Everybody’s Talking!Anonymous winner: When someone wins a lottery, it’scommon for pictures of the lucky person to be taken and pub-licized. But a Jamaican woman decided she didn’t want to berecognized after she won $1.4 million (USD) in a lottery.During the presentation of her large check, the woman, knownas N. Gray, donned an enormous, round, yellow, smiling emojimask, complete with a winking eye. There is no way anyonewould ever recognize her! The woman, who won the money ina Super Lotto game, told organizers that she plans to carry onwith life as usual. She won’t quit her job, but she may go on acruise just for fun.Saving the child: A brave ex-soldier from Huaihua, HunanProvince (China), completed a daring civilian rescue after hesaw a child in danger on a fifth floor window of an apartmentcomplex. Zhang Xin used window grill bars to climb to thechild, who was dangling precariously, while worried onlookerswatched from below. Some of the onlookers managed to get atarp in place beneath him in case he fell, but he didn’t! Uponreaching the fifth floor, he managed to push the crying toddlerback into the apartment. Furry baby: When fully grown, a bear is unlikely to be mistakenfor a dog. But what about when they are babies? A man fromYongsheng County, Yunnan Province (China), did just that. When he was out looking for wild mushrooms, he came across alittle puppy, or so he thought. He took the pup home andlooked after it, but must have realized something was amisswhen the puppy grew into a very large Asian bear, which is aprotected species. The man kept the bear in a cage, but tookgood care of it. Someone reported him, and authorities claimedthe bear. The man was not fined because he was cooperativeand the bear was in good health.Escaped pigs: A security camera revealed that, in the middle ofthe night, two pigs appeared at a gas station in Upper Coomera,Queensland (Australia). When the sun came up, the porky beastsgreeted amused customers and staff, many of whom took photos. The pigs spent several hours checking out people and cars. They also enjoyed rutting around in a garden before taking anap. It turns out that the friendly, but mischievous, pair had gottenaway from their owner’s home, located not far from the gasstation. The owner soon arrived on the scene to pick up thetwo curly-tailed beasts.

Everybody’s Talking!Cat handbags: A woman in Japan, known as Pico, designshandbags that look like real cats. Using faux fur, a handbagmight appear to be a pure white kitten, a black and white catabout to pounce, or a green-eyed grey feline that wants tocuddle. One of Pico’s creations is a knapsack which, on thewearer’s back, looks like a house cat on its haunches clawingat a screen door. Pico’s work became known on social media, but she makes them in limited numbers because she is busyraising her young children.Car museum: Many famous automobiles have appeared inmovies over the years. Anyone with a hankering to see theirfavorite movie vehicle can visit the Celebrity Car Museum inBranson, Missouri (U.S.). More than 100 such cars are collectedthere, from the Ford Explorer in Jurassic Park to theFlintstone’s granite car to the Batmobile from the 1966 TVseries. The museum is the brainchild of the Velvet family, whohave been car collectors for years. Displays change because thefamily regularly buys and sells cars. Visitors are welcome topretend to be a movie star behind the wheel.Body art: Born in Italy, Johannes Stötter is an artist who isan impressive body painter. He uses human models as hiscanvas and creates realistic looking animals, insects, reptiles, fish, and more. As the models can’t stay in place indefinitely,he takes photos of the finished work. Often, it’s difficult to tellthere is a human being (or two) in the photo. For example, hepainted two models to look like a crocodile. He painted onecurled-up model to look like a beautiful butterfly. Two models, one on top of the other, appear to be a scaly lizard. Asidefrom his painting, Stötter is also a trained musician.Crazy furniture: A furniture maker from Auckland, NewZealand, has found a way to make his creations unique. HenkVerhoeff uses his carpentry skills to design and make furniturethat looks like it’s warped or cracked – but it is not. In reality, every drawer opens perfectly on a dresser that appears to becrooked and broken, and a hole in the door of a side table iscamouflage for miniature shelves on the inside. It is quite afeat for Verhoeff to accurately cut the angles so the movingparts work properly. Verhoeff’s work became known when hisdaughter posted some images on social media.
