LOCAL NONPROFIT SEEKS DONATIONS TO FILL THE MAYFLOWER

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (May 8, 2012) Des Moines, Iowa founded nonprofit organization

FreeStore will be hosting their third annual Fill the Mayflower event in the Valley West Mall

parking lot this Friday and Saturday.

Fill the Mayflower is a drive collecting household items for families of domestic violence

victims looking to start a new life. FreeStore is hoping to fill a 1,611 cubic foot Mayflower truck

with gently used bed frames, tables, chairs, bookcases and dressers.

Lawrence Anderson, treasurer of FreeStore, says he looks forward to Fill the Mayflower each

year. He is inspired by the generosity of the Des Moines area and expects to receive more

donations this year than ever before. Although FreeStore accepts donations year round at their

Fourth and Des Moines St. location, Anderson believes Fill the Mayflower is so popular because

it makes it easy to free up space around the house and is tax deductible.

Donations will be accepted between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the southwest parking lot of Valley

West Mall located at 1551 Valley W Drive, West Des Moines, IA 50266.

This years Fill the Mayflower event is sponsored by FreeStore, Children and Families of Iowa,

Valley West Mall and Select Van and Storage. FreeStore supports children and families who

have escaped abusive situations. They provide donated furniture and household goods to clients

of domestic violence services and other agencies as these families begin new independent,

    productive lives in safe environments.
