General Safety Precautions
1. Ifthissolid-fuelroomheaterisnotproperlyinstalled,ahousefiremayresult.Foryoursafety,followtheinstallationdirec-tions.Contactlocalbuildingorfireofficialsaboutrestrictionsandinstallationinspectionrequirementsinyourarea.
2. Wearglovesduringinstallationtoavoidinjuryfromsharpedgesonthestoveand/oritsparts.
3. Thisunitisdesignedandengineeredtoburnonlydry,well-seasonedwood.Burningwetwoodwillgreatlyreduceyourstovesefficiency,produceexcessiveamountsofsmokeandcancausedangerouschimneyfiresduetocreosotebuild-up.
4. Beforeopeningthedoor,thedraft control must be fully open to avoid possible combustion flash (ignitionofhotvolatilegasesasthedoorisopened).
5. Donotusegasoline,gasoline-type lantern fuel, kerosene,charcoallighterfluid,orsimilarliquidstostartor“freshenup”afireinthisstove.Keepallflammableliquidsandcom-bustiblematerials36”fromanypointofthestovewhenitisinuse.
6. Whileburning,fuelutilizesoxygenfromtheairintheroom.Besuretoallowanadequateamountof freshair intotheroomwherethestoveisburning.
7. Theoutsidesurfaceofthestovewillbehotwhileburningproperlyandcansetitemslikeclothingandcurtainsonfire.Keepfurnishingsandothercombustiblematerialsawayfromthestove.Usingtheheatfromthestovetodrywetclothingcanbehazardousifclothesareplacedtoonearthesurfaceofthestove.
8. Hotwhileinoperation.Keepchildren,clothingfurnishingsand combustible material a considerable distance away.Contactmaycauseskinburns.Donotallowchildrentoplaynearthestovewithoutclosesupervision.Donottouchthestovewhileitisburning.Useextremecautionwhiletheunitisinuse.Surfacetemperaturesbecomedangerouslyhotandcancauseseriousburns.
9. Donotallowanyonetooperatethestovewhoisnotfamiliarwiththeoperatinginstructions.
10. Attemptstoachieveheatoutputratesthatexceedstovedesignspecificationscanresultinpermanentdamagetothestove.Neverleaveyourstoveunattendedonhighburnrates.Thismaycauseoverfiring.Overfiringthestovemaycauseahousefire.If the stove glows, you are overfiring.
11. Keepawaterhoseorhand-operatedfireextinguishercloseforsafety.
12. Smoke Detectors-Sincetherearealwaysseveralpotentialsourcesoffireinanyhome,werecommendinstallingsmokedetectors.Ifpossible,installthesmokedetectorinahallwayadjacenttotheroom(toreducethepossibilityofoccasionalfalseactivationfromtheheatproducedbythestove).Ifyourlocalcoderequiresasmokedetectorbeinstalledwithinthesameroom,youmustfollowtherequirementsofyourlocalcode.Checkwithyourlocalbuildingdepartmentforrequire-mentsinyourarea.
13. Inspectyourchimneyatleastonceamonthduringtheburn-ingseasontocheckforsootandcreosoteaccumulations.Anyaccumulationsover1/4”thickshouldberemovedbyaprofessionalchimneysweep.Donotattempttoburnoutheavycreosoteaccumulationswithahotfire.Iflargeaccumulationsareoccurring,reviewyourburningprocedures.
14. Ifacreosotefireshoulddevelop,thefiredepartmentshouldbecalledimmediatelyandthenattemptsshouldbemadetocontrolthefireuntilassistancearrives.Ifa“runaway”fireshoulddevelopcausingover-heatingofthestove,thedooranddraftregulatorsshouldbeclosedimmediately.Thefireshoulddiedownoncedeprivedofoxygen.After a severechimneyfire,thecompletechimneysystemshouldbecheckedbeforefurtheruse.
15. Donotoperatewithagrateorwithanelevatedfire.Alwaysbuildthefireonthesurfaceofthefirebrick.

