The Redcar & Cleveland Registration Service offers a range of excellent

civil ceremonies which allow you as a couple to make some enhancements to

your ceremony with the restriction that the whole ceremony must take place inside the

licensed venue.

With this in mind and due to many requests by couples to the registration service for ceremonies to be held outside in the gardens, grounds or marquee in the grounds of the licensed venue, the concept “Freedom Ceremony” was created.

A freedom ceremony is designed to allow you to have more choice in where it can take place and what you would like your ceremony to contain and to allow you to tailor your ceremony so that it becomes something much more personal, unique and special to you. HOW CAN WE HELP PERSONALISE YOUR CEREMONY?

Our staff will assist you with putting together a script which means something special to you both, we will provide you with a template script with choices. Your ceremony can include words about how you met, what you love about each other and what the ceremony means to you both. You may also want to include poems, readings, songs or a particular type of wedding ritual such as a sand ceremony. The choice is endless.

WHERE CAN YOU HAVE A FREEDOM CEREMONY

Freedom Ceremonies can be held in one of the Borough’s ten wonderful venues (see overleaf) which are currently licensed for marriage within the borough of Redcar and Cleveland. Your ceremony can be held anywhere within the venue, for example, outside in the beautiful grounds, stunning woodland area or a marquee, the choice is endless. The rooms designated for marriage at the venue would be where you will be required to repeat the declaratory and contracting words on the day, which will legally bind you in marriage.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You have the choice of three options for a Freedom Ceremony.

The choices are:

Option 1 The Declaratory & Contracting words are said first in a licensed room in the presence of your two witnesses and the two Registrars followed by a personalised ceremony in your chosen area at the same venue. Option 2 Your personalised ceremony will take place first in your chosen area (grounds, gardens etc) followed by the Declaratory & Contracting words in a separate licensed room in the presence of your 2 witnesses and the two Registrars. You will then re-join your guests for the conclusion of the ceremony and photographs. Option 3 You arrange with us to have a simple Register Office wedding in Redcar and Cleveland with two witnesses and the two Registrars, followed by your personalised ceremony within one of the venues (these do not have to be on the same day).

WHAT DO I DO TO ARRANGE A FREEDOM CEREMONY?

Firstly, you will need to contact the venue to provisionally book the date and time with them, and then as soon as possible contact us here at the Register Office on (01642) 444440 or complete the enclosed “Ceremony Provisional Booking Request” to provisionally book your Registrars and Celebrant. There is a non-refundable fee to pay to the Register Office (see Fees & Charges sheet) at this point. HOW MUCH DOES A FREEDOM CEREMONY COST?

Fees and charges vary depending on the day of the week you are having your ceremony (see Fees & Charges sheet).
