwhelmed by the demand. We will use this first ses-sion to try to gauge how often we need to run the service, e.g. monthly, fortnightly, weekly.

I would like to remind everyone that the VAPS CONVENTION AND INTERCLUB EXHIBITION is on MAY 27 - 28 at the Frankston Campus of Monash University. It comprises :-

    * Full range of speakers and presenters* Workshops* Model shoot* Interclub exhibition of over 600 prints from clubs across Victoria* 600 plus digital images* 33 audio visual presentations* Saturday light lunch* Sunday bbq* Friday night social dinner* Saturday night awards dinner* Opportunity to meet club mem bers from across the state* A valuable learning

    Cheers,

    Terry Dyson. ¤President.

    Daytime Group

The Day group had a photoshoot to the Werribee Free Range Zoo in March which was attended by seven members. The day turned out to be quite hot, the bonus being that there were very few other visitors and viewing access was excellent. The lion cubs were the stars of the day with their interaction with their parents.

The next meeting is to be held on the 19th April in the long room at Frankston Library at 10:00 AM for a 10:30 start. For those who went to the zoo bring 6-10 images along on a memory stick to show to the rest of the group. At this meeting Bob Date will talk to us about Travel Photography. As many of you know, Bob travels extensively a few time a year to various parts of the World and the images he captures none. Hopefully we will learn a few new techniques and inspirations for our own travel.

In May we are due to go to Cape Schancke to capture some dramatic Seascapes.

All are welcome to attend the Day group and we always seem to have a good time. We alternate between having a Photoshoot and a meeting at the Library on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM, where we show some images of the previous outing and usually have a guest speaker.

The ‘Light Collective’ is a group of young fine art photographers who got together in 2014 to undertake large photographic projects that they could not do as individuals. The members are Ricardo Da Cunha (a previous guest speak-er at Frankston) Adam Williams, Ignatio Pala-cios, Luke Austin and Paul Hoelen. Check out their work by clicking here. Fascinating images and the blog makes interesting reading.
