In one technique, long troughs of U-shaped mirrors focus sunlight on a pipe of oil that runs through the middle. The hot oil then boils water for electricity generation. Over the last couple of years there have been multiple new constructions and businesses being established on HWY 135 between Trafalgar and Greenwood. One of the most unusual and interesting is a 10 acre tract just south of State Road 44. Hoosier Energy is establishing a "solar farm" that will accommodate approximately 4,1000 solar panels that will rotate east to west following the movement of the sun. Catching a Cold When It’s Warm So what could be more unfair than catching a cold when it’s warm? How can cold symptoms arise when it’s not cold and flu season? Is there any way to dodge the sniffles? Cold symptoms can be caused by more than 200 different viruses. Each can bring the sneezing, scratchy throat and runny nose that can be the first signs of a cold. The colds we catch in winter are usually triggered by themost common viral infections in humans, a group of germs called rhinoviruses. Rhinoviruses and a few other cold-causing viruses seem to survive best in cooler weather. Their numbers surge in September and begin to dwindle in May. During summer months, the viral landscape begins to shift. Generally speaking, summer and winter colds are caused by different viruses, When you talk about summer colds, you’re probably talking about a non-polio enterovirus infection. Enteroviruses can infect the tissues in your nose and throat, eyes, digestive system and elsewhere. They’re the second most common type of virus—after rhinovirus—that infects humans. About half of people with enterovirus infections don’t get sick at all. But nationwide, enteroviruses cause an estimated 10 million to 15 million illnesses each year, usually between June and October. Enteroviruses can cause a fever that comes on suddenly. Body temperatures may range from 101 to 104 °F. Enteroviruses can also cause mild respiratory symptoms, sore throat, headache, muscle aches and gastrointestinal issues like nausea or vomiting. All age groups can be affected, but like most viral infections, enterovirus infections predominate in childhood. Adults may be protected from enterovirus infections if they’ve developed antibodies from previous exposures. But adults can still get sick if they encounter a new type of enterovirus. Less common enteroviruses can cause other symptoms. Some can lead to conjunctivitis, or pinkeye—a swelling of the outer layer of the eye and eyelid. Others can cause an illness with rash. In rare cases, enteroviruses can affect the heart or brain. To prevent enterovirus infections, it’s all about blocking viral transmission. The viruses travel in respiratory secretions, like saliva or mucus, or in the stool of an infected person. You can become infected by direct contact. Or you might pick up the virus by touching contaminated surfaces or objects, such as a telephone, doorknob or light switch. Frequent hand washing and avoiding exposure to people who are sick with fever can help prevent the spread of infection. The summer colds caused by enteroviruses generally clear up without treatment within a few days or even a week. But see a health care provider if you have concerning symptoms, like a high fever or a rash.

Spotlight on Biz’ Crossroads Family Dentistry

Meet Pooja Kumar, DDS.She is a General Dentist with over 10 years of experience. Dr. Kumar graduated from University of Colorado School of Dentistry. Since graduation, she has worked in several practices where she focused on a diverse group of patients, ranging from kids to adults to senior citizens. Through her work and passion for patient satisfaction, she nurtured a dream to open her own practice in a small town/rural community where patients are under served and sometimes have to travel longer distances even for basic care. Though Dr Kumar has lived all over from east coast to mid west – and finally, the family's Hoosier roots brought them back to Indiana. In her own practice, Dr. Kumar plans to use the leading dental care procedures while utilizing the state-of-the-art-technology, and equipment. She is a member of American Dental Asso-ciation (ADA) and Indiana Dental Association (IDA). The practice is planned for opening in early 2017. Dr Kumar also proudly served in the US Navy Reserves as a Lieutenant for the last 5 years. Besides doing dentistry, she loves being a busy mom to her 2 boys.

Sweet Temptations", the local bakery, is in the process of relocating to Trafalgar Point Way and will reopen on Tuesday, August 16th. They will face Hwy 252 and be easily accessible with plenty of parking. The business was in need of larger kitchen space because they will also open as a Breakfast and Lunch Cafe, featuring daily specials such as the favorite "grilled cheese and pulled-pork sandwiches". Comfort-home cooking will also feature homemade onion rings and french fries. They will be open Tuesday-Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Jim and Angie Brown, the owner-operators are nearby local residents and their children attend Indian Creek School. Jim spent his childhood working and training in his mother's restaurant.

Recent reports to the sheriff’s office indicate scammers claiming to be with the IRS inform the individual that the IRS, along with local law enforcement, will be coming to their doorstep in the next two hours for their arrest. The scammer claims the individual owes an outstanding balance to the IRS. If someone does owe a balance to the IRS, they are more vulnerable to (the scammers), However, that even if the individual does not owe money, the scammers quickly mention that the payment was received late, and that interest and penalties have accumulated. If the potential victim has remained on the line, the scam-mer will then ask them what amount they can afford to pay upfront. They promise to call off the awaiting officer if money is received in a specific amount of time.“If the person is fearful they’ll be arrested, they won’t make as good of a decision,” According to an IRS press release, IRS officials contact citizens by mail with official IRSbusiness. Again - the IRS uses the mail to contact you “We continue to say if you are surprised to be hearing from us, then you’re not hearing from us,” said IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. An individual can identify the call as a scam immediate-ly if they are asked to get a Western Union Money Order. Once sent, there is virtually no way to retrieve it. The spread of personal information via social media can provide scammers with tactics to improve the believability of the call,. No matter how legitimate such a call seems, people should remain diligent and not be intimidated by the scammer.

These scammers do this continually all day long. They’re very good at what they do. “I would liken them to a fortune teller at a carnival. They’re going to say something general, and something you say back to them will give them their next lead in into their next question.” A number of telephone numbers have been reported as being linked with scams, and originate from the east and west coasts, generally Washington state. Consider blocking those numbers. However, scammers are able to change numbers with ease. Individuals should not assume that calls from area code 402 are legitimate, and should never return a missed call from someone claiming to be with the IRS.If you call them back, you’re letting them know you’re concerned. Individuals should never reveal compromising information, such as bank account numbers, social security numbers or other personal identification information. The public’s reporting of IRS scams help the sheriff’s office remain aware of scammer’s current tactics and material.Scam calls may be reported to the Sheriff’s office non-emer-gency number. To report a financial loss due to IRS imper-sonation scam, visit the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Information webpage.

The IRS will not:Call you to demand immediate payment. The IRS will not call you if you owe taxes without first sending you a bill in the mail.

Demand that you pay taxes and not allow you to question or appeal the amount you owe.

Require that you pay your taxes a certain way. For instance, require that you pay with a prepaid debit card.

Ask for your credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

Threaten to bring in police or other agencies to arrest you for not paying.

If you don’t owe taxes, or have no reason to think that you do:Do not give out any information. Hang up immediately.

Contact TIGTA to report the call. Use their “IRS Imperson-ation Scam Reporting” web page. You can also call 800-366-4484.

Report it to the Federal Trade Commission. Use the “FTC Complaint Assistant” on FTC.gov. Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" in the notes. If you know you owe, or think you may owe tax:Call the IRS at 800-829-1040.
