Food Drive in Bayonne Schools and BCB BankBranches for Make A Difference Day
Mayor Jimmy Davis and Police Chief Robert Geisler announced that the BayonneBoard of Education, participating religious schools, and BCB Community Bankare conducting a food drive from Monday, October 7, through Wednesday, Oc-tober 30. As in past years, the Bayonne Police Department is coordinating thefood drive with the schools, BCB, and the Bayonne Department of Public Works.Bayonne police officers will be assisting with the pick-up and distribution offood donations. The drive is part of the annual, national Make A Difference Dayactivities, which encourage volunteerism across America. National Make A Dif-ference Day this year is Saturday, October 26. Mayor Davis said, “The Make A Dif-ference Day food drive provides the school community and the general publicthe opportunity to help restock our local food pantries. Many of our fellow Bay-onne residents depend on these pantries to help feed themselves and their fam-ilies.” Mayor Davis continued, “I would like to thank the people of Bayonne forcontinuing their generosity to this annual food drive in 2019.”The White Glove Moving Company of Bayonne donated boxes for transportingand storing the food.The Bayonne Board of Education and the participating religious schools aresending or have sent notices home with each student to explain the food drive.The schools and two BCB Community Bank branches in Bayonne, will serve asdrop-off points for donations. The participating BCB Bank branches are locatedat 4th Street and Avenue C, and at 24th Street and Broadway. The Department ofPublic Works will pick up food from the schools and participating BCB Bankbranches on Tuesday, October 29, and Wednesday, October 30, and will deliver
it to local non-profit organizations and religious congregationsthat have food pantries. The following nine food pantries will benefit from the fooddrive: 1) the Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation(BEOF), 2) the Windmill Alliance/Highways, 3) Friendship Bap-tist Church, 4) Wallace Temple AME Zion Church, 5) First As-sembly of God Church, 6) St. Vincent DePaul Roman CatholicChurch, 7) St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church, 8) St. Mary’sStar of the Sea Roman Catholic Church (Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish), and 9)Faith and Victory Deliverance Church of God. If any other food pantries in Bay-onne would like to benefit from the food drive, they should contact Mike Elia inthe Police Department at 201-436-5477, or Melissa Morales at 201-858-5856.Students participating in the food drive should bring packaged, non-perishablefood items to school by October 28, and may start as early as October 7. Membersof the general public may bring packaged, non-perishable food to the donationboxes at the two participating BCB Bank branches in Bayonne during bankinghours from October 7 through October 28.