Testing Information
This manual describes the installation and operation of theLegacy™S260non-catalyticwoodheaters.TheseheatersmeettheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency’semissionslimitsforwoodheaterssoldonorafterJuly1,1990.Thisheaterhasbeendeveloped,testedandconstructedinaccordancewiththerequire-mentsofUL1482,ULCS627andHUDstandardsandislistedbyOMNITestLaboratories,Beaverton,OR.Ithasbeenapprovedforresidential,mobilehomeandalcoveinstallations.
Draft Requirements
Yourwoodstoveisdependentuponaproperlyfunctioningchimneyforoptimumperformance.Itisahighefficiencyappliancethatlosesmuchlessheatupthechimneythanolderappliancesandfireplaces.Forthisreasonitisimportanttomatchthestovetothechimney.Thechimneyhastwofunctions:
1.Itdrawscombustionairintotheappliance(withoutair,nofuelwillburn)and
2.Itexhaustscombustionby-products.YournewCountry™Col-lectionstoveiswhatisknownasa“naturaldraft”appliance.
Theappliancedependssolelyonthenaturaldraftofthechimneysystemtodrawcombustionairintotheunit.Draftistheforcethatmovesairfromtheapplianceupintothechimney.Theamountofdraftinyourchimneydependsonthelengthofthechimney,localgeography,nearbyobstructionsandotherfactors.Toomuchdraftmaycauseexcessivetemperaturesintheappliance(overfiring).Sloworinadequatedraftequalspoorcombustionandpossiblesmokingproblems.Thefollowingaresomeconditionsthatmaycontributetopoorchimneydraft:
1.Achimneytoolargeforyourappliance.2.A chimney with not enough height to produce adequate
draft.3. A chimney with excessive height (this may allow exhaust
tocooltoomuchbeforeexiting,whichwillstalltheratetheexhaustexits).
4.Offsetsintheventingsystemaretoorestrictive(seeChimney Guidelines).
Inadequatedraftwillcausetheappliancetoleaksmokeintotheroomthroughthestoveandthechimneyconnectorjoints.
Excessivedraftmaycauseanuncontrollableburnoraglowingredstoveorchimneypart.
Overfiring Damage-Iftheheaterorchimneyconnectorglows,you are overfiring. Other symptoms may include: Cracking,warpingorburningoutofcomponents,plateddoorsmayturncolor,stoveglassmaydevelopahaze,whichwillnotcomeoffwithcleaning.
Overfiringofastoveisaconditionwhereexcessivetemperaturesarereached,beyondthedesigncapabilitiesoftheappliance.Thedamage that occurs from overfiring is not covered under themanufacturer’slimitedwarranty.

Selecting the Proper Venting System
Theapplianceismerelyonecomponentofalargersystem.Theotherequallyimportantcomponentistheventingsystem.Thisisnecessaryforachievingtherequiredflowofcombustionairtothefirechamberandforsafelyremovingunwantedcombustionbyprod-uctsfromtheappliance.Iftheventingsystem’sdesigndoesnotpromotetheseends,thesystemmaynotfunctionproperly.Poorlyfunctioningventingsystemsmaycreateperformanceproblemsaswellasbeasafetyhazard.A draft test should read greater than .04’ W.C. (inches water column) and less than .08” W.C.AsperNFPA-211standard(seeparagraphbelow),theinstallermusttakeintoaccountallvariableswithintheinstallationandinstalltheapplianceinsuchamannerthatsatisfiesthedraftrequirementsoftheappliance.SeeChimney Guidelinesbelowtoassistyouinselectingtheproperventingsystemforyourinstallation.
American National Standards Institute ANSI/NFPA �11, Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel-Burning Appli-ances - See Draft Section:Achimneyorventshallbesodesignedandconstructedtodevelopaflowsufficienttocompletelyremoveallflueandventgasestotheoutsideatmosphere.Theventingsystemshallsatisfythedraftrequirementsoftheconnectedapplianceinaccordancewiththemanufacturer’sinstructions.
Chimney Guidelines:
• This appliance requires approximately 12 feet minimum of“effectivedraw”providedbytheventingsystem.Asaruleofthumb,every90degreetotaldirectionchangeintheventingwillresultinalossofapproximately5feetof“effectivedraw.”Example: If two45degreeoffsets areused, subtract5 feetfromtheactualverticalventheighttodetermineyour“effec-tivedraw.”Inthiscaseifyouhad14feetofverticalvent,theeffectivedrawwouldonlybeapproximately9feet(14ft.-5ft.=9ft.),thereforeitmaybenecessarytoaddadditionalheighttotheventingsystem.
• Donotinstallanoffsetwithinthefirsttwofeetabovetheflueoutletontheappliance.
• If theventingsystemisallverticalandthetotalvent lengthabovetheflueoutletexceeds14feet,itisrecommendedthatthe8” to6”pipereducer isused(cat.no.71134)anda6”ventingsystembeinstalled.Athigherelevations,thismaynotbenecessary.
• Inwellinsulatedandweathertighthomes,itmaybedifficulttoestablishagooddraftupyourchimney.Thepoordraftiscausedbyashortageofairinthehouse.InthissituationanOutsideAirKitmayneedtobeinstalled(SeeNegative Pressure Warning on Page5andOutside Combustion Air onPage8).

