EGR 100 – Composite Skateboard Design and Construction Freshmen EGR 100 students were challenged to design and construct a composite skateboard deck that would compete with commercially available wooden maple boards. Several material choices such as glass, kevlar, carbon fibers along with foam and balsa cores were provided. The cost, weight, shape and the feel /ride-ability were important factors in the design. Skaters demonstrate skateboards built by students in the EGR 100 Introduction to Engineering class. Sixteen groups of four students designed a skateboard deck using composite materials and techniques normally associated with the aerospace industry. The boards had to meet certain design goals and the students were evaluated on the cost of their design as December 08, 2003
