My mom and my sister went through
this when they were in college and
now I am going through the same
thing

I am going into my fourth year of college and I’ve been living off of student loans and haven’t been getting any public assistance.
Supporting Point One: challenge government

By challenging our government's view of public assistance for students, we can ensure a better future for all of us
To be eligible for public assistance or food stamps, a
student must work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

With all the hours a student must dedicate to class and study time, being a student becomes a full time job!

Call to Action: Put together a petition to take to the public aid office
Students not only have to save money to cover basic living expenses, they also have to consider saving for loan
repayment. Some students also have the obligation of paying interest on their loans while they are still in school.

Students already have plenty of expenses. A non traditional student that doesn’t go to a school where they can live on
campus must cover bills, on top of school financial obligations like books and tuition.

Nutrition plays a part in a students ability to concentrate on function properly. Having to worry about where the
next meal may come from should not be one more added stressor to a student’s life.

Students are part of a demographic of people that are trying to take steps towards bettering their lives and
making contributions to society. Dependency for students of public assistance programs is assumed to not be
indefinite.

Let’s take a different look at what the definition of public assistance is! Who
should it be for? Perhaps a specialized program
should be developed for students in need.

There are programs for low income families, students with dependents, and veterans. Programs like WIC allow certain foods up to a certain amount be purchased every month. SImilar guidlines could be applied to a student assistance
program.

This country was built on the notion that hard work and education can get you to the next level. Without the
collaboration of other students with similar views in similar need, how can we expect and further attention or action to
take place?

There are a lot of college students that are struggling. College offers them
the opportunity to work towards a career, and essentially a better life.

There is so much money being put into things that have little importance. Why cant college students get the help that they deserve?
