Make our music harmonious. Make us one in You. Amen Jesus prayed that His disciples would live in unity. In His last hours on the earth, this was foremost in His thoughts ( John 17). His greatest desire was that His individual disciples would function as “one”, that they would get along and work together and partner together for the single interest of God’s glory. Getting along is a key to productivity and fruitfulness. Kingdom outsiders would look at true disciples and say, “Faith must be real because it works. They love each other. I want that!” David understood this a thousand years earlier when wrote of the same idea. Being a musician, he called it “harmony.” Harmony, he says, is the key to anointing. He called it “wonderful” and “pleasant” and “refreshing.” Dear Parents, Students and Friends, Today, Friday March 18, Marian Catholic College celebrated Harmony Day (officially 21 March). It is without a doubt a major event at Mari- an! This year we celebrated 34 different nationalities amongst our community and our assembly was a joyous occasion at which students, staff, parents, family and friends came together to share in our ceremony. Besides the flags being presented we also had a didgeridoo be- ing played at our aboriginal Welcome to Country, which was said in Wiradjuri language. We had Polynesian dancing from our male and female students and traditional dancing from our Indian students. Traditional foods from around the world were had in great quantity during lunch break, henna painting, a tug-o-war and music from our talented students keep us entertained. We even had a Harmony Day Flash Mob Dance and a Zorba the Greek back to class bell at the end of it! The greatest emotion that we all experienced was that of joy as togeth- er as one large group we experience a true feeling of the 2016 Harmony Day Theme, “Everyone Belongs”. The experience the feeling of this theme was a wonderful way to celebrate. My thanks to everyone who did something special to contribute to the day, with a special thanks to our student leadership from all cultural groups, Mrs Lole, Mrs Hone and Mrs Segrave. Well Done Marian!!! Congratulations and best wishes to Year 11 student, Megan Beecher. After Megan’s overall win in the local section of the Lions Youth of the Year competition, Megan Beecher progressed to the Zone final on Saturday. It was a whole day event where she competed against the surrounding winners such as Leeton, Narrandera, West Wyalong and Coleambally Megan won both sections and was awarded overall winner of the day. There is no doubt that this has been an outstanding effort by Megan and we wish her the very best of luck as she progresses onto the next stage which is the Regional final in Dubbo. Public speaking is witnessing great success here at Marian at the moment and the College Public Speaking Club will kick off in term 2 for any students hoping to follow in Megan’s footsteps. My thanks to Mr Neville who is supporting this area of Marian Catholic College student development. On Wednesday 23 March, the College will be holding our Easter Mass at 10am in the Hall. The greatest event in the history of humanity is he moment God (the Son of God, Jesus) took flesh and became one of us and lived among us, shared our life, our joys, pains, difficulties and challenges. To prove to us how much he loves us he freely accepted the cross and died for us so that we might be saved and enter into eternal life with Him in heaven at the end. Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday is a huge foundation of our faith and that’s why the Easter celebration is always unique, exciting and joyful. Let us spend time with Jesus in this holiest of the weeks in our lives as Christians beginning with the Palm Sunday this weekend and on to its culmination with the Mass of the Lord’s supper on Holy Thursday, the Passion and death of Jesus on Good Friday, Holy Saturday Vigil Mass and the Easter Sunday celebration. As we immerse ourselves in these holy events of our redemption, may Jesus renew us and strengthen us with the power of his resurrection, Amen.

Year 10 Science Smart Skills This week Year 10 students participated in a Smart Skills workshop in Marramarra, our open learning space, to design some bridge prototypes. This was a follow up activity to facilitate participation of all the Year 10 students, after some selected students had the opportunity to participate in the Questacon workshop last week. Students had to meet the specific requirements in designing the prototypes for their bridges. Students had to think instantly and go through refining their designs to make their bridges more efficient. Students had great engagement and input and some of the prototypes were able to hold staggering amount of mass, much higher than the expected level.

PI DAY CELEBRATION
The College celebrated Pi (π) Day last Monday, 14th of March. There were different activities and competitions in all the Mathematics classes that. There was the bake a cake/cupcake contest for the culinary enthusiasts where the students’ creativity in deco-rating the pie cakes/cupcakes was the main criteria in judging. There was also a pi song/poem contest for any student who liked to compose a song/poem about the im-portance of pi.

Payments can be made by: credit card, cash or cheque. Please do not send in a blank cheque with your child as we are unable to process them. If you wish to pay by cheque I am able to fit your child out with their uniform and send home an invoice with the correct amount owing. As part of the overall program of support offered to Year 11 students in this vital Preliminary year, the College is inviting you and your son/daughter to attend a Preliminary Support Evening on Wednesday 23
rd, March, 2016. The evening
will begin at 7pm in the Hall.
The evening will involve three sessions aimed at maximising preparation with a growth mindset, managing stress and skills to write what you want to say and improve your written exam responses.
Each session will be approximately 20 minutes or less. If there are specific concerns that still have not been addressed, there will be the opportunity for questions at the end. It is expected that all will attend and tea and coffee will be supplied.
We look forward to seeing you all there.

Year 11 Pastoral Coordinator
After weeks of training, a select group of girls from Marian Catholic College set out to join the NRL League Tag competition at Jubilee Oval. Through the round games we competed against and beat Narrandera and Coleambally, with stand outs being the Tuiaki sisters Lenley and Louisa who demonstrated excellent skill and knowledge of the game. As the day progressed and more motivation was needed, Teneeka Andreazza and Lauren Bertolin stepped up to give a boost that the girls needed. We ended the day against Hay in a Grand Final. There were two Grand Finals and only 2 of those 4 teams could go through to represent our area in Wagga, unfortunately we went down to Hay by 2 tries. Considering only a small amount of the team actually plays League Tag competitively, we were a very strong side and have a lot to be proud of, not only in our skill but our sportsmanship. The NRL coordinators decided to give 2 awards for best on ground in terms of outstanding sportsmanship and fair play, one of those went to our own Teneeka Andreazza. Some of these girls along with some of our senior League Taggers will play in the Fafita Cup on the 31st March, versing Wade High School and 7th April, Griffith High School. Both games at 5pm at EW Moore Oval. Following our game there will be a Junior and Senior Rugby League Game. We hope to get supporters down there to cheer our College on. Nadine Scarfone

Nelson Mandela said “That education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” today at our school we had the opportunity to acknowledge HARMONY DAY and represent and celebrate our cultural heritage and our differences with pride, in peace and without fear or reprisal.
Our celebrations will continue into next week when the COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM will be co~ hosting a premiere
night for the doco- film “He Named Me Malala” on Monday night.
Social justice, access & equality are high on the agenda for the COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM. The story of Malala and her plight for children throughout the world; especially girls to be able to access education in a safe environment is something that we feel passionate about. More often than not the alternative is for these girls to be forced to become a child bride.
The story of Malala proves that with courage, determination and self belief anything is possible. Malala had a dream and against all odds she continues to chase that dream and make the world a better place for 1000s of girls throughout the world.
Malala was not the only person to have a dream; Martin Luther King had a dream that the world would acknowledge that all men were created equal and John Lennon hoped that we would also join him and his dream that the world would live as one
We encourage and hope that you will join us on Monday night at 6:15pm at the Griffith City Cinema and support the COMMUNTIY ACTION TEAM in their acknowledgement and support of the work that the “Malala Fund” is doing; and help make those dreams become a reality.