Negative Pressure Warning Thisapplianceisnotdesignedtobeoperatedinanegativepres-sure. Very airtight homes with large kitchen exhaust fans, orhomeswith furnacecoldair returns located incloseproximitytothewoodstoveorfireplaceinsertmaycreatenegativepres-sureinthesameroomastheheatingappliance.Thiscancreatedangerousbackdraftingofthestoveandchimneyjoints,drawingcombustionby-productsintothehome.Besureyourhomehasadequatemakeupairtoeliminatenegativepressurescausedbytheabove-mentionedsources.Outsideairconnectedtotheap-plianceprobablywillnotresolvesuchaproblemasthestoveorfireplace insert isnot thesourceofnegativepressure.LennoxHearthProductsacceptsnoliabilityfordamagesresultingfromnegativepressuresdescribedhere.
Ventilation Requirements -Provideadequateairforcombustion.Thefreshairrequirementsofthisappliancemustbemetwithinthespacewhereitwillbeinstalled.VentilationisessentialwhenusingaSolid-Fuel-Burningheater.Inwellinsulatedandweathertighthomes,itmaybedifficulttoestablishagooddraftupthechimney(causedbyashortageofairinthehome).Thelackofairiscausedbymanycommonhouseholdapplianceswhichexhaustairfromthehome(suchasafurnace,heatpump,airconditioner,clothesdryer,exhaustfans,fireplaces,andotherfuelburningap-pliances).Also,thecombustionprocessofthisheaterusesoxygenfrominsidethedwelling.Iftheavailablefreshairdeliveryinthedwellingisinsufficienttosupportthedemandsoftheseappliances,problemscanresult(i.e.excessivenegativepressurecandevelopinthedwellingwhichwillaffecttherateatwhichthisappliancecandraftthusresultinginperformanceproblems.Tocorrectthisproblemitmayhelptoopenawindow(preferablyonthewindwardsideofthehouse)orinstallanoptionaloutsideairkit.
Creosote Formation and Need for Removal
Whenwoodisburnedslowly,itproducestarandotherorganicvapors,whichcombinewithexpelledmoisturetoformcreosote.Thecreosotevaporscondenseintherelativelycoolchimneyflueofaslow-burningfire.Asaresult,creosoteresidueaccumulatesonthefluelining.Whenignited,thiscreosotemakesanextremelyhotfire.Thechimneyandchimneyconnectorshouldbeinspectedatleastonceeverytwomonthsduringtheheatingseasontodetermineifacreosotebuilduphasoccurred.Ifcreosotehasaccumulated,itshouldberemovedtoreducetheriskofachimneyfire.
Ash Disposal
Ashesshouldbescoopedoutofacoolstovewithasmallmetalshovel.Ashesshouldbeplacedinametalcontainerwithatightfitting lid. The closed container of ashes should be placed ona non-combustible floor or on the ground, well away from allcombustiblematerials,pendingfinaldisposal. If theashesaredisposedofbyburialinsoilorotherwiselocallydispersed,theyshouldbe retained in theclosedcontaineruntilall thecindershave thoroughlycooled.Ashescan igniteup to72hoursafterremovalfromthestove.
Fuel
Thisunitisdesignedandengineeredtoburn,dry,well-seasonedwoodonly.
Dry,seasonedwoodisthatwhichhasbeencut,splitandallowedtodryunderacoveredareawhereairisfreetoflowandcirculateunderandaroundthewood(notunderatarporplastic).Makesurewoodisnotstackeddirectlyontheground,itmayabsorbmoisturefromtheground.Itshouldbeallowedtodryintheseconditions for a minimum of six months, preferably one yearormore.IT MUST BE UNDERSTOOD THAT WOOD CANNOT BE LEFT IN ANY KIND OF WET OR DAMP AREA OR IT WILL NEVER BECOME COMPLETELY SEASONED.
Yourstovewillnotoperateatthelevelthatitismeanttounlessyouuseseasoned,drywood.Donotburndriftwoodorwoodthathasbeeninsaltwater,doingsowillvoidyourwarranty.Donotburntreatedwood,coal,garbage,cardboard,solvents,orcoloredpaper.Burningtreatedwood,garbage,solvents,orcoloredpapermayresultinthereleaseoftoxicfumes.Thistypeofburningwillalsovoidyourwarranty.
Burn-In Period
If your stove has a Gold or Nickel-Plated Door, be sure to clean it with a household type glass cleaner and a very soft cloth to remove any fingerprints and residues prior to the first fire and before any fire if the gold has been handled or soiled. Do not close the door tightly during the “Burn-In Period.” Also, open the door frequently (every 5-10 minutes) to keep the gasket from adhering to the curing paint. Ventilatethehousewelldur-ingthesefirstfiringsasthepaintgivesoffcarbondioxideandunpleasantodors.Itisrecommendedthatpersonssensitivetoanimbalanceintheindoorairqualityavoidthestoveduringthecuringprocess.
Pleasebepatientwiththeheatoutputofyourstoveforthefirstfewweeks.Thesteelwillgothroughacuringprocessthateliminatesmoisture,whichisdeepinthesteelandfirebrick.Thismoisturewillreduceinitialheatoutputofyourstoveandmaymakeitdifficulttostart.Afteryouhavebrokeninthepaintonthestoveitwillbenecessarytobuildhotfirestothoroughlyremovethemoisturefromtheappliance.Runningthestovewiththedraftfullyopenfor1to1-1/2hoursafterstartingandaddinggenerousamountsoffuelduringthefirstweekortwoshouldcompletethecuringprocess.Werecommendtheuseofathermometerattachedtothestovetoporchimney.Temperaturesontheconnectorpipeshouldruninthe250-600degreerange.(DO NOT OVERFIRE THE STOVE DURING THIS PROCESS. IF THE STOVE OR CHIMNEY BECOMES RED, REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF AIR ENTERING THE STOVE IMMEDIATELY).
Paint Curing
YournewLegacy™260stoveispaintedwithaHighTemperaturePaintthatcuresduringthefirstfewfirings.Werecommendthatyouputyourstovethrougharegimenofthreeburns.Thefirsttwoshouldlastfor20minuteseachat250degrees(thestoveshouldbeallowedtocoolcompletelybetweeneachburn).Thethirdshouldbeaburnofatleast450degreesF.for45-60minutes.Thepaintwillbecomesoft,gummyandemitnon-toxicsmokeduringtheseburns.Afterthestovecoolsdownforthethirdtime,thepaintwillharden.DO NOT BUILD A LARGE ROARING FIRE UNTIL THIS CURING EFFECT IS COMPLETE OR YOU MAY DAMAGE THE FINISH OF YOUR STOVE.Spraycantouch-upsshouldbedoneonlywithahightemperaturestovepaint(cat.no.70K99),availablefromallLennoxHearthProductsdealers.

