MOVING ROOMS AGAIN

In last months club message I said that things were starting to settle

down at Ebdale, famous last words!, since then we have experienced seri-ous overcrowding, lack of car park-ing and general unease about the security around the building when leaving at night.

Taking these issue on board the club has secured NEW ROOMS for us at the Baxter Masonic lodge just down near the roundabout in Bax-ter, corner of Stotts Lane and Baxter Tooradin Road, there are many roads leading to the new location and it should be easy for everyone to get there.

We will take up residence at the Masonic Hall on 13th March.

The new hall is quite large with seating for over 100, plus a large secure carpark in the front for nearly 70 cars, the hall is air conditioned and has a large kitchen plus external area even with a BBQ.

I am sure we will settle in here quickly and be able to make this

our permanent home. There will be some change to the first week of the month when our meeting night and judging will be held on the TUESDAY, all other meeting nights will be the usual WEDNESDAY.

Just to make things clear, here are the meeting dates and location for the next few weeks.

Meeting times are 7pm for a 7.30pm start, gates to the carpark will be open from 6.30pm.

6th March Wednesday, Judging at Ebdale

13th March Wednesday, General meeting at Baxter

20th March Wednesday, General meeting at Baxter

27th March Wednesday, Special presentation at Baxter

2nd April, TUESDAY, Judging night at Baxter

If anyone is unclear on where we will meet and times please contact at the club via the website.

NOTICE BOARD

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see

them.”

Do you have Mobile Phone Images that you entered into a club competition?

Certificate IV in Photography and Photo Imaging, at Frankston Chisholm in 2019

At our last meeting in the Frankston Library Steve Strauss gave us a presentation on synchroniz-

ing our cameras to a phone or iPad. This is a useful technique you have any of the newer cameras with built in Wi-Fi, or you can get a card to use in older cameras. It is useful if you wish to transfer images to social media or email whilst on a shoot or you can use it to control your camera and use it as a remote when on a tripod, particularly if you are shooting from a low angle and have problems getting up and down like me! I think that an iPad is better than a phone for this because of the screen size. Thank you, Steve.

At this meeting I also discussed the idea of going back to Phillip Island instead of Apollo Bay

for our getaway in September due to the distances we have to travel to different sites from Apollo Bay and the amount of planning required to set a pro-gram. I have asked members to think about it and let me know what they think at our April Meeting.

This month our excursion is to Docklands to pho-tograph some modern architecture. One of our set subjects later in the year is Symmetry and modern buildings often have strong, symmetrical lines. We will travel by train from Frankston leaving at 8:34 AM.

Media ReleaseAnnouncing a stunning new initiative by the Australian Photographic Society – a very special new photographic Prize, unlike any previously seen in Australia, the opportunity for Conceptual photographers to be recognised as the best in Australia – and to win significant prize money.

The winner of the ACPP 2019 will be awarded $8,000 cash. The winner of the best entry by an APS Member will receive $2,000 cash. If the winner of the ACPP 2019 is an APS Member then that entrant will receive both cash amounts – totalling $10,000.

Membership Fees 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019

The Frankston Photographic Club has held membership fees at the current levels for the last three years. With increasing rent costs and maintenance of equipment required to ensure we can provide the best service to members there will be a slight increase in fees for the coming year. MEMBERSHIP FEES 2018/2019 1 General Full membership $65 2 Discounted Pension rate.

Note: this is only available for a full or disability pension on production of pension card and number. Seniors Card only is not eligible.

$55

3 Family membership $110 or $55 per family member, 2 per Family

4 Junior rate, 16 and under $30 In addition to the general rates members are requested to contribute $2 each night when attending the club meetings, this assists us in covering our insurance and rent costs. It is also mandatory that all members attending club meetings sign the attendance book as a record of occupancy required under our insurance and rental agreements with the building owners. Overall our club fees are low compared to other organisations, we are one of the few clubs that meets every week plus we also run courses on weekends and an Advanced Group, the Day Group is largely self-supporting through their attendance charge however regardless of attendance we still pay rental and additional costs for that group. Maintaining the club’s equipment, the printing service and ensuring that we are focused on providing the best conditions for our members is a priority. Your membership fees enable us, to continue to do that. Peter Kewley AFIAP, FAPS President
