Dinner/ShowCAMBRIDGE The Theater

Company at Hubbard Hall pres-ents the opening night perfor-mance of the classic comedy “You Can’t Take It With You” at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 at Hubbard Hall.

The play was an American smash

hit comedy when it debuted in 1937. Written by the famous

team of Kaufmann and

Hart, it won the Pulitzer Prize and played more than 800 per-formances. The Depression-era story is a madcap romp that centers on an oddball family that lives in a New York City brownstone. Among the 20 char-acters that dance in and out are three generations of the Sycamore family – a motley group of artists, hobbyists and makers of candy, manifestos and fireworks – along with an iceman who delivers and never leaves, a Russian Grand Duchess who works as a diner waitress, a tyrannical ballet master and a trio of FBI agents.

The play is directed by Jeannine Haas. The opening night performance has the option of a dinner and play for $50.

“You Can’t Take It With You” will be performed at 8 p.m. on Nov. 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, and 24, and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 11, 18, and 25.

Tickets are $25 each. They can be purchased by calling 518-677-2495 or by visiting www.hub-bardhall.org.

u

Comedians per-forming include

Jodi Weiner, whose likable and cuddly persona can

defrost even the most difficult

audiences; Linda Belt, whose humor touches on the absurdi-ties of modern life; and Carole Montgomery, who has several TV credits to her name and has headlined clubs across the country

Julie Hathaway, a coach for the Cambridge Youth Cheerleaders, was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis in 2006. She has undergone several surger-ies for her condition, and is now beginning a new treatment that she hopes will have her in remission by the holiday sea-son.

Tickets for the show are $20 per person. To purchase, con-tact Bethany Witham at 518-681-0723 or Jess Griffith at 518-791-8144, or email [email protected]. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for a Chinese Auction. Advance tickets are suggested

Cabaret SALEM Fort Salem Theater’s

Fall Cabaret Series continues at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, as Manhattan cabaret artist Lynne Kerr stars in “MORE Songs My

Husband Wrote” in the theater’s

cabaret.Lynne Kerr

began her pro-fessional sing-

ing career as a college student on

the iconic New York City “Uncle Floyd Show.” Twelve years later, while working in Manhattan, she began singing lessons with a teacher who said “It’s a cinch to teach someone who already can sing.” That teacher was Jay Kerr, artistic director of Fort Salem. The lessons were so suc-cessful that the two got mar-ried.

While still working as an advertising executive, Lynne started performing at open mics at New York’s legendary Village Gate in Greenwich Village and Brandy’s on the upper East Side. She eventually found a cabaret home in midtown Manhattan at Judy’s, a club next to the Algonquin Hotel. When the club relocated, becom-ing Judy’s Chelsea, Lynne went with it and debuted a series of “Songs My Husband Wrote” shows.

Two years ago, Lynne took the Fort Salem stage for the release party of her CD “Songs My Husband Wrote.” This selection of recorded songs, around which book writer Al Budde crafted the tale of a Mississippi riverboat taking its final voy-age, spawned 2011’s mainstage hit “Senior Moments.” In her new cabaret show, Lynne sings some songs written for “Senior Moments,” melodies from “Significant Others,” and a few old favorites.

Tickets for the cabaret perfor-mance are $25, including $6 for coffee and dessert. Reservations are encouraged. To reserve, call 518-854-9200 or visit www.fortsa-lemtheater.com