Clearances to Combustibles
WARNING: BE ABSOLUTELY SURE THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE HEATER AND THE SURFACE OF ANY COMBUSTIBLE CONSTRUCTION IS NOT LESS THAN SHOWN.
Floor Protection
USA -Thefloorinfrontandundertheheatermustbeprotectedwithaminimumof3/8”thicknoncombustiblematerial.Thecover-ingmustextend16”infrontofthedooropeningoftheheaterand8”toeithersideofthedooropeningand5-1/2”totherearortothewall,whicheverissmaller.Inallinstallationsa16”minimumhearthextension(infrontofthestove)isrequiredasmeasuredfromthedooropeningoftheunit.
Canada -Thefloorinfrontandundertheheatermustbeprotectedwithaminimumof3/8”thicknoncombustiblematerial.Thecoveringmustextend457mminfrontofthedooropeningoftheheaterand200mmtoeithersideofthestovebodyand200mmtotherearortothewall,whicheverissmaller.Inallinstallationsa457mmminimumhearthextension(infrontofthestove)isrequiredasmeasuredfromthedooropeningoftheunit.
Reduced Clearances
Clearancestocombustiblesurfacescanbereducedwiththeuseoflisteddoublewallconnectorpipe.Seetheclearanceswithdoublewallpipeonthefollowingpage.

Mobile Home Installations
This appliance is approved for installation into a mobile home in the USA ONLY!
Installation should be in accordance with the Mobile Home Construction and Safety Standard, Title �4 CFR, Part ��80 (in Canada CAN/CSA Z�40 MH), or, when such a standard is not applicable, the Standard for Mobile Home Installations, ANSI A��5.1.
Allmobilehomeinstallationsrequireanoutsideairkit(Cat.No.71111forunitswithlegsorCat.No.71112forunitswithaped-estal).Thestovemustbeboltedtothefloorandgroundedtothechassisofthemobilehome.

