We find ourselves once more in the summer months of June and July. I hope you will be able to spend time during this break from the ordinary to carve out time for rest, rejuvenation, and especially family time; both with your family and with your church family. We strive to make summers unique here at KBC. We intentionally plan for times for you to be with your family and with your church family. Inside this months edition of The Advent, you will find many of the activities already on our church calendar for great times of fellowship, fun, missions, and of course biblical instruction. We will of course communicate with you more clearly each week in the bulletin.
Fond memories of my home church coincide often with Royal Ambassadors. 2 Corinthians 5:20-21 was a key verse; “We are ambassadors for Christ … God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, to be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Jesus preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near (Eph. 2:17). As His ambassador, Paul preached the same, and you and I should continue in the same way. Though not everyone of us will preach in the traditional sense, each and every believer has been given a commission to make the gospel known. This is not a light calling. God Himself is making His appeal to the world through us. We are carriers of the eternal message of God’s love. Let’s make an effort to be His ambassadors this summer and intentionally look for the opportunities to share His love with love with others...as ambassadors for Christ. Thom Rainer reports that church members are attending church less frequently. The reasons are many; more mo-bile, more affluent, more options for the weekend, many consider church attendance optional, and most are not likely active in a small group. I share that because I want you to know that you’re missed when you’re not in worship and that your presence can either hinder what God may want to do in your life and the life of your church or God can use your presence to be a blessing to others. Consider the bullet points under my article. This month I begin a brand new series I’m calling Questions & Answers; What the Bible has to Say to Cultural Is-sues of Our Day. We begin this new series on Sunday, June 3 talking about the Sanctity of Life. Have a safe and Jesus-filled summer!
Our Wednesday Evening Fellowship Meals will be suspended for the summer and will resume in
September. Please let our cooks know how much you enjoyed their efforts to serve you and our
church family, and for providing such delicious meals this past church year.
We will have a volunteer meeting for Vacation Bible School on Wednesday, June 13th at 5:30 pm. A special prayer service
will follow at 6:30 to kick-off VBS! Please see Joanie for more details.

What My Absence From Church Did
It caused some to question the reality of my faith.
It made some think that I was a pretender.
It made many think that I consider my spiritual welfare
and that of others a matter of small concern.
It weakened the effect of the church service.
It made it harder for the preacher to preach.
It discouraged other church members and robbed them
of a blessing.
It caused others to stay away from church.
It made it harder for me to resist the temptation of the
devil.
It gave the devil more power and influence over lost
people.
It encouraged me to become irregular in church
What My Presence At Church Did
It caused people to have confidence in me.
It made people realize that I regard my spiritual welfare
and that of others, matters of great importance.
It had a good effect on the services.
It made my friends feel more welcome.
It encouraged other church members and helped the
pastor in his work.
It caused others to come to Christ.
It made my life stronger for another week.
It removed stumbling blocks from the sinner’s path.
It pleases God.
It caused others to say, “He practices what
he preaches.”

Mission Trip - Bethlehem, PA Our summer mission trip this year is to Bethlehem, PA where we will serve alongside NAMB church planter Travis Ross. The dates are June 23-29. In joining a mission trip to Bethlehem, PA and serving with Star City Church you can be part of several ministries which all point the gospel of Jesus Christ. This summer you will serve the homeless and those in poverty by helping New Bethany Ministry in their food pantry, soup kitchen and preparing their apartments for those in need. We also will serve the community by helping clean a park and providing a community Art night at LIT Coffee, a local coffee shop. In these ministries, every partnership and service project will help Travis and Star City Church build a stronger relationship with the City of Bethlehem and the people who need to hear the gospel. We hope to see you join our trip to Bethlehem!
The Valley Voices of Spring Valley Baptist Church-Columbia
June 3rd @ 6:30 pm
This 80-voice senior adult choir will be a blessing as they share their music with us. Mark this date on your calendar and invite your friends and neighbors
to come join us for a special evening of worship through music!
The Sound of Music, one of the most successful musical films ever produced, was released as a motion picture in 1965. It won many accolades, including five Academy Awards, as it captured the hearts and voices of people around the world. More than half a century later, people still attend special showings of the film where viewers come dressed as their favorite character and sing along during the performance. Music is deeply rooted in our souls. And for followers of Jesus, it is a powerful means of encouraging each other along the journey of faith. Paul urged the believers in Colossae, “Let Christ’s teaching live in your hearts, making you rich in the true wisdom. Teach and help one another along the right road with your psalms and hymns and Christian songs, singing God’s praises with joyful hearts” (Col. 3:16 Phillips). Singing together to the Lord embeds the message of His love in our minds and souls. It is a powerful ministry of teaching and encouragement that we share together. Whether our hearts cry out, “Create in me a pure heart, O God” (Ps. 51:10), or joyfully shout, “And he will reign forever and ever” (Rev. 11:15), the power of music that exalts God lifts our spirits and grants us peace. Let us sing to the Lord today! See you Sunday! Lin
