Get set, Bandon, for the first monthly Alive AfterFive Art Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 21.Bandon’s galleries are joining up with participatingBandon merchants to welcome both residentsand tourists to explore all that the community hasto offer. The Greater Bandon Association’s events and

promotions committee views this as anotheropportunity for organizations in Bandon to collab-orate their activities and at the same time createanother fun experience for young and old alike.

GBA coordinator Harv Schubothe has beenworking with a group of artists and galleries tointroduce an art walk to Bandon.Meanwhile, GBAboard member Tara Shaw has been working withsome merchants on creating a once-a-monthevening where merchants would remain openlater with an event to draw residents and those inneighboring communities to visit Bandon’s shopsand businesses to see all that they had to offer. When it became known that both groups were

targeting the third Friday of each month, it did nottake long before GBA suggested that combiningefforts would result in even a larger experiencewith something to offer everyone, Schubothe said.Planning for this monthly event is still under way,

but it is hoped that other groups will be interested

in joining the effort.“For example, we are working with vineyards,

musicians, perhaps even vendors at the Old TownMarketplace might be interested in staying open afew more hours for one Friday a month,” Shawsaid. “We understand that this event may startsmall, but we are hoping that as people experi-ence Alive After Five that many more will join us.With the Face Rock Creamery and the WashedAshore Project open until later as well, there willjust be an awful lot going on in our downtown.”Schubothe sees this as a year-round activity.“We understand that the tourist season will end,”Schubothe said.“But it is in the winter months thatpeople are looking for things to do including thosenot that far away from us who do not see a 30-minute drive as an obstacle. We see a late Friday afternoon start time as per-fect for this activity as tourists are just arriving forthe weekend and looking for things to do whilemany local people are winding down their workweek and are ready to relax.”For more information on the Alive After Five

event, contact any of the GBA events and promo-tions committee members Peter Braun, RushelReed, Dean Conyers or Tara Shaw, or call GBA at541-297-2342.