Stove Installation

2. Positionthestoveonyourfloorprotectionintheexactlocationwhereitistobelocated,makingsureallminimumclearancesaremet.
3. Ifyouareinstallingoutsideaironyourstove,marka4”circleon thefloorprotection justbelow theoblongring. Whencutout,thisholewillaccommodatetheflexibleoutsideairtube.
4. Ifthestoveistobefastenedtothefloor,locatetheholddownbrackets inside the leg box and mark the floor protectionbelowtheholesinthebrackets.
5. Ifyouare installingoutsideaironyourstove,removethestoveandcut thefloorprotectionandthefloorwhere the4”airtubecirclehadbeenpreviouslydrawn.Ifthestoveistobefastenedtothefloor,drill1/2”holesthroughthefloorprotection only, at the marks that were for fastening thestovetothefloorifsodesired.Sliptheflexibleoutsideairtubethroughtheholeinthefloor,leaving1”oftubeabovethefloorprotectorsurface,usingtapetoholditinplace.
6. Placethestoveonthefloorprotectionsothatthepreviouslycutordrilledholeslineup.Attachthestovetothefloorwiththelagboltsifsodesired.
7. Ifyouareinstallingoutsideaironyourstoveplacethehoseclampovertheflexibleairtubeandslidethetubeupoverthe4”ringontheoutsideairadaptorboxandtightenthehoseclamp.Pushtheoutsideairadaptorforward1/4”until fullcontactismadewiththelowerheatshield.Tightenthe1/4”boltuntiltheadaptorboxisheldfirmlyinplace.Usesiliconesealanttocreateasealbetweentheflexibleairtubeandyourfloorprotection.
8. Ifitisnecessarytolevel,secure,orgroundyourstove,usetheholesinthebottomofthelegforthoseapplications.TolevelthestoveonOlympiccastlegs,locatethefrontlegthatisnottouchingthehearthpad.Inserttheallenheadscrewthroughtheslottedwasher(suppliedwiththelegs)andintothethreadedholeinthebottomoftheleg.Seethedrawingtotheright.Pushtheslottedwasherdownuntilittouchesthehearthpadandthentightenthescrewintotheleg.Shouldanyotherlegnotberestingonthehearthpad,installawasherandscrewinthatlegaswell.
9. InstallbricksandbaffleasperinstructionsonPage12.Itishighlyrecommendedthatthebafflebeassembledbeforethechimneyisinstalledsothattheinsulatingfiberblanketscanbeadjustedintoplacethroughthefluecollar.
10.Ifinstalledintoamobilehome,thestoveshallbegroundedtothemobilehomechassiswitha#8AGWcopperwireorequivalent.
11. Forresidentialinstallations,installthefirstsectionofstovepipewiththecrimpedendgoingdowninsidethefluecollarontheheater.Continuewithyourstovepipe,installingeachsection-crimpedenddown.Makethefinalconnectiontoyourchimney.Yourdealercarriesthenecessarypipeandfittingstoconnecttothevariouslistedfactory-builtchimneys.YOUR CHIMNEY INSTALLATION MUST COMPLY WITH LOCAL BUILDING AND FIRE CODES.
12. Besuretofasteneachstovepipeconnectionwithatleast3sheetmetalscrews.
13. Install chimney as per manufacturer’s instructions. Somebrandsofpipemayrequireremovalofthespacerringinthefluecollar.
14. AllhorizontalrunsofpipeshouldbeasshortaspossibleandarerequiredbyNFPANo.211tohaveanupwardpitchorriseinthesamedirectionthesmoketravelsofnolessthan1/4”tothelinearfoot.Theconnectorpipemustmeetminimumclearancesinanydirectiontowallsorothercombustible materials.It must attach to a listeddoublewallmetalchimneyatleast6”indiameterortoamasonrychimneywithafluepassageofatleast48squareinches.
15. I t i s requ i red that achimney connector pipenot extend further thanthe inner wall of the fluewhen it is connected toamasonrychimneyandthatit either be cemented tothemasonryorbeinstalledwithoutcementinathimbleconnectedtothemasonrywall. When the connectorisinsertedintoathimble,thejointmustbetightenoughsothatitwillnotbedislodgedinnormaluse.Installconnectorat no less than the minimum clearances from the ceilingwhenusinga90-degreeelbowtopassthroughcombustibleconstructions.
16. Chimneyconnectorpipesshouldneverpassthroughafloor,ceiling,firewall,partition,orcombustibleconstructionofany type unless certain precautions are taken. The bestmethod is tousea listed thimbleanda listedchimney inaccordance with the manufactures directions. NFPA No.211givesapprovedmethodsforpassingafluepipethroughcombustibleconstructions.

1. Removetheheaterfromthecarton,ifpackaged,uponreceiptandcheckforanydamagedormissingparts.
2. Carefullyputthestoveonpedestalwiththeopenendofthepedestalfacingtherear.DO NOT LEAVE THE
STOVE UNATTENDED UNTIL IT IS BOLTED SECURELY TO THE PEDESTAL.
3. Line up the holes in the brackets on the pedestal with thethreadedholesinthebottomofthestoveandusethetwo1/2”longboltsAND3/8”standardwasherstoboltthestovetothepedestal.Be sure to see that the stove is mounted squarely on the pedestal before tightening the two bolts securely.
4. WheninstallingapedestalonthisstoveyouMUSTplugthefourlegmountingboltholes,locatedonthebottomofthestoveinthefourcorners,withtheboltsthatwereusedtomounttheshippinglegs.The two rear bolts should not be installed more that two full rotations to prevent lifting the bricks off the bottom of the stove. FAILURE TO INSTALL THESE FOUR BOLTS PROPERLY WILL RESULT IN REDUCED CONTROL OF THE STOVE’S COMBUSTION SYSTEM!
5. Ifrequired,installtheOutsideAirKit(cat.no.71112)asperthefollowinginstructions.Tolocatetheholeinthehearthforoutsideairmarkandcuta4”(102mm)holeinthehearth.Thehole’scentershouldbe3”(76mm)directlyforwardfromthecenteroftheflueoutletorlocateaspertheinstructionsbelow.
6. Positionthestoveonyourfloorprotectionintheexactlocationwhereitistobelocated,makingsureallminimumclearancesaremet.Markthefloorprotectionwherethepedestalwillbelocated,thenremovethestove.
7. Makefour1-1/2”(38mm)cutsinoneendofthecorrugatedtubeandfoldtheflapsback.Cuta4”(102mm)holethroughthefloorprotectionandthefloorandinsertthecorrugatedtubeintothehole.Coveritwiththesuppliedscreenandfastenittothefloorprotector.
8. Locatethe1-1/2”x14”(292mmx356mm)metalplateandpainttomatchthestoveifnecessary.Positionthispiecesothat the 14” (356 mm) dimension evenly overlaps the lipsonthebackofthepedestal(seedrawingbelow).Attachthisplatetothebackofthepedestalwiththeself-tappingscrewssupplied.
9. Ifthestoveistobefastenedtothefloor,attachthestovewiththesuppliedlagbolts,throughthepedestalbaseonoppositesides,attachingthemintothefloorbeneaththefloorprotection.Sealanyirregularitieswithsiliconesealer.
10. Ifinstalledinamobilehome,theheatershallbegroundedtothechassiswitha#8AGWcopperwireorequivalent.
11. Install bricks as per instructions on Page 12. It is highlyrecommendedthatthebafflebeassembledbeforethechimneyisinstalledsothattheceramicfiberblanketscanbeadjustedintoplacefromtheflueoutlet.

