As we move into 2018, we continue to

celebrate the music of France and its

connections with the rest of the world.

Our Spring season includes the centrepiece

of our French Connections year, when

Paris-Manchester 19 18 brings together

young musicians from the RNCM and Paris

Conservatoire for a series of wartime-inspired

performances in Manchester, London and Paris.

Our Strings and Chamber Music Festivals

also have a French f lavour, while Debussy

Perspectives, 1918-2018 takes an in-depth

look at the great French composer and

features arrangements of his work by composers

such as John Adams and Colin Matthews.

13-14 RNCM STRINGS FESTIVALJan Featuring a mixture of French

and British music by composers including Debussy, Poulenc and Saint-Saëns and a performance by the Hallé Orchestra and our students conducted by Sir Mark Elder.

29 Jan QUATUOR ÉBÈNE Manchester Chamber Concerts

Society Featuring music by Beethoven

and Bartók.

01-02 IN FOCUS: THEA MUSGRAVEFeb Composer Thea Musgrave, who

studied in Paris with Nadia Boulanger, joins us for this exploration of her work in her 90th year.

13 Feb BARRY DOUGLAS (piano) Featuring Mussorgsky’s

Pictures at an Exhibition and Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons.

14 Feb LUIS BUÑUEL’S UN CHIEN ANDALOU

1920s surrealist shorts with live score, including films by Buñuel/Dalí, Man Ray, René Clair and Hans Richter.

19 Feb PIXELS ENSEMBLE Manchester Chamber Concerts Society

Featuring music by Debussy, Mozart and Françaix.

01-14 PARIS-MANCHESTER 1918Mar Students from the RNCM and

Paris Conservatoire join forces for two weeks of performances in Manchester, London and Paris. The first event in the RNCM Concert Hall features music by Debussy, Elgar and Wagner.

09-11 RNCM CHAMBER MUSICMar FESTIVAL: UN VOYAGE DES

IMPRESSIONS Featuring Quatuor Voce, Trio

Apaches, Faustus and the Aronowitz Ensemble alongside RNCM students.

20-21 DEBUSSY PERSPECTIVES, Mar 1918-2018 Featuring Philippe Cassard,

the RNCM Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta and Bruno Heinen.
