The Honda Centre dealership was incorporated in 1965. Frankie worked there full-time from age 15. The store on Robson Street lasted 28 years and has been in Burnaby since 1993 until now. When Frankie began his road racing career, after some scrambles and trail riding, in 1968 he impressed Trev Deeley enough to add Frankie to the Yamaha team, which included Yvon DuHamel. Honda, at the time of the late 1960s and early ’70s, wasnt making a racing bike. Yamaha did, and with the support of Trev Deeley, Bob Work and Duncan Fraser, Frankie campaigned as a privateer on various Yamaha models: TA125; TD250; TR350; and, TZ750. He and Duncan made the trek to the mecca of North American motorcycle Father Franta Juhan and son Frankie Juhan have been racing, selling, sponsoring and promoting motorcycles in British Columbia for over sixty years. The story of the patriarch, Franta, began in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1938, with his first motorcycle shop. This had followed a motorcycle racing career in Europe on speedway motorcycles as well as road racing bikes that included trips to the circuits on the Isle of Man and Monza, Italy. Frantas brother, Jaroslav, was also a racer. He immigrated to Central America where he imported and raced Porsches, winning the Guatemalan 1953 Carrera de Pacifico in a 356 1500 Super. He also finished sixth in the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans. Immigrating to Canada in 1949, Franta Juhan participated in his last motorcycle road race of his career at Abbotsford Airport, circa 1955. Frankie Juhan was Canadian 250 cc champ in 1969 and Pacific Northwest American Motorcycle Association (AMA) points leader from 1972 to 1976. After the passing of Franta Juhan in 1992 Frankie carried on with the Honda Centre business that has lasted for over fifty years through several economic recessions. According to Frankie, those were tough times and you had to work in every facet of the company to make it work. I sold the bikes and parts, cleaned the shop, worked in service and took every phone call.The work has paid off with Frankie shepherding his fathers business to the present day and sponsoring others in the sport to carry on a winning tradition. Juhan family was the opening of a motorcycle shop in Vancouver. The Honda Centre dealership was incorporated in 1965. Frankie worked there full-time from age 15. The store on Robson Street lasted 28 years and has been in Burnaby since 1993 until now.

When Frankie began his road racing career, after some scrambles and trail riding, in 1968 he impressed Trev Deeley enough to add Frankie to the Yamaha team, which included Yvon DuHamel.

Honda, at the time of the late 1960s and early ’70s, wasn’t making a racing bike. Yamaha did, and with the support of Trev Deeley, Bob Work and Duncan Fraser, Frankie campaigned as a privateer on various Yamaha models: TA125; TD250; TR350; and, TZ750.

Father Franta Juhan and son Frankie Juhan have been racing, selling, sponsoring and promoting motorcycles in British Columbia for over sixty years.

Frankie Juhan was Canadian 250 cc champ in 1969 and Pacific Northwest American Motorcycle Association (AMA) points leader from 1972 to 1976.

After the passing of Franta Juhan in 1992 Frankie carried on with the Honda Centre business that has lasted for over fifty years through several economic recessions.

According to Frankie, “those were tough times and you had to work in every facet of the company to make it work. I sold the bikes and parts, cleaned the shop, worked in service and took every phone call.”

The work has paid off with Frankie shepherding his father’s business to the present day and sponsoring others in the sport to carry on a winning tradition.