Brick Installation

Note: Installation of the baffle bricks and insulating blanket is easier when you can still access the flue outlet, (before connecting the flue pipe). Besuretheinsulatingblanketisplacedflatonthebrickssoasnottoblocktheflueandthatitdoesnothangoutoverthefrontofthebaffle. Use a ruler or a piece of kindling to reach over the blanket to be sure it is completely flat on top of the baffle bricks.

3. Installbricks#34-38byslidingthebackofonebrickatatimeoverthetopoftherearstainlessbafflesupportuntilyoucanliftthefrontofthebrickontothefrontstainlessbaffle support (Figure 8). Slide bricks #34-38 forwardintothefrontstainlessbafflesupportuntiltheyareasfarforwardastheywillgo.
4. Next, install the insulating blanket on top of the bafflebricksbycarefullyslidingitinfromthefront.

2. Removethescrewintheroundknock-outplateonthebackofthestove.Bendtheknock-outplatebackandforthuntilitcanberemoved.
3. Mounttheblowerasshownbelow.Makesurethecordis at the bottom when mounted and that it does nottouch the stove anywhere. Remove the four screwsfromthebackofthestove.Useoneofthefourscrewswithawasheronitandattachtheblowerthroughoneofthefourmountinglegsontheblowerhousing.Checktomakesurethatthefanbladedoesnottouchthelargeholeintherearheatshield.(Spinittocheckalldirec-tions).Finishattachingtheblowerwiththeotherthreescrews.Tightenthescrewsmoderatelytightbutdonotovertightenasyoumaystriptheholesout.
4. Pluginthefanspeedcontrolintothenearestoutletthenplugtheblowercordintothespeedcontrol.Donotroutethefanpowercordunderthestoveorallowittocomeincontactwithanysurfaceofthestove.ReadthesectionStartingandMaintainingaFireforproperfanoperatinginstructionsonPage17.

CAUTION Be careful not to abuse door assembly by striking or slamming it. If the door assembly or glass is broken or damaged, they must be replaced with factory original parts before heater can be safely operated. Use only components provided by the manufacturer as replace-ment parts.

Starting and Maintaining a Fire
Be sure to clean the Nickel or Gold Plated door with a household type glass cleaner and a very soft cloth to remove any fingerprints and residues prior to the first fire.
1. NEVER USE FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS TO START OR RE-KINDLE A SOLID FUEL FIRE!!
2. Fullyopen theprimarydraftcontrolbypulling the1”plasticknoboutontheleftside(lowerfrontcorner)untilitstops(awayfromthestove).Thiscontroldeterminestheamountofairenteringthestove.Pushingittowardthestovereducestheburnrateinthefirebox.Foryourconvenience, the rod on this control is marked withfourgroovestoassistyouinobtainingrepeatableburnrates.
3. Placeasmallamountofcrumpledpaperinfrontofthefireboxandcoveritwithafewpiecesofkindling.
4. Lightthepaperandallowsufficienttimeforthekindlingtobecomefullyengulfedinflames.Closethedoor.Yourdoormayormaynotneedtobeleftslightlyopenduringthisprocess,dependingonyourstovemodelandchimneydraft.Oncethekindlingisburningwell,largerpiecesofwoodmaybeadded,thenthedoorshouldbeclosed.
Do not operate the stove with the doors open or ajar, as this will produce extreme temperatures within the stove. Damage caused from over-firing is not covered under the manufacturers limited warranty.
5. Forbestresults,usesmallerpiecesofwoodtogetthestovetemperatureveryhighbeforeloadinglargerwoodforsustainedburns.Ifnecessary,crackthedoortoal-lowignitionofthefuelcharge.Nowyoucanaddlargerpiecesofwoodandafterseveralminutesofhighburn,settheleftcontrolforthedesiredheatoutput.Checktheexhaustinabout15to20minutes.Largeamountsofsmokeindicateanimproperburnsetting(eithertoohighortoolow).Adjustandrecheckin5to10minutes.
6. Theoperatorplaysanimportantpartinkeepingtheglasscleanandfreeofbuild-ups.Thefirstandmostimportantparttheoperatorplaysismakingsuretoburnonlywell-seasonedfirewood.Wet wood = Dirty glass.Keepingyourglassdoorcleanispartlyac-complishedbytheairwashsystemofthestove,whichsendsclean,freshairforcombustion,overthewindowbeforeitentersthefire.Thehightemperaturesinsidethefireboxalsokeeptheglassclean.No stove door stays perfectly clean.Thefollowingaremethodsforkeepingbuild-uponyourglasstoaminimum.Whenproperlyinstalledandoperatedbyaknowledgeableoperator,yourglassdoorshouldrequireverylittlemaintenance.Donotexpecttogetextremelylongburntimesandkeepthewindowperfectlyclean.Cooltemperaturescausecondensationofunburnedvolatilesontheglass.Ifyourglassgetsverydirtyduringovernightburning,trypreheatingthestovealittlelongerbeforedampingitdownforanovernightburn.Also,don’tdamperyourstovedownaslowbecauseyou’ll get more heat for your money by burning a little hotter for a slightly shorter time.
Theairwashsystemwillperformatitsbestatmediumburnrates.Somestovemodelswillselfcleanbyburningveryhotfiresbutbesurenottoover-firethestove. If it glows red it is over-fired.Over-firingastovealsocausesthewindowtosootup.Extremelyhotfireswithfreshwoodmaycausetheflowratetoexceedonefootpersecond,whichisasfastasaflamecanburn.Thisiswhyacandlegoesoutwhenyoublowonit.Blowonitgentlyanditburnsbrightly.Blowonithardanditgoesout.Thiswillcauseexcessiveexhaustemissionsandyourwindowtosootup,asthestove is unable toburn thegases emitted from thewood. Tryslowingthestovedownalittlebyclosingthedampersomewhatasitwarmsup.
Keepingfreshlyloadedwoodawayfromthewindowwillalsohelp.Loadfreshlogsintherearofthefirebox.Build-uptendstooccurfirstontherightsideofthewindow.Thisiscausedbytheswirl-ingmotionoftheexhaustgasessimilartowaterrunningdownadrain.Keepfreshlogsfurtherbackontherightsideofthefireboxtohelppreventthisproblem.

