Ireland Is Still Supporting Science

O 4C had €5.4m in new awards in 2011.

O 4C funding income for the coming academic year will be higher than last year.

O 4C recently began participation in three new European FP7 projects.

O UCC new award income from European Union (EU) sources has increased by over 200% in two years.

O UCC research income from non-exchequer sources in 2010/2011 increased 81% on the previous year.

O SFI Research Centres Programme 2012

O Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) will issue a Call for Proposals in 2012 under the auspices of a new ‘SFI Research Centres’ Programme.

O Funding for up to 6 years

O SFI anticipates offering funding of between €1m and €5m per annum.

O Government funding programs from €5k “vouchers” to €30m centres.

EMC HAS expanded research work at its Irish operations this week and announced University College Cork as its anchor partner for programmes looking at cloud computing and data management.