CAUTION Cleaning Glass: Ensure appliance is cold prior to cleaning glass. A commercial glass cleaner designed for stoves is recommended. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Do not clean with any materials, which may scratch or otherwise damage the glass. Scratches on the glass can develop into cracks or break. Inspect the glass regularly. If you detect a crack, extinguish the fire and contact your dealer for a replacement.

Maximizing Your Stove’s Overall Efficiency
It is important to know that for high, combustion efficient, clean burns, you will need to have sufficient temperatures inside the firebox for thorough combustion. The best method for deter-miningifyouhavesufficienttemperaturesistowatchthebricklininginyourfirebox.Whenyoufirstlightyourstove,thebrickswillturnadarkbrownorblack.After20to30minutesofahotfire,mostofthebricksshouldreturntoneartheiroriginallightbrownoryellowcolor.Thismeansthebrickshavereachedahighenoughtemperatureforyourstovetoachievehighcombustionefficiency.
Second and just as important, is achieving a high level of heat transfer efficiency.Slowingtherateofflowthroughthestoveorinsertenhancesheattransfer,thusallowingmoretimeforheattobetransferredintoyourhome.Todothis,besuretothoroughlypreheatyourstoveandthenreducetheamountofprimaryairbyclosingthedraftcontrol(lowerleft)toabout1/2to3/4open.Thiswilldecreasetheexcessoxygeninyourflue,whichcarriesheatupyourchimney,butshouldstillbeenoughairtoallowthestovetoproduceitsmaximumheatoutput.(Moreairmayproduceaslightlygreateramountofheat,butwillgreatlyincreasewoodconsumption).Whentheareabeingheatedreachesacomfortabletemperature,slowtheburnratebyclosingthecontroltofurtherimproveheattransfer.
TogetthemostoutofyourCountry™Collectionstove,youwillneed to combine good combustion efficiency with good heattransferpractices.Thefollowingaresometipsonhowtooperateyourstovetoachievethehighestoverallefficiency:
1. Thoroughlypreheatyourstovebeforeslowingtheburnratebyclosingthedraftcontrol.
2. Measurethestovetemperatureatthehottestpointonthestovetoporface.Usethisinformationtorepeatburnrates.
3. Oncepreheated,addwood(ifneeded)andpartiallyclosethedraftcontrol(lowerleft).
4. Operateyourstoveasmuchaspossibleinthelowtomediumburnranges.
5. Donotlowerthedraftsettingsolowastocompletelyextinguishtheflamesinthefirebox.Checkforatleastsomesmallflamestwentyminutesaftersettingthedraftcontrol.
6. Donotcontinuallyoperateyourstoveinthehigh(wideopen)setting.Thiswasteswoodbycarryingagreatdealofheatupthechimneyandcandamageyourstoveandchimney.
7. Gooutsideandcheckyourchimney.Morethanaverysmallamountofsmokeindicateswastedheat,creosotebuild-upandpollution.
Achieving Clean, Long Burns
To achieve long burn times, after having thoroughly preheated the stove, let the stove top cool down to �75 to 400 degrees (on Elites, locate thermometer on the face of the insert just above the door).Nowloadthefireboxandsetthedraftcontrol.Atthispoint,youmayneedtoburnthestovewiththedraftopenforafewminutestoignitethewood.AllCountryCollectionstovesareEPAtestedforemissionsatlowburnwiththeaircontrolcompletelyclosed.Whetherornotyoushouldburnyourstovewiththeaircontrolcompletelyclosedwilldependonthefollowingfactors.

Experiment with different loading configurations to achieve longer burns.Tryloadingthewoodfromsidetosideandnestingitintheashestopreventairflowunderandaroundthewood.Freshwoodshouldbeloadedtothebackofthefireboxortothesides.Hotcoalsorhalfburnedwoodshouldbebroughttowardsthefrontofthefirebox.Thewayyouloadyourwoodcanseriouslyaffectburntimes.Ifthenewloaddoesnotignitewithinafewminutes,trycrisscrossingtheloadtoallowmoreairflowaroundthefire,ortryaslightlyhotterstovetemperature.
Determining the lowest setting for efficient low burns. Thiswillrequiresomeexperimentationonyourpart.Tryclosingtheaircontrolallthewaywiththestovetemperatureat325to350degrees.Iftheflamesarecompletelyextinguished,opentheaircontrolhalfwayandthenslowlycloseituntilthereisonlyasmallamount of flame. It is important to check the stove about 20minutesaftersettingthedraftcontrolasittakesthislongforthestovetemperaturetostabilize.Thereshouldstillbesomesmallflamesonorabovethewoodload.
Use ��5 degrees as a starting point.Youcantrystartingtem-peratures 25 degrees higher or lower to achieve desired burntimes,start25degrees lower if thestoveburns thewood tooquicklyor25degreeshigheriftherearenoflamesinthefireboxformorethanafewminutesafterloadingthewood.Youmayormaynotneedtoburnthestovewiththeaircontrolopenforafewminutespriortosettingthedraftforalowburn,thiswilldependonthefactorsmentionedabove. Be sure not to smolder a fire overnight. Check your chimney for large amounts of smoke as this indicates very poor combustion.
It is important to realize that stove technology has changed.Stoveshavechangedagreatdealinthelastfewyears.Thishasled tosubstantialchanges in themethodsofoperation innewstovesascompared toolderstoves. Inoldstoveswithout fullbrickliningsandceramicinsulation,therulewas“getthestoveashotaspossiblebeforesettingthedraftonlowforovernightburns.”Onnewer,hightechnologystoves,thisisnotnecessary.Althoughitisstillimportanttohavethestovehotenoughtoburnefficiently,itwillrequirelesspreheating.Onceyouhavedeterminedyouroptimumoperatingtemperaturesforvariousburnrates,webelieveyouwillfindyourstoveanextremelyconvenientwaytoachieveyourheatingneeds.
Do not reload the stove for long burns when the stainless secondary tubes or baffle supports are glowing red, or when the stove is uncomfortably hot to load.Thisindicatesthestoveistoohottoloadforalongburn.Also,donotloadwoodforalongburnonadeepbedofhotcoals.Trystirringthecoalsafewminutesbeforeloadingthestoveforalowburntoallowsomeoftheunburnedcoalstimetoburn.

DOOR HINGES:Ifdoorhingesneedlubricating,useananti-seizecompound (never use oil) available from your Lennox HearthProductsdealer.DOOR LATCH: Ifyourdoorlatchfailstolatchtightlyandthegasketisingoodcondition,placealengthofpipe(cheaterbar)overtheinsideportionofthedoorhandleandbendslightlytowardthedooruntiltheproperadjustmentisobtained.Ifthedoorhandledoesnotcloseeasily,applyhightemperatureanti-seizetothestriker.DOOR GASKET: Periodicallycheckgaskettomakesureitisnotover-compressed.Ifcompressed,replacewithaspecialwovendoorrope.(Don’ttrysubstitutingrope,onlyusespecialLennoxHearthProductsdoorrope).GOLD OR NICKEL PLATED DOOR: Cleanonlywithahouseholdtypeglasscleanerandaverysoftcottoncloth.Otherproductsmaydamagebrass,paintandgaskets.
INSULATING BLANKETS: Yourinsulatingblanketshouldbein-spectedduringeverychimneycleaning.Iftheblanketiscompressedorheavilystained,itshouldbereplaced.Heavycreosotestainsormattingisanindicationofimproperuseandyourburninghabitsshouldbereviewed.
GLASS CLEANING: Onlycleanglasswithproductsspecificallymadetouseonwoodstoves.Otherproductscoulddamagegasketsandpaint.Neverscrapeglasswitharazorblade.Thiscanpittheglassandmakeitimpossibletocleaninthefuture.
WINDOW GASKET: Thewindowgasketcanbecheckedbyrun-ningtheflameofamatchnearthegasketandaroundthedoor.Iftheflameisdrawninaroundthewindow,thegasketshouldbereplaced.DOOR HANDLE:Doorhandlemaybecometightasyouusethestove.Freethehandleupbyusingdrygraphitesuppliedwiththestove.Thedirectionsareincludedwiththegraphite.
WARNINGS Inspect and clean chimney and connector frequently. Under certain conditions of use, creosote buildup may occur rapidly.
